Should the NHL change the Conference seeding rule?
SouthernWingsFan replied to wingsdiehard13's topic in General
My whole standings stance if shootouts remained would be 3 points for a regulation win, 2 in overtime, 1 in a shootout, 0 for a loss at any point. If it's W-L-T, the 2 for a win and 1 point for a tie each way works fine like it did before. -
More and more I am favoring putting Abdlekader or May over Williams to play with Draper and Miller on a 3rd/4th line. I'm hoping that Cleary-Helm-Eaves stays constant. I mentioned before in this thread that I understand and won't be disappointed if/why Williams remains in the lineup for the playoffs and I want him to succeed, but he is just bone dry right now.

He's recognizing that it was a solid regular season and giving it proper kudos. The most important season though is just a few days away. He's not saying anything all that out of the ordinary.

The current playoff seeding system is fine IMO. The points you get in the standings for the regular season is what needs serious fixing IMO. Even though the Wings have benefited greatly from it, the dinky point for overtime or shootout losses just is silly I think. Either go back to a win-loss-tie system without any shootouts, or if you keep the shootouts (which I do typically like - it has it's place in the regular season), reward the team more for winning in 60 minutes and no points for a loss at any point in a game, no questions asked. -
Burrows is a foo-foo head. That's right I said it.

This x1000. One of the best in the game presently, probably a decent/normal guy in the grand scheme of things when nothing is on the line or we're just living our lives and nothing exciting is going on, but when things don't go his way or he loses he takes his frustration way off the deep end and we've all seen that show plenty. Which is plenty more irritating IMO and makes him easier to dislike, generally speaking.

Oh yeah, no doubt about it. Just overall in sports and in general "talking" isn't a brand new discovery all of a sudden and it's not like he said anything derogatory or whatever. Talking like that or press clipping really don't bug me all that much. Kinda like an "I've seen enough throughout my life to not get bothered by it" approach or whatever. Of course people can have their fun with it still, just not something I usually take much part in. Probably could've approached my first post less directly, so my bad there.

So he said Detroit is beatable and said something mean and nasty about the Red Wings. Big whoopdie doo. Pretty much every team is beatable and no one team scares the bejesus out of me and this isn't the first time somebody has "talked", nor will it be the last time. Nothing to get our panties in a bunch about.

No doubt about it. I didn't think Williams was bad last time around with the Wings overall, but he didn't stand out to do anything all that great/good consistently. Same this year as well. Again I'll stress since my other post is at the bottom of the last page, at the time of needing more offense with Hudler and Hossa and Samuelsson leaving and not that much cap space, Williams was a decent signing at the time. Hopefully he'll have a change of fortune/luck but he hasn't done much to change as pointed out by titanium2.

Don't necessarily like it but I still do, about 2-3 times a year usually. The person below me is tired of Tiger Woods coverage.

I can get a full grown beard in a matter of 3-4 days, it's ridiculous how fast I can grow facial hair, but I hate it, every time I grow a goatee infrequently and say I'm going to keep it, I shave if off after a week or a few days because I'm tired of itching and scratching at it. No predictability on when I might wear my Red Wings jersey during playoffs either, just if I'm in the mood or whatever. I got nothing. I am dull and lame.

At the time of Williams coming back here, it was a pretty decent signing. We lost Hossa (expectedly), Samuelsson (wasn't too surprised) and Hudler (unexpected). Hopefully Williams could've filled some of the scoring gap some there with maybe a 15-20 goal season, but it just hasn't happened. What I hate about deals like these is people that say "so-and-so" was a bad trade or signing months and months or years and years after it happened. Anybody can play armchair GM and say that something didn't go right after somebody didn't quite perform or whatever. If that were the case, the Wings should've have traded for Bertuzzi the first time, or sign Uwe Krupp because they could magically predict he was going to have a dog-sledding accident. That's going to irritate the hell out of me if or when that is done with Williams. I don't think he's the cause of cancer like some have portrayed often in here during both of Williams' stints in Detroit, but he just can't produce worth a lick lately. Part of it is probably bad puck luck, and I wander also if his injury is affecting him more than we can see. He's got more offensive upside than his possible replacements (Abdlekader, May) in the playoffs so I understand won't be disappointed if he's scratched and, but it won't kill me to see Abdlekader or May take Williams' spot on a 3rd/4th line (with them obviously playing different role(s) than Williams). My guess is Williams starts the playoffs, but if he's bone dry in production, he'll be out after the first few games.

Should the Wings part ways with Osgood?

While that could possibly happen in a sophmore season, but I still fail to see how Price would be so much better than Howard. You're probably not going to convince many people. Sorry. -

This is opinion, not fact. Saying so-and-so would've happened doesn't make it true. You're expectations are unrealistic. You are expecting him to give up just one or two goals a game or get 15 shutouts every single game. With how the rules have changed the past few years, getting a GAA under 2.00 for AN ENTIRE YEAR is a helluva feat and might just happen once, twice a year, if at all. And could Howard stop more in shootouts? Sure. The shooters could also score a little bit more. And pretty much any goalie from Greg Goldberg of the Mighty Ducks District-5 Team to Martin Brodeur is going to let a bad goal in from time to time. I still fail to see how Price or Halak would be such a significant upgrade over Howard, who as pointed out above has some of the better stats AS A ROOKIE, where Price and Halak do not. And Price has not proven to be a franchise goalie (nor has Howard). Be a little bit more realistic. That's why Wings players and the like are claiming Howard to be the MVP of the team this year, and why major sports outlets point out that without Howard, the Wings might not be in the playoffs. You're pretty silly you know that? -
I have no idea what Splenda is. I do use sugar substitutes for coffee though. *shrugs* The person below me thinks this is funny.
