Last night or the current standings shows exactly why wishing or choosing your teams isn't necessary. I get the 6th argument, I get they've played well against the Stars this year, I get the Sharks are probably not the Sharks of the past two years, but you can easily flip the other side of the coin and say the Sharks still have the Red Wings number in the postseason (and yes you can just as easily say they nearly blew a 3-0 series lead last year etc.). You play who you are going to play. Throwing games just to get a possible favorable matchup when that matchup isn't a guarnatee is silly. And given how the Wings have been so dominant at home when healthy, I'd think finishing 1st or likely/hopefully 4th in this case is pretty darn important. Just win and win as much as possible is the simple motto here.

Bingo. Pitt will certainly have a well-rounded roster assuming full health. The Blues, for example will likely have a hard working gritty team per usual as most of this season. They definitely should be respected. Nor should any team be taken lightly just because they might not be as talented on paper. While the Wings struggles are frustrating obviously as of late, with a healthier roster you never know what's going to happen in the postseason. No team - Pitt, St. Louis, Detroit, etc. is a slam dunk to win the Cup.

None really. Pitt comes close - while it is difficult to like them to start and they beat us in 2009 in a bitter fashion, for me it's not so much about them themselves as the absurd amount of attention they get (plenty deserved obviously but it gets too much after a while - and no I'm not looking for the Wings to get that much attention), but we don't need to go into that since it's been mentioned in here plenty in the past. Other than that, nobody really. Wasn't happy or mad that Chicago won recently, not from the areas so I guess I don't understand or get into the rivalry as much. Rivalries and dislikings can be fun obviously, just don't like getting into them much - on this level or for my college/alma mater and what not - just gets over the top sometimes and I don't like going that route. Just want my team to win and more often than not that's enough for me.

Every fan base will have their over the top idiots and a'holes. The Wings are no exception to the rule, the Blackhawks are no exception to the rule, Canucks fans for example with the riots after the SCF are no exception to the rule either. Blackhawk fans certainly didn't endear themselves when a majority of them disrespected one of their franchise's best players in a ceremony last season just because he played for a rival team and that rival team happened to play that evening. To also compare/contrast, down here with the recent bounty scandal for the New Orleans Saints, fans are obviously upset at the length of suspensions for coaches. Also, this past postseason we got eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers at their place and I read and heard of many reports that Saints fans who went to that game got treated with over the top disrespect (projectiles thrown at them, absurd verbal chants more than just fun ribbing, etc.). Not denying those stories aren't true, and a lot of Saints fans down here say they are above that behavior and oh so perfect and treat their opposing fans hospitable. While I generally agree with that and we are a typically friendly bunch, plenty Saints fans down here in general are nuts as well and if you cross them, they'll act just as over the top. The Super Bowl is down here this upcoming season and I would not want to be in the NFL Commisioner - who put these suspensions on the Saints staff - down here at that time. I'm not saying that Saints fans shouldn't be angry, but I can guarantee you he should be fearing for his safety with Saints fans around and Saints fans aren't always so nice. And no, I'm not one of those over the top people. I'll react or get excited/upset in the heat of the moment but I rarely like carrying on emotionally, happy or angry in a rant or rambling like fashion. Point is there is going to be over-the-top knuckleheads that come in all shapes, sizes, ages and colors for the Wings, Hawks, 'Nucks, Saints, 49ers - pretty much every single fan base that you want to stay away from - no matter how much they might say they are better than other fans or behave great or whatever, but they rarely define the whole crowd.

"Coasting" or what you might perceive as lack of effort does not necessarily, and likely doesn't, equal getting injured. I'm just as frustrated as you and everybody else here with the roster situation but this simply isn't true.

If you look at two seasons ago where the Wings had to claw and scrap to make the playoffs until they were finally comfortably in the last week or two, it could be argued that throughout the season that roster had an even more absurd amount of injuries. They still made the playoffs and gave a solid effort. I'm hoping that this season will be different when/if they eventually get healthy again like 2010 and can go deeper in the playoffs. My point being, like in 2010, I think for the most part they are doing the best they can with what they have at present time. Like everybody else I'm frustrated watching it as well, but I just don't think you can realistically plan or predict a ridiculous number of injuries nearly happening all at once and expect a majority of minor leaguers at present time that are still developing to completely fill the void. To go to the car anaolgy, if something breaks down and everything else works, you can probably fix it in a decent amount of time. If multiple things break down or you get in a bad car accident where you have to fix parts and repair dents and re-paint doors all at once, it's probably going to take longer regardless of what happened. Same with this team. And that's not a knock on this team specifically, it's just hard for any roster to play with so many injuries at once. To compare/contrast, while I barely follow the NBA before the playoffs, this year the local team down here, New Orleans Hornets have been decimated with injuries just about all year. Probably was realistic they'd be a .500/slightly above .500 team if fully healthy, but right now they have the worst record in the Western Conference, 2nd worst in NBA. Injuries playing a major factor because of it. The Wings just need to do the best they can with what they got. No trades or bigger people would've likely prevented these injuries, playing harder or not being soft like people have been throwing around lately (which I can agree with to a degree) wouldn't have prevented these injuries, probably nothing would have. Just hope like hell they can get bodies back fast and resume playing like they were in mid-season.

Definitely worth a shot, very little is working right now. As for the Holmstrom disliking, it's a bit much. He's my favorite player so my answer will obviously be pro-biased, but I just simply want to see something, anything shake this team up for the better. If it's Homer-Datsyuk-Zetterberg, great. If it's somebody else with those two, great. If it's those three all on separate lines, great. The trio has been successful in the past. I get that Holmstrom is probably all but retiring after this season or next, but again just about anything is worth a shot right now.

Me either. Only 8-hour drive for me to Dallas so... (nah, wouldn't be able to go, I'm all but going up to there to the Metroplex in late September/early October, but I digress) We ave indeed played well against them this year but I'm not one that never has been one to "wish" matches or seeds to get to a specific matchup. Not because I fear or disrespect teams, I don't fear or disrespect anybody. Just win as much as you can is simply my thoughts regarding this, and this season with the Wings being so dominant at home when healthy it is pretty important this year. Still holding out hope for #1/#2 but not holding my breath obviously with this recent slide. #4 would be find, guaranteed home ice for at least one round. And yes I get that the last two SCF game 7s have been won on the road.

Really not understanding why Blues fans in here need us to stroke their ego more than necessary or feeling the need to try so hard for our approval. Anybody with half a brain at present time will give the Blues their fair kudos for doing so well in a coaching change, barely losing lately, and a realistic chance of taking the division. Nothing more, and nothing less. I don't get into the rivalry aspect in general much so if the Blues make a deep playoff run or whatever, I'll be way ahead in line giving them their kudos. I'm not going to kiss their butt more than necessary though. They've done well so far, they'll probably be a hard out in the playoffs, but all they have accomplished is a top seed just about 70 games into the season. The season is longer than 70 games. They still have work to do.
