Holland thinking of re-signing Kirk Maltby
SouthernWingsFan replied to uk_redwing's topic in General
I wouldn't sweat it too much. If the above happens, he'd probably play for peanuts/under a million given the stage of his career. I highly doubt if Maltby re-signs, it doesn't have any effect on money to possibly re-sign Lilja. -
I agree that Maltby is all but done. But I highly doubt if Maltby gets re-signed, it has any impact on Lilja's status whatsoever since Maltby would probably sign for peanuts (if he did). Add to that that one source from the agents says no deal was offered whatsoever, and another source quoting Holland saying that he did offer Lilja a contract and Lilja rejected, there's multiple sources that conflict. Lilja might have made up his mind right at the end of the season to want a more expanded role, whether it be with Detroit or elsewhere. That's his decision and more power to him to figure that out if that's the case. That's why it's a bit silly or at least pre-mautre to get all up in arms about management on this one.
-
Lilja could have been looking at opportunities elsewhere from the start. It's too early to blame management right now. EDIT: And for the record, I will jump through my computer and strangle anybody who labels me a management or Holland slappy. I'll be disappointed if Lilja goes. It irritates the s**t out of me though to basically claim Holland the anti-Christ pre-maturely (or anybody for that matter given the proper sitaution) because of player bias or without knowing the entire context of the situation

Abdelkader useless? Seriously? I mean really???? No, he hasn't lost anything. EDIT: You are just showing a flair for the overdramatic right now. Can definitely show displeasure for possibly not re-signing Lilja but he hasn't lost squat and has always been one of the best GMs in the league - evidenced many times by sources across the NHL, not just Red Wing homer fans. ^ THIS. Look, I want to re-sign Lilja like pretty much everybody else in here. But the possible re-signing of Maltby (and whose to say it isn't just graffiti on the wall to be nice to him because he's played with the Wings for so long - I really don't think he'll be re-signed) and the possible departure of Lilja are completely independent on each other, they aren't correlated/related in any way, shape, or form. EDIT: And it is possible that Lilja wanted to look for another opportunity elsewhere outside of Detroit initially from minute one. That'd be Lilja's deal, not Holland's. There are conflicting stories here between his agent and Holland or faulty reporting of the happenings, so it is pre-mature to yell out "MANGAMENT STINKS THE BIG ONE HERE XO#@$#@T^#%YRE111353454!!!!!!" 2nd EDIT: Just saw from another source that there is a good chance that Maltby will be re-signed, so I stand corrected on that specific piece above.

It's Official: Happy Hudler is Back

Note when his post was, and when the article with the possible line combinations are. One month apart. Not really all that fair to rip him to shreds when the article/lines were written after the fact, and well after his post, and when there was absolutely no hint of whether Datsyuk and Zetterberg would definitely play together or apart. Regardless, line combinations are going to be constantly changing due to needs, hot/cold streaks, injuries, and so forth for every team. I'd definitely love to see Datsyuk and Zetterberg together consistently but they'll probably be split up at some point due to the nature of roster fluctuations of injuries and so forth. -

Yes. The person below me learned something useful from this video (explain what it was if you did).

Re-sign Lilja! Cowa or Bunga

A few thoughts... Unfortunately the officiating overall has been pretty atrocious. NHL officiating on grass perhaps? The U.S. got hosed out of wins, twice, all things remaining the same in those two games, but thankfully still advanced to the knockout rounds. England and Mexico got screwed bigtime as well. I absolutely hate when bitter fans on here or anywhere use the officiating excuse card if their team loses, but referees playing a bigger outcome than necessary in determining a game and blowing obvious calls that a 2nd grader could make equally aggravates the hell out of me as well. As for the U.S., there's a lot of different angles you can take to whether or not you are happy or disappointed in them or whatever. First the positive/happy side... They did advance to the knockout stage, which was an initial goal probably - and they did it despite getting shafted a few times as explained above. On the happy go side realizing that along with understanding that some of the soccer giants bowed out early this year (Italy, France etc., Argentina in '02 in South Korea/Japan I believe, and so forth) and this happens pretty much every year in the World Cup when you have a limited amount of games and such a slim margin for error, you can have probably some form of contentedness. Now the disappointing side... Getting to the knockout stage is great, but it would be hard for the cards to fall into place again anytime soon to where they'd have a chance at a big run to Quarterfinals, Semifinals etc. like what happened this year in playing Ghana then Uruguay/South Korea if they won. They blew that opportunity. No disrespect to Ghana, they've beaten the USA twice in a row now, but losing to Ghana in the biggest stage was extremely disappointing. Hypothetically speaking, maybe Ghana is one of those teams the U.S. beats 7, 8 times out of 10. But, if the U.S. wants to get themselves to the same level of consistency as teams like Germany, Brazil, England, Spain, etc. - they need to win the games they should win (at least on paper) when it counts most. That they still haven't been able to prove yet. I honestly don't think much needs changing, just a little bit of luck and trying to get a little bit more firepower, as our forward corps just has a lack of finishing power it seems.

I was responding to the guy predicting bad stuff saying that the Wings are in deep doo-doo because they get older. I was trying to explain to him that everybody gets older everywhere and it's a silly excuse to say a team won't be as good. Everybody gets older. Getting old is a natural part of life.
-
Every team has players that get older every year. That's part of life.

Yep. The person below me thinks wobble wobble is a silly phrase.

Would be nice if this was a norm, but lines change all the time throughout a season due to needs, cold/hot streaks, injuries, whatever else...
-
He was injured just about all year and he claimed he could barely walk at times when not playing and it was a pain in the rear to even walk up stairs and such. Please at least consider this before you go off the deep end in the hatred level illogically. I will never understand the obsessive disliking of some players on here by some members, when pretty much every time the players are obviously not as bad as these airheads on here over-dramatize.

Yep. The person below me thinks it'd be cool if they could invoke thunder and lightning like The Count from Sesame Street does so flawlessly.

What is it why you're a fan of this team?

After having a few hockey video games as a kid and seeing my dad back in the early/mid 90s have ESPN on and a hockey game was on sometimes after work while he was doing other things, my interest in the game slowly increased. I just really thought it was a cool sport to watch. The Red Wings eventually grew on me, or they were "good". I started watching with a lot more interest starting around the 1995-96 season, saw as many games as I could before the NHL Center Ice era when I was in high school then college. Still watch just about every game now with NHL Center Ice/online streams. Who knows what would happen, but I'd like to say if this franchise had major name changes or whatever I'd still watch them. -
Nobody thinks that. You overdramatize everything regarding Hudler. Nobody thinks he is the second coming of Jesus, and we get that you hate them. We understood this a long time ago. The only person making a giant soap opera about Hudler is you, nobody else. And it is absolutely aggravating after the 500th time that you've done it. Your posts regarding him are dead weight, so there's no need to talk about him. Anyways, the Wings are good enough to win the Cup.

Nope, and pretty much never have. While those things are probably cool for informative purposes, I decide what I will do for the day or how it will turn out (or at least to the best of my control). The person below me thinks I should try to do a handstand with just one hand.
