While hockey/the NHL is more internationalized in terms of players/people employed from multiple countries, over the years the gap/competition between countries playing basketball/talent and the like vs. USA talent has really narrowed. In an international competition I'd take U.S. talent still, but two summer Olympics ago we witnessed them not winning a gold medal, U.S. teams no longer demolish other countries every game with ease, etc. You see where I'm getting at. I personally think hockey is more exciting to watch and will pick watching a hockey game 99 times out of 100 if I don't have an emotional investment in the teams playing, but I've seen more basketball games in my life that I can probably count that I had interest in the outcome, when I was in high school, college, or going to local college games when I was young, etc. I also never grew up playing hockey, ice or roller, and growing up as a kid I played basketball and baseball, and played pick-up basketball off/on in college before I blew out my ACL and pretty much retired me from playing any contact sports, serious or not. While I don't think a basketball game is as appealing to watch when I have no emotional interest in the game, I certainly enjoyed playing it when I did more often than not, and I respect the talent it takes to play the game at the highest levels. You can spin it whatever way you want on where the game(s) were developed and what sport is better, but you and your friend already have your biases and trying to justify one being better over the other is probably not going to change either of your opinions.

Howard hasn't played as good as in the beginning of his season, but it's not entirely on him. He's having some pretty crappy luck with deflections/bounces, defense isn't as good, etc. Not saying these are excuses, just factors that also play in to him struggling as well. I'd like to see Osgood play a bit more as well but it's nothing really to sound alarms off with right now. Unless I see or read differently, Howard is still the starter at present time. Though I highly doubt we're in a situation thankfully where he's play 20+ games straight like last season.

And you, somebody not in a position in power or decision making on here, added to the clutter without needing to do so. It was a strong disagreement between the two of us that did not require having anybody else butting in. It wasn't your fight, we were going to eventually come to an understanding of each other, which we did and it didn't require outside help from people who aren't mods/decision makers or being a smart-allec telling us to stop. Who said anything about me wanting to be a moderator? I'll repeat to you, there is another appropriate time and place to bag on Chris Osgood. This is not the appropriate time and place. Don't act so stupid and you won't get such a response. I know you cannot be this braindead about things on a consistent basis.

And our problem with you is that you are pissing on the party on something that has barely been accomplished in the NHL, just by 10 people now, and you do not seem to get this whatsoever. Everybody gets that one of the goals he gave up was junky. Osgood said so as well. Oh, and he made 45+ saves matching a career high and goalies typically aren't depended on, and shouldn't be depended on to make that many saves in a game. So I'd say it was an amazing performance. Now I will repeat to you. 400 wins. Very few people have accomplished this. Regardless of how Osgood did this, it is a helluva accomplishment. This thread should only be about giving him kudos for getting to 400 wins. Not about last year's junky record, not about soft goals he gave up in the playoffs in the late 90s, not about is he possibly going to be inconsistent again this year. 400 wins celebrating ONLY. I don't really like the guy on the ice but if he recognized that he had or has a problem and is getting help for it, more power to him, especially if he's not being forced kicking and screaming to do so.

Fair enough on the Detroit-Chicago comparison to this situation as well. The only thing I'd say to that is that it's only really between Wings and Blackhawks fans, and the beef with Crosby/2 Winter Classics etc. is that probably a fair amount of people/fans, not just Wings fans, are tired of hearing about him. Not trying to justify one deal being better than the other, just another point of view pretty much, I'm pretty much in agreement with you on the hypocritical aspect. I don't ask for much, basically just don't be a d**k or a whiney ass off the ice to where you draw attention to yourself or make me lose respect for you. Now, Crosby already has the microscope on him for better/worse which makes it difficult, but him being a sour brat at times does not help. Avery is another example for just being a dumb a** half the time off the ice. Tootoo for questionable hits in the past, etc. I don't think that's asking for much and I'm not suggesting people need to act like royal princes. Dead whistle or off-ice stuff matter to me to a decent degree and while I definitely respect Crosby's game, the off ice stuff he needs working at (and I believe he is getting better at it in general), and stuff like that is a big reason why I'm a little bent on him and Pitt playing two Winter Classics already so soon.
