Chris Pronger is a pretty big idiot. It doesn't matter how good he might be, or how good/bad Burish might be. Burish is just making a confirmation.

Toews: Most undeserving Conn Smyth winner in history?

When you're among your franchise leader's in playoff points for a season, I wouldn't call winning the Conn Smythe undeserving. Did others deserve it over him? Perhaps. I would've given Byfuglen a shot. But completely underserving? That's reaching way out there...

    chicago-based wings fans

Let me back up a bit. I pretty much stand by what I said earlier but I'll try to take a bit softer stance.. Of course it can get silly or irritating what's generally being described in this thread, but for every team there's a few idiot fans from Chicago making fun of Detroit, to Philly slamming on Pittsburgh in any sport or vice versa, to Los Angeles teams ragging on each other, whatever. There were probably plenty around that were making fun of Saints fans when we won our first Super Bowl this past season. It's a never ending cycle, regardless of how long a fan you've been, if you are a newbie or bandwagoner who doesn't quite know the game fully, whatever. It's just one of those things that is a part of life that's always going to be there and I can't really do aynthing about it or control so there's not much point in it ruining my day. I can take ragging from fans all day. Doesn't bother me. As long as people don't try to initiate by throwing hands with me or throw debris at me and as long as they aren't ruining the fan experieneces of others around them while I'm at a game (i.e. not considering family types and kids around, just constant slurs not knowing when to shut up when others can watch a game normally where noise naturally ebbs/flows, etc.), we'll always be good.

Happens in every arena, every city like you said. So why get pissy about it? Who gives a damn if they say Detroit sucks or Philly sucks? They're just being playful and in the moment. They could say 1000 things much worse and much more offending.

    Great or Bust?

^ This. Kinda early to do that after just 1 full professional season. More power to him for doing well in Philadelphia this post season but remember, he barely did squat with Philly to begin with as well as the Wings this season. At the time of the trade, it made sense. Leino was underperforming to begin with, was having trouble cracking the depth chart partially because of lack of production/personnel even with injuries (opinion, not stating as fact so...), so you could possible take the angle that Wings mgmt. did him a favor by giving him an opportunity elsewhere.

Every team has it's a'hole and bandwagon fans, including the Red Wings. Whenever a team wins a championship, the fans will be the loudest. Happens every year. It doesn't matter who won more championships, who has better personnel, why my city is better than yours, whatever. Let them have their moment in the sun, they'll eventually fade away and life will return to normal. As long as they aren't hurting anybody, it isn't worth getting all pissed off at the hassle because this happens every year. Just ignore and walk away. You, me, nor anybody else is going to change these fans.

    Why Holmstrom

I will ask you... How could money be spent more wisely when... Hudler was re-signed (whether you like it or not/$$$ is debatable obviously) It's all but assumed, and I believe Holland said more/less, that there would probably not be any big-name signings this offseason... Lidstrom re-signed for less money... Holmstrom re-signed for less money... Bertuzzi will probably re-sign, if he does, for the same or less money... And the roster is going to not be all that different? Your complaints about money being well spent is something that happens with every franchise/GMs with the what if question game. Where it gets to cherrypicking and reaching. You are cherry picking and grasping at straws on ways to spend money better where it is hard and often not worth finding the answers to those nearly impossible questions.

    Why Holmstrom

Holmstrom can score goals and he too signed for less than his less contract.

    Why Holmstrom

*facepalm and a half* It's easy to say we should've kept Leino AFTER THE FACT and AFTER HE'S FINALLY DOING WELL. He barely did squat here during the trade so I don't regret whatsoever getting rid of him. More power to him doing well in Philly. Babcock manages Holmstrom great. When he feels it is necessary, he puts him in a reduced role on even strength if he feels that Holmstrom can't keep up speed wise. Holmstrom is still a decent option on the top or second line when Babcock feels that his speed/lack thereof won't be an issue. Lidstrom signed for less than he did last year, he still gave the Wings a discount and is a steal money wise for being one of the best defensemen in the league. Holland is still one of the better GMs in the league, by other peers in the NHL. Your post is a bad one, really really bad.

    Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

That must be it. In all seriousness, in the management position you take chances and have to deal people sometimes or claim people. Sometimes they work out (i.e. Ryan Miller), sometimes they don't (i.e. first Bertuzzi stint here). Also, Leino was not on fire when he first started with the Flyers as stated above. He didn't even start the playoffs for them in the first series. It would've been nice for Leino to stay here and for it to work out. But he was barely doing anything and at the time, management felt they needed to cut dead weight. They needed to make a decision and take that chance. I'm not going to get bitter that Leino got traded and not much was given back to the Wings at the time because his trade value was so low at the time and nobody could've predicted he would be doing what he's doing presently, especially since when he started with Philly he still was barely doing anything. Being upset that he still isn't here in the general sense, fine. Getting mad if management hypothetically trades away somebody like Zetterberg or Franzen or other people that have produced, even if it is a fair trade. Getting mad at management for the Leino trade when he wasn't doing anything, but now all of a sudden is, is silly. I'll re-emphasize that if this is a mistake by management, it's way down in the bottom of the pile of mistakes. Meh, analysts just need something to talk about. Again, you have to take chances in the management position. Fair/unfair, at the time Wings management thought Leino was dead weight/fat that needed to be cut off because of lack of past performance, and quite possibly his stance of I'm not playing in the minors anymore, it's here or back to Europe for me (not saying that's neither bad/good, is what it is). If this is a mistake, it's one I don't mind living with since it's so low on the totem pole.

please chicago win the stanley cup

Cool. *awkward hommie hug* It just pisses me off when somebody says you're not a true fan or you're a so-and-so fan if you don't do these exact things. I can usually tell when it's in fun, but it goes overboard in here with plenty. It's ridiculous, there are no "rules" in order to be a fan, you like who you like/dislike and everybody likes different teams or players for different reasons and forcing your rules down other people's throats like they are idiots isn't going to change their minds. I just don't like doing it unless people who initiate deserve to get dumped back on. I'm not going to make fun of fans in Phoenix or Florida generally speaking that aren't as established as an O-6 franchise and who might have just started following the game a year or two ago if they don't completely know the rules or all the players, I'm not going to put a bandwagoner tag on anybody, you're a fan and you like watching regardless, no matter how long, no matter for whom, etc. I'm not going to give people attitude and tell them they are stupid for who they cheer for or whatever, even if I don't like them. One of my friends from college who I still keep in touch with off and on was raised in the Pittsburgh area so he likes the Penguins, but eventually wound up working for the Philadelphia Eagles as a trainer, so he liked the Eagles more than the Steelers. Of course I don't like the Penguins all that much, and liking both the Eagles and Steelers would clash naturally you think, but do I give him crap for it? No. He likes who he likes and I'm not going to change it, I think that's cool that he likes the teams he likes, and me going on a soap box about ZOMG Pittsburgh etc. isn't going to change jack squat. Basically I'm all about respecting everybody else regardless of affiliation. I'll always be friendly with the enemy if they don't act overboard and obnoxious towards others. Don't act like an a'hole to me or others and deserve getting lashed back at.
