Work, exercise, house and yard chores, errands, doing other hobbies. While I definitely long for September and October for football and hockey to resume again, I'm too busy to constantly worry or be sour or have withdrawals about stuff like this.

It's just the way it is in a lot of places that's not in the North or not in a typically colder climate. That's not to say hockey doesn't belong countrywide. Of course there will be spots that aren't as popular as Michigan, Minnesota, New England, whatever...there are pockets here and there where there is decent establishment. Example...I live about 75 minutes away from Biloxi (Southern Mississippi area) and they've had minor league hockey franchises year in and year out since the mid-90s I believe. However, it's not going to be the main dish for plenty of people where we are from. That's not bad, it's not stupid, it's just the way it is. You like hockey a lot, I like hockey a lot, it can be just left at that and all's good still.

Adios partner. In all seriousness I hope he gets some more playing time there and he'll somehow get into a more established role. He had one here and did really well for himself his first few seasons here, but tailed off and didn't really improve whatsoever overall. Best of luck to him with the Maple Leafs.

After I posted this I realized I left more detail out, and you pretty much caught it. Would Chelios not being there help Quincey's chances? Possibly, as it would've been one less d-man for Qunicey to deal with. However, he didn't play better than either Meech or Chelios when it counted most, whether it was fair or not, and Meech was already in the Wings immediate future plans, and perhaps somewhat long-term plans, so if staying in Detroit was #1 priority, Quincey failed to do so, and was expendable per se. Sucks that we couldn't have gotten anything from him, but still the onus is more on Quincey, not management or Chelios.

Quincey had every opportunity to make the Detroit roster if he wanted to. If his ultimate goal was to stay with the Red Wings, he blew it. He didn't even beat out Derek Meech for a 7th or 8th defensive spot or whatever. Chris Chelios re-signing had little/no impact on Kyle Quincey. More power to Quincey for excelling in Los Angeles/Denver.
