While he definitely didn't "turn this franchise around" alone, he was the centerpiece and deserves the most credit. Lidstrom, bless his heart, wasn't even close if you are comparing in this situation. You are going to get criticized for this heavily. When I read of this Tuesday morning, I was just totally shocked. I knew he was up for the job in Tampa Bay, but I barely pay attention to behind the scenes stuff, I had zero clue who the other candidates were, I could probably only ID maybe 2 or 3 GMs off the top of my head, etc. So most of Tuesday was a sour, sad day. You rarely ever get this loyalty in professional sports anymore or in any profession. I wish Yzerman the best of luck in Tampa!

I pretty much do the same things I do if the Wings were playing and I'd have my full attention on the game - go to work, exercise if time permits, perhaps read a book or play a video game briefly if time permits, do house or yard work if it is needed, feed my pet and make him exercise and stay active, make dinner, etc. Way too much going on for me to even think too much in length about the Wings being eliminated or getting bored or whatever.

It's nice in theory, but the only times we've really seen it worked or tried is in a single game elimination (i.e. Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four/Frozen Four, etc.). While home ice can be overhyped/overrated at times yes, that's something you strive to play for in both the NBA and NHL to get to the playoffs IMO.

Why? Primarily because you are acting like a tough guy telling people it is not okay or it is stupid to do stuff when it is perfectly okay to. If you would've restated the above earlier instead of making Holland out to be this bad terrible person, you'd probably be a bit less nuts. If you did this and I failed to see it, I apologize. Still, Holland isn't doing anything out of the ordinary in terms of greed or selfishness here.

He was a part of this organization for 20+ years and was one of the best athletes/people employed ever by this organization. People like this come few and far between so people get attached to them a little bit. If somebody like this left your company after 20+ years, there will probably be sadness and a few tears as well. Don't tell people how and how not to act or that it's a bit too much. I nearly shed some tears, does that make me less of a man or person or whatever? So Holland is supposed to step aside for the better of Yzerman's career and improvement when Holland has given zero indication he is going to retire or move onto another position anytime soon? Give me a break.

Some probably want Chicago to win because of Hossa or because they are in the same division as the Wings or because they are an Original Six team. Some probably want Montreal to win because they're basically the Cinderella team this year and it's easy to root for the underdog, regardless of how many championships they've won. Some people like the rugged Flyers style of play or perception of play and want Philadelphia to win. People want other teams to win for various reasons. That doesn't make their reasons any better or worse than yours, nor is your reasoning any better or worse than others.

Anybody but Philly now, Montreal first. Fair or not I typically don't like much related to professional sports in the state of Pennsylvania. I don't have any feelings towards either San Jose or Chicago, so it doesn't matter who advances to the finals from there.

And to add further, if they want to expand viewership, DON'T PUT IT ON THE SAME DAY where there are so many legitmate college football bowl games when January 1st is probably college football heaven. If they absolutely want to keep it around January 1st, put it the weekend immedately before January 1st. A good bit of the college football bowl games before then are still so-so at best to the average viewer who doesn't have an emotional or financial stake in the game. Or, a weekend in-between the end of the BCS college football championship and before the Super Bowl. Or, any weekend in February when it is still cold in most places and there aren't any championship games going on in any sport and before March Madness in college basketball.
