If it is debatable to great lengths, it should not be up there. I pretty much always stick up for Osgood when fans in here act like morons towards him, but fair or not, the perceived standards of the Wings retiring jersey numbers is pretty high. It might be one of those numbers that isn't hanging up high, but more/less not worn as a general rule, or at least for a long time.

Unless the injury bug goes nuts on the Wings again, I don't see much need to make any huge deals. Nobody's mentioning the solid play overall of our lower d-man, that might discourage a big trade as well (which is a good thing). No real big complaints about Salei and Ericsson has been very good since coming back from injury, and Kindl overall showed good stuff earlier in the season. Maybe make a move for Hudler if he just keeps underperforming close to the deadline. Modano has underperformed some but I think he was getting better slowly/surely before his injury. And it's not like he was counted on to be the main go-to-guy. The Wings depth is still fairly solid even with him injured and getting him back hopefully towards the end of the season is a bonus.

Seriously. Just admit that you want to have Carey Price's children.

That's what people like you and ben_umsc aren't getting or purposefully ignoring. We get that Osgood is close to retiring. Everybody gets that he is currently the back up goalie. Nobody is kissing his rear end. But since you all have such an extreme view of him the opposite way, you all act like a'holes and think that just because other people don't think he is playing subpar, we're all Osgood slappies. I will repeat, and get it through your think skull, that it has nothing to do with us or fans thinking Osgood will revert to demi-god form or that he'll play like the 2008 playoffs. That is the last thing this thread it is about. It is about knowing your place in an organization and paying respect to people who have been in this organziation longer than you, have accomplished more than you, and know how to go through the NHL grind and stress. Howard has done that. Osgood has done that. Larsson has not done that, hence him coming off like an a'hole. Got it?
-
I'm busy counting how many time people have told you to wake up and realize what Larsson did was incredibly stupid. It's definitely been more than two.
-
They are not true, they are subjective to each individual person. Even you. And even Larsson. He owes Osgood and Howard and other goalies the respect they deserve of knowing how to play goalie in the best league of them all and having experience to deal with issues on and off the ice, regardless of how good or bad they might be. Not a hard thing to do. I can't comment on the AHL careers accurately, but Howard has been through the NHL grind so far, Larsson has not, fair or not. It's one thing to be confident and cocky, it's another to be an arrogant pr**k. Larsson is being an arrogant pr**k and throwing the blame card around and is acting like life isn't fair because I didn't get picked first in gym class.
-
Again, he handled the question terribly. It makes him come off like an arrogant pr**k. Again, regardless of what YOU or he thinks of Osgood or Howard, you have to earn the right to disrespect somebody on a team like that. And he hasn't even played one millisecond in the NHL. He has no clue what it is like to go through the grind. Not like Howard has for 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 seasons, and definitely not like Osgood has for as long as his career. There is confidence and cockiness, and there is being an arrogant pr**k. If this translation is accurate, Larsson is being an arrogant pr**k. If you haven't played in this league or have very limited experience, you better know your place and respect people who have been through this league and know how to survive the grind, whether they are a superstar, fringe 4th liner, or backup goalie. If I were Howard or Osgood or a teammmate and I hear a similar guy in the system saying stuff like this who hasn't been through the rigors, I'd punch his face out for being an idiot.
-
Regardless of what YOU or Larsson thinks of Osgood or whether somebody is close to retiring, you do not disrespect somebody who has been through the ringer plenty. You have to earn the right to disrespect somebody on a team, and Larsson hasn't earned s**t yet. He hasn't even come close to an inkling of disrespecting Jimmy Howard, and Howard's only played 1 1/2 full seasons of hockey.
-
Sour grapes just a bit. I'm all for confidence or cockiness saying that you are going to break somebody's win record or shutouts in a season, something along that lines, but to basically call out people as garbage who are still playing on that team and know what it takes to win and have established themselves successfully in the best of best in competition is beyond idiotic.
-
I can typically deal with or tolerate somebody accidentally high sticking somebody 100 feet away from the game flow or whatever and the referee not seeing it, having to blow the whistle for a play dead because you can't see the puck anymore and then it crosses the goal line 2 seconds after the whistle we've seen that happen plenty in the past, etc. Can't have eyes in the back of your head or X-ray vision. To not call something so blatant and on purpose though is absurd. I'm not going to call favortism towards certain players or teams like some do on here (though I get that angle/understand it), but it's just another example how horrible the consistency is with officating in this league. I don't like Coach Crawford that much but I'd be going apes**t like him as well if that happened to my team.

