Typically the latter because I eat light portions during the week to try to lose weight, but I love stuffing myself every now and then, so both! Smacking somebody upside the head or Strangling them senseless

It's a shame unfortuantely. I'm not really one to just go batty on players and didn't on Jason Williams when he was re-signed. At the time - and I'll re-stress again AT THE TIME - it was a decent signing after losing Hossa, Samuelsson, and Hudler. Hopefully Williams could've filled some of the goal scoring void. And he was obviously no superstar the first time around, but I didn't think he was all that bad. Overall the second time around though, he barely did squat, if that. It won't hurt my feelings if he left, if by some chance he still stays here, I'll pretty much be like, "Meh, whatever." Best of luck to him elsewhere I'm assuming.

It'd be nice if they show a little more emotion or desperation outwardly, but a lot of them have been through so much in terms of experience that we won't see them lose their cool too much or get too emotionally high or low. I think it's safe to assume they know when to turn up the urgency, even if they don't show it much. Unless it's just something completely off the wall, I don't really read too much into what players say, especially if it is of the boring or quiet variety like we see with the Wings sometimes.

What Was Your Favorite Game This Season?
SouthernWingsFan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
My favorite games were probably the Vancouver game with the 2 quick goals/win in OT with no time left, as well as Phoenix playoff games 2 and 7 with all the ridiculous scoring. EDIT: Also the Pittsburgh game. Crosby just makes it so easy to dislike him for better and worse. I actually lucked out in going to a game. I was in Phoenix for other reasons right at the beginning of the new year - the college I went to was playing in the Fiesta Bowl on Monday Jan. 4th - but I lucked out that the Wings were playing that weekend on Saturday Jan. 2nd so I went to that and saw a good win and two goals by my favorite player (Holmstrom)! -
In terms of NHL now, Vancouver and Boston. Though it really wouldn't kill me if Chicago won, I pretty much like all three teams in the Western Conference to some degree. Basically like most probably, ANYBODY but Pittsburgh. I guess if we go in terms of ordering of cheering to win. 1. Boston 2. Vancouver (largely for Samuelsson etc.) 3. Montreal 4 (tie). San Jose/Chicago 6. Philadelphia 7. Pittsburgh In terms of other teams, just skip to June for the World Cup (USA!!!) or just skip to September for college football for my alma mater, already ready!

This may compeltely just whiff on what you are trying to point out, but I think pretty much most fans want players that are loud, recognizable, whatever. Basically not boring/predictable. For better/worse, that's what a lot of the Wings are I think with interviews or attitude in terms of just keeping things level-headed usually. Nothing really to worry about I think and unless somebody really goes off in an interview (i.e. "Are you an expert?" as a recent example), I usually don't take too much of what these guys say with a grain of salt.

Franzen Upset Refs Missed Call, Stuart has sprained MCL
SouthernWingsFan replied to a topic in General
I was out watching the game and it had no sound so I really did not have much idea what happened at the time. Finally just saw a replay and I'm stunned... Just another example of how incompetent the officiating this series was. The Sharks desereved to win and were the better team (though not by much even though it just went 5 games), but the refs played much more of a hand in this series than they should have. A damned shame... -
Babcock knows more about hockey than pretty much all of us, doesn't mean people can't talk about stuff in here. As for McCrimmon, can't blame him fully as he can't make the players do stuff on the ice, but everybody has to have some accountability at the job, he probably shares some of the blame for bad defense at times.

Haven't really read initial responses as this is the first time I've signed on today but this is a topic that interests me right off the bat. More often than not, I absolutely cannot stand when fans of a team simply cannot accept that their team lost. Losing is a part of life in sports, it is going to happen. Don't get me wrong, I love watching the Wings and my other teams, rarely miss games, but my sports watching has it's place in life, and that's it. I typically don't get too pissy or glum if my team loses a game to where it ruins my daily life or work, no matter how big/little the game. So, I cannot stand claims of bias or anti-bias or officiating or other external forces usually in a team losing more often than not. It makes fans sound bitter and whiney and like a bunch of kids. Now, with that being said, the Sharks were the better team this series, but not that much even though they took just 5 games to win it. So I will give the Sharks their fair credit. However, this was one of the worst officated series and handful of games, in any sport. Of course I'm a Wings fan so I'd be biased a bit more, but when you have professional analysts chiming in that the officiaing was bad, at least for one game (game 2), you know you got some problems. I hate when fans get on soapboxes like I described above, but I absolutely also cannot stand officiating incompetency where they play a bigger hand than necessary in determining the outcomes of games. And it happened way too much this series. I can accept that the Wings lost this series and the Sharks were the better team just enough. The officiating though was much more of a factor in this series and that is a shame. Not trying to sound pissy or making excuses, it was just an unfortunate factor in the series that shouldn't have been.

Late night games are typical in the east coast in any league (MLB, NBA, etc.) when games in the West Coast start at 7:00. Happens all the time. This is not a new phenomenon in sports. Sorry. And as for no games on NBC this weekend, NBC always plays 3rd and 4th round of the PGA Tour TPC Players Championship whenever it is played, and those rounds are always on a Saturday and Sunday. Been doing it for years. Games will be back on NHL next weekend.

If I was a Sharks fan, I'd be nervous as hell given your recent playoff history and current moniker of bowing out early. I almost always have nerves when games are going on live. There's anticipation for me before games obviously, but I rarely get too giddy or too nervous or worrysome no matter what the game is. Not really nervous now, if they lose at least they didn't just roll over and die this series from last game's effort so I probably won't be all too disappointed, and while we obviously want Cup every year, to get this far given injuries and the like is a pretty good deal. If/when the Wings get eliminated sooner than later, after the dust and emotions settle that will be a good moral victory/recognition even though it won't count for anything.

eva, for the love of god give it up for everybody's sake and sanity in here. You are not going to convince anybody, or very few on here on here, that keeping Kopecky here or that Koopecky of present will make that much of a significant difference to the Red Wings chances right now, whether people are being overzealous of him or not.
-
Mainly about Stuart being a game-time decision, but also says lineup will stay the same outside of Stuart. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/05/red_wings_defenseman_brad_stua_2.html

Good on Kopecky for what it looks like producing more with some more ice time. Nobody is disputing that. However, as much as I wanted him to succeed, he barely did squat for this team during his tenure here. It didn't hurt my feelings that he was let go. We are doing all right without him and I highly doubt he would've made that much of a significant difference if the Wings get eliminated sooner rather than later. I wish him the best.

Detroit is old and one win wont change that.
SouthernWingsFan replied to swansoccer13's topic in General
Of course they are old! Kids cannot play in the NHL! Silly writer... Sounds like somebody can't write about the Jackets right now because they aren't playing...
