^ This. Lidstrom has taken discounts off and on throughout his career, and I consider this to be antoher one. Hell we'd all love for him to play for free if possible, but a lot of people are being unrealistic, and unfortuatnely are "demanding" now more/less that players in certain situations take discounts to remain a beloved Red Wing. Would it have been nice for him to sign for under $6 million or $5 million? Of course. Should we have expected it or demanded it to happen? Nope. Should we think anything less of Lidstrom now? Nope. This is a better team with Lidstrom in the lineup and I am thrilled he's back. Whatever he wants, within reason monetarily, he gets. $6 million a year is well within reason given that he's still one of the best d-men in the league.

Then stop giving the perception that Lidstrom isn't a team player and is selfish if he accepts 6 or 7 million or whatever (not just you, but a few other people as well). And believe me, this thread does not amuse me whatsoever and I'm not trying to turn anything into stuff for my enjoyment.

I still get a kick out of people thinking that if Lidstrom doesn't take a discount for the betterment of the team, he is a greedy selfish jerk. Sure, we've seen examples of people deferring money in the past. But it isn't the norm in business, nor should it be expected/assumed even though it's happened in Detroit a few times over a span of years and years. Giving up money to stay at a job longer or being loyal is definitely and honorable thing to do, but to expect Lidstrom to just give up millions to be a team player is just silly, when he is still one of the best defensemen in the league. Thinking less of him if he doesn't do so is even more ridiculous since he's taken cuts here/there in the past as already previous stated. Would it be nice if he took a huge pay cut for the team? Of course. Should we expect him to? Nope.

I think it's when he's off, he's REALLY off and it's hard not to notice. That and his penchant for penalties sometimes, though not always entirely fair and probably due to reputation. I'm all for him coming back. I highly doubt it would be for more than he made this year (and if it was I don't see it being much more), and I can put up with his brainfarts every now and then because he's shown he can still contribute on the stat sheet and is learning to park his keester in front of the net now.

^ This. It's a catch-22 and you can look at Hossa being there presently in different ways, no way being either right or wrong. He's doing some things here and there to contribute to wins (just like he did, albeit in an inconsistent manner, with Wings wings last playoffs when he wasn't scoring - i.e. Game 1 or 2 of the SCF where he had two assists in a win), but he's getting paid to put up points and score. If he keeps this pace up, or lack thereof, on the scoresheet and Chicago wins, I don't think it's out of reach to say that Chicago won in spite of him, if you're going to look at he gets paid to score goals etc.

You don't have to like him, but this thread has nothing to do with Jiri Hudler but your obsessive disliking of him somehow makes it a subject when there is no need for it to be a subject. Your soapbox rants about Hudler aren't necessary. That, along with your perception that Lidstrom should all of a sudden take an absurd paycut just for the better of the team is absurd or is a greedy idiot to possibly not do so or thinking he should retire is getting you negative posts. Life may go on after Lidstrom, but this team is a lot better with him, and I don't want to see him retire. I can understand taking a small paycut here/there, but I'm sorry, some of you thinking he should retire and kicking him rear end to the curb if he doesn't just sacrifice millions are out of your mind.