An honest mistake with nothing meant by it. In other news, it is snowing somewhere in the world, somebody in the state of Wyoming is eating Baked Lays Potato Chips, and somebody in Mexico City picked at a hangnail.

Apples and oranges. Hudler's new on the point, yes, but he is getting on thinner ice every game he does little or nothing out there, even with not a 100% completely healtht roster. And if he's been productive on the point so far, Jason Williams' productivity on the point blows Hudler's out the water. The excuses for him are running out, and fast.
-
I'd pay good money to see an attempt like this. I'm in full agreement with you on the intent to blow stuff when a whistle hasn't been blown yet after it crosses the goal line, but I can't really fault the refs when an example like what last night happened. The ref has to blow the whistle dead at some point, just sucked that it happened when the puck squirted loose and in after he eventually did blow the whistle. I don't particularly like it but under the current context it's hard to find fault with officials for this, even though they are a joke overall. For everybody else (EDIT: the people who are pumping their chests trying to tell each other off, you know who you are in here), f**king get over yourselves for crying out loud. Nobody gives a s**t who was right or who was wrong if you guessed the game outcome correctly or not to the 2000th power.
-
Dude is just struggling. His power play gaffe last night was just terrible. I still think it's too early/knee-jerkish to consider making a move in terms of management making a roster move (not talking about coach/game-time roster decisions here), but he's just not getting better right now. If Modano was healthy, I'd really strongly consider scratching him again a few games. Heck, I might consider doing that at present roster in a 4th line rotation. He's got to be on thin ice.
-
The intent to blow the whistle rule absolutely drives me nuts if a goal is scored and a ref doesn't stop the play in time, but there was no such thing last night in the deal that would've made it 2-0 early. If the official blows the whistle in time before a puck crosses the goal line that he loses sight of like what happened last night, cool. I don't like it, but the play is immediately dead after that whistle and I can deal with that. No beef with the referees regarding that specifically. I just think the Wings ran out of gas physically and mentally after travel and a lot of games in such a short amount of time. Not trying to justify that as an excuse, more along the lines of just stating the obvious or that it was a factor in the game. Given the results of the three game West Coast trip and the game immediately before that and after last night, I'll take a 4-1-1 record all day for those 6 games. 9 out of 12 points is good output.

If the URL is accurate, there are only 6 teams without 3rd jerseys, Detroit being one of them. http://www.nhluniforms.com/2010-11.html I typically like 3rd jerseys and the concept of them, and I generally do not like plain looking jerseys (which I do consider the Wings jersey), but their logo/coloring/concept just feels right with a simplistic look. I'm not going to say the jersey or logo or look is better than other jerseys, just the current concept and jersey look fit appropriately. Can't really explain why. Not any need to tinker with it.

It just further shows how stupid it is that you get rewarded for losing in overtime. I personally like the overtime format, I like shootouts. I can easily be fine with going back to win-loss-tie format but currently overtime and shootout itself isn't the problem. If you don't like them, cool, there's plenty of people in here who have disliked how overtime and the shootout is setup and they have shown very legitmate reasons why. Not here to argue that. My main beef is the point system. It's so stupid you get rewarded for losing. Zero points for a loss at any point in a game, no questions asked. Thay way you weed out the teams that just get into the playoffs and probably don't deserve to be there just because they had to rely more on skills/shootouts to get by.
