When I need salt to be poured on an open wound, I'm going to give you a call.

Gotcha, understand where you're coming from now. And as for Kariya coming here, I wouldn't mind seeing it happen and the Wings would give him a decent shot at winning his first Cup before he soon retires, would probably peg him for a similar role as what is being guessed for Modano possibly coming here (3rd line/some PP time), but I would think he'd have to command more money and I wouldn't think the Wings would have the Cap space.
-
Of course. Your average scrub or 3rd liner is probably not going to do what Kariya did in that sequence when Kariya was still a star player. He did what he had to do after he got leveled, and he did it pretty damned good. Of course he neeeded to keep his head up, but he deserves plenty kudos and more for stepping up immediately afterwards when plenty of people would've continued to be out cold/injured in all likelihood. You aren't giving him enough credit, or not implying it.

Give me a f**king break. It takes a whole lot of cojones to come back from a hit like that so quickly from one of the best open ice hitters of all time, and score as clutch of a goal as it gets.
-
It's because he's trying to figure out if it is worth the grind to go through another season or two of wear/tear when he's already accomplished a good bit in his career, or whether he wants to move onto the next phase of his life. That's not a decision you can make overnight, and sometimes not in a week or a month. Not to difficult to figure out. And to say that Modano isn't a solid athlete or shun his accomplishments is incredibly naive.
-
Thanks. It's just irritating to have to repeat the same stuff over and over again in terms of player personnel regarding this situation and that people in here are making Modano out to be a bad guy because he hasn't decided anything yet. This is business. Modano #1 mindset should be for himself and family, not for the best interests of the Red Wings or any other team. If they feel he is taking too long to decide, they'll move on without him. Modano is doing nothing shady or inconsiderate to the Red Wings, Minnesota, or San Jose. All this is is fans just not being patient enough and trying to make things bigger than they need to be. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's not a black and white decision. You've won a championship, you've been one of the better/best players to play the game during your prime, you've had an accomplished career without much else to prove. While you probably still have some gas left in the tank, it's going to be time to hang them up sooner than later and you eventually want to move onto other things in life both personally and business wise. It's not as easy just to say "I want to play because ZOMG IT'S THE RED WINGS!" And for the millionth time, there has been absolutely no indication that Modano's status affects the stauts of Helm or Abdelkader. Modano is not holding anything up in terms of player personnel in terms of a threat of anybody not leaving/not signing. From minute one, it has been stated that Modano is not going to kick Helm or Abdelkader to the curb, and that hasn't changed presently. Modano will make a decision in time when it is most comfortable for him. And it is nothing, absolutely not even close, to the drama queen decision of retirement of another accomplished professional last year in Brett Favre (and possibly this year as well).

Yep, 'tis them.
-
If you don't want Modano, cool. But he's not preventing anything else from happening this off-season. There's no other business to really attend to with player personnel that Modano is holding up. This is the main point, nicely stated.

Nope, never seen it in my life and don't know what it's about. The person below me likes to drum on stuff for no apparent reason.

The Red Wings probably aren't going to make any other major re-signings, Modano's status isn't changing anything regarding Abdelkader and Helm re-signing here, Modano isn't holding anything up. If he signs, great improvement to the team. If not, oh well and the roster is still solid. You may not want him on the team which is perfectly fine, but no need to make him out to be the bad guy in the situation when he clearly isn't.

Nothing in this world really surprises me anymore and it wouldn't shock me if conspiracy might play a part, but I'm not wasting my time trying to find a conspiracy. It's largely incompentency of officials as well as rules that aren't clearly black/white.

It's not like anything has changed. If you want to see if Modano is here or not that's one thing, but nothing has changed in regards to Abdelkader and Helm. There is absolutely zero indiciation that they will not be Red Wings next season. And veterans trying to figure out if they are going to hang 'em up in any sport taking some time to figure it out isn't anything new. This is absolutely nothing compared to some drama queen decisions of retirement/free agency (i.e. Lebron James, Brett Favre). Not even close.

http://www.freep.com/article/20100720/SPORTS05/7200369/1053/Sports05/Mike-Modano-Ill-decide-on-future-next-month Straight from Modano himself...he'll decide his future over the next few weeks/EDIT - not before August 5th at the latest. Article states that decision makers are waiting on Holland's EDIT - Modano's - sorry, not fully awake yet at the time decision and that's holding up Helm/Abdelkader contract's a bit, but that neither will be ignored/moved/traded or whatever for Modano. So no worries regarding that, nothing on their statuses have changed whatsoever in terms of worry or odds of playing somewhere else.

You don't need passion to play football at the highest levels? Really? I mean really? You may think hockey is a better sport than football. Cool. That's fine. I don't like watching some sports like baseball or soccer as much as I enjoy watching hockey and football. Soccer requires ridiculous conditioning to play at a high level running around for 90+ minutes straight, and baseball is a grind for 160+ games in hot weather. I may not fully like those sports but I respect the wear/tear and grind that it takes to play those games if you want to be fully committed to it. Just like football, an intense off-season/in-season grind of weight training, hitting, and thinking nearly an entire year. But you need passion to play any sport or do your job to the best of your ability, regardless of the sport or career. To say you don't need passion in football or any profession to do well in it is plain idiotic, no matter how much you might not like a sport/job.

Natural. Body builders scare me, and I've always been more of a cardio person vs. heavy weightlifting. Never been a big guy to begin with. Getting hit by bamboo on the chest or on the back.

Yeah, pretty much, and just another day ain't all that bad down here. Could be a helluva lot worse and life is good. The person below me thinks it is funny that the Count from Sesame Street is the only person/being that can invoke thunder and lightning inside a building.

Fans of a team have to start somewhere. Doesn't make you or our fans any better than theirs. We'll see if they stick in a few years. If/when Detroit starts to get inconsistent, it'd be interesting to see if some Wings fans stay par like now. And it's slim/none that many teams will win 3 cups in 10 years. K... You realize that by booing them and being the first to provoke and start stuff, you are encouraging conflict and a fight even if that wasn't your intention? And you're against bar fights you said?
