Voted other. For whatever reason, Larionov's behind-the-back pass to Luc Robitaille for a goal stood out most to me. (WCF Game 7 vs. Colorado, Wings went up 3-0 in the 1st period on that). Close second is Roy's Statue of Liberty Gaffe. Third is Larionov's 3 OT goal against Carolina. Fourth is any play with Holmstrom scoring or being involved in a goal since he's my favorite player. *shrugs*

Given how inconsistent this team has been lately even with people coming back, I honestly have no clue which matchup might be better or not. I'm still going to go with the preference of playing at home first and being the 4th seed, but honestly given the above I won't be too disappointed if it is one matchup or another.

0 points for a loss, no questions asked. Getting rewarded with a point for losing is silly. 1 point for a win in a shootout. 2 points for a win in overtime. 3 points for a win in regular time. OR 2 points for a win. 1 point for a tie. I have no problem with shootouts and the like, I think they are fun and exciting. I also have no problem with the old W-L-T system. Either is fine with me. And with seeding... I have no problem with the concept of rewarding a division winner with a higher seed. This year obviously both conferences have division winners where they have so few points. Just use 2 divisions per conference under the same structure, and the ridiculous gap is likely not as apparent. Or if you continue to go the three divisions, re-seed your teams after the first round based on points.

EDIT: Much appreciated if our fearless leaders could modify the thread title as necessary, subject title making fail on my part. Meant for it to read..."Playoff seeding & Divison winners - Completely change, slightly modify, or do nothing?" This season and the current standings show that playoff seedings and the like could or should be modified, given how both 3rd place teams will pretty much have less points than the 4th/5th/6th seeded teams in the conference. So, what would you change about this? Would you change anything at all? Personally, I think there should be some type of award for winning your division as there is at present. Nothing wrong with that concept to me. If you keep going this route however, somehow a concept of just two divisions in a conference perhaps, or keep the existing alignments, reward your division winners like usual these days, and re-seed the teams after the first round. Because more than likely if you do a re-seeding concept this year, 3rd place team would likely start the second round on the road, assuming those seeds win their first round series obviously.

To go further on my original response since it seemed kinda unfinished to me... Again I have zero issues with giving a division winner some type of reward/high seed. Somebody mentioned the NBA playoff formatting which I wasn't fully aware of. I know they just have two divisions per conference and that's pretty much what I would favor, even if the NHL didn't go into more detail as the NBA did. As has been mentioned it doesn't make much sense for Philly-Pitt to likely be squaring off in the first round, same with Detroit-Colorado back in 2000 early in the playoff season, etc. Divsion winners per conference would get the top 2 seeds (and I am going on the basis that the NHL adopts two divisions per conference, but that in itself is not the point and another discussion for another time), that would likely be enough to reduce so much discrepency between a divsion leader and lower seeds in most scenarios. Any re-seeding for the postseason probably wouldn't be necessary then. Pretty much we are all in agreement that it is flawed and could use some tweaking up.

Pretty much how I feel on the issue. He's my favorite player so I'll obviously be biased a bit towards the staying side, but he can still be used on the PP (been making plenty of chances these past few games and finally got out of a goal funk earlier in the week) and he still brings the effort pretty much every shift. Not that I think Emmerton has been bad by any stretch, and honestly that line was probably the best one against the Predators last game, but I just don't think they are going to generate much in terms of scoring chance. I don't think they are much of a liability or constantly giving up chances, they're just "there" right now. And Holmstrom in this instance could be a scratch off/on assuming everybody is healthy - back in the 2002 Cup season Larionov was rested a good bit in back-to-back games I believe for example. I still think he has enough left in the tank for one more go at it - given his current roles on the power play/limited even strength time. But it's either going to be this season or next then I think it'll finally be time to hang them up.

Given how horribly inconsistent the Wings have been lately, a lot can be contributed due to injuries, other factors such as want/desire as well, I don't feel all that confident regardless who they play right now. Given the league these days as well, pretty much no series is a guaranteed win regardless of if it is a 1-8 or 4-5 matchup. That being said though, while I've barely seen the Blues play, even though they don't light the lamp much, they seem to have the work ethic to make a deep run in the playoffs, even if their roster isn't that full of stars on paper. Whether they get worn out from busting their tails all season to get where they are at present after a slow start, who knows. I'd like their chances to make at least a deep playoff run given their work ethic, assuming injuries don't hit or they receive bad puck luck/bounces.

Who is a Cleary lover here? Who has stated they love Cleary? Pretty much everybody gets that it stinks that he is struggling probably primarily because of being injured, but only a select few thinks he has stunk from minute one on the extreme end. The only people that say stuff like *insert player's name* lovers are the ones that have an extreme disliking of the guy with negative bias alone. That's not really all that objective either.

If I want to keep in contact with certain people I will. I don't expect to be contacted by anybody though and I appreciate whenever people do. Who speaks the better gibberish... Taz or the Two Headed Monster (Sesame Street)

Given from what I've read in the recent past online (mlive, freep etc.) the few times that Stuart and his situation is mentioned it looks like he already has one foot out the door. Just wants to be closer to family back in California. Totally understandable. So I'm not expecting him back. Wouldn't be shocked if Qunicey is offered a multi-year deal. Not against it either.

They needed any type of win against Carolina and did so and gave Columbus little chance, making the game all but over early against a bad team like they needed to do. Not completely anointing our team back from the recent dead but I think they've finally turned the corner with the roster health improving accordingly.
