Water!!! Cannonball or Canopener

Not that long thankfully. The person below me thinks this is funny.

That's still taking it too far. And it is childish and juvenile. Look, pretty much everybody in here thinks O'Hallaran is an incompetent referee and thinks that NHL officiating is absurdly inconsistent, myself included. But these people are humans too off the ice/playing surface, if you take your love/hate relationship to these levels to where you can get in trouble or arrested or whatever, you have problems.
-
All teams are going to have their a'hole fans. Here and everywhere else. Not too shocked about the listing in general. We're pretty hated because we are routinely successful making postseasons. Pittsburgh right now partially because of recent success and partially because of fans absolutely sick and tired about hearing about you know who 24-7-365. As for the Wings buying Cups, that's obviously fans of other teams being misinformed. Those people will almost always hate so it's a waste of time for me to get in a pissing match with them. Bascially all you can say is we've still been successful in the Cap era, and hopefully that makes them look like idiots and they be quiet.

Because EA Sports world doesn't revolve around the Red Wings unlike in here, they got to consider all good players from all teams. Doesn't matter to me if the Blackhawks make a cover twice in a row, I'm not getting hot and bothered by it. Not worried about getting shuned or lack of respect or whatever you want to say.

Nicely stated. If you (not you specifically but you get my drift) want to be Red Wings fan vs. the world and everybody else is the enemy, cool, plenty of people are like that regardless of team/allegiance. If you go that route though don't act shocked when you find out that some people might like multiple teams/players.

That got me thinking. The NCAA Championships were played in Ford Field so it is obviously doable from a functional standpoint. If we are just focusing on that... Cowboys stadium is in Arlington, roughly a 15 mile drive from Dallas without traffic. Stadium is ridculously big with giant TVs actually hanging from the ceiling. I'll be going there on Labor Day weekend as my college actually opens up their football season there with a "neutral site" game. Cowboys Stadium has already hosted a basketball tourney (I believe the Big 12 basketball tournament). Not sure of the exact success of it in terms of attendance but the point is the functionality of it worked in terms of hosting an event with a smaller playing surface in a big stadium. Phoenix Coyotes could play at University of Phoenix stadium (Arizona Cardinals/Fiesta Bowl is played there) literally across the street from Jobing.com arena. I don't think any other NHL markets have large indoor stadiums that NFL teams play in, at least in the South. Probably just a gimmick idea but doable nonetheless.

Hell yeah, cause that's where the Yip Yips are usually. The person below me wants to act like a grown up and watch TV and a fort built with boxes.

I can't speak for everybody, but probably highly untrue. The amount of attention that Pitt/you know who gets is pretty absurd, much more absurd when people in here often went nuts over and over again on ESPN/ABC frothing at the mouth every time at Peter Forseberg during his prime years, whether it was fair/justified or not. This is never going to change despite you trying to call people out on it every time. Would a part of me be thrilled if the Wings went to another outdoor game? Well duh, yeah b/c I'm a Wings fan, but I'm not an idiot and would realize that it would be totally unfair to just about all the other teams who haven't played in one yet. Yes, I get that the NHL is in it for ratings. Well, sometimes you also got to do what is "right". I don't really follow the NBA but I think it's a safe guess that plenty of people who follow the NBA plenty are absolutely sick and tired of Lebron James talk right now. I certainly am That's the same way with NHL fans/you know who. And getting new fans to just focus on you know who/one team just wears itself out. Focus on other star players/good teams as well. There's only so many new fans you can get from just one player/team focus. As for the game itself if I do watch it it is going to be muted because if I play a drinking game and heard you know who's name that day, I'd probably die from over shots. The game will either be muted or I'm watching college football all day since I enjoy that sport and January 1st is arguably the biggest day in college football (in terms of bowl games/the amount of them).

Pretty much any player known to man tests the free agency market at some point in their careers anyway. Again, if you don't want Modano on the team, cool, but this is nothing but paranoia from fans in here. Modano's status is probably going to have little/no impact on the futures and length of Helm and Abdelkader's careers in Detroit, so it is pointless to obsessively worry about it, or even just worry about it. The two of them are probably smart enough to figure out that this is a business as well and I highly doubt they feel slighten when they have been given word and guarantees that they will be back and Modano isn't going to be the reason of them not being in the lineup.

Remembering Derian Hatcher's tenure with Detroit
SouthernWingsFan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Hatcher didn't ride s**t for coattails in his prime, sorry. He was damned good. He was always slow as molasses, but he was still one of the best stay at home defensemen at the time, and quite the good hitter. As for the ACL injury, it's all going to be speculation from all of us. Nobody here will completely know if he was ready to return from injury, rushed back, or whatever. My best guess is that everybody responds to ACL surgery differently. If you want to use Franzen as a recent example, of course it is probably a safe bet to say Franzen has responded well/better than Hatcher's situation. I personally had reconstructive surgery on a torn ACL and MCL over 6 years ago tearing my knee up playing pick-up basketball in college. While the knee doesn't prohibit me from doing anything normal or overly strenuous in life now - I run/jog just about every day, sometimes play softball, etc. - my knee will never feel 100% healthy again to where I feel like I can be comfortable in playing anything where contact is more than usual (in my case basketball) or sprinting or whatever. Granted I was no superstar when I played basketball a decent bit in college, but I always felt I could keep up and contribute in games at times with star athletes or people who played in high school/college or whatever. I wouldn't be able to do that anymore now. Even after a jog it's not unusual for me to limp for a few minutes because my bad knee is a bit more worn out than the rest of my body. So hopefully from these three examples/people you can take that everybody responds to this type of injury differently. I was thrilled to death to get Hatcher, and even after his injury I still wish the Wings could've kept him if the money situation/cap didn't start taking effect when it did. Hatcher's season here was obviously disappointing/unfortunate, but the disdain for him here often goes way off the deep end because I think a lot of people don't fully realize that most times it is a giant pain in the rear to come back from a torn ACL and that reactions to it vary from person to person. If you are still looking for the blame game after all this since Hatcher wasn't quite up to snuff, it should go more towards coaching staff/personnel I think instead of Hatcher I think - because of course Hatcher's going to want to play after being out for so long. -
I highly doubt people are going to get on other's cases if those people don't want Modano. If you don't want him, cool. I'd like him but I'm certainly not going to lose sleep if he's not a Red Wing. Nobody here is treating him like the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's more along the lines, and incredibly aggravating, that some seem to still not get that Helm and Abdlekader are going to be with the team regardless, and are just worrying way too much about them possibly not being re-signed (when they already are) or stuff that nobody can predict years and years down the road. People need to be more patient and this is a situation that really isn't worth reading more into; there is nothing more to read into.
-
Oh I know what he meant, and it's definitely possible, but slim/none that it will happen probably. It's more crazy talk/paranoid thinking about that and it really isn't worth worrying about.
-
Where did I say or imply that people aren't entitled to an opinion? Not my fault if you don't like it.
-
You don't know this. Nobody does. This is what, 3, 4, 5 years down the road? Helm's probably not going to care as badly as you are trying to imply. You are being too paranoid.
-
When they are going to be re-signed regardless, no it isn't.
-
I'm pretty sure Helm and Abdelkader realize that this is the nature of business sometimes and I highly doubt they feel like they are being shunned and probably realize the value that Modano can bring to the team if he his signed. They probably aren't going to care that badly down the line 4 or 5 years from now and think, "You know what, that bastard for not signing us before Modano when we're going to eventually be re-signed anyway." Once again, Modano isn't sabatoging the Wings and once again, this is just something that fans in here are being too paranoid about and trying to make too much of a big deal out of.
