Come on Flames please take Howard. He isn't as good as Bishop but he is still a serviceable number 1 who just had a rough season. And he would come much much cheaper than bishop if we retain salary.

If the only way to trade the contract is a prospect and 2nd rounder I hope we stand pat. I understand a player like Stamkos doesn't hit free agency often but let's be realistic about our chances to get him. First of all he could re-sign with Tampa. If he doesn't I think 12 mill is the price for him. No thanks on that. I'd rather keep Datsyuk's contract, struggle one year and end the stupid streak, get a high draft pick next year and go hard after free agents in 2017.

I read an article a couple weeks ago that still had him as a top 3 gm in the NHL. I'll have to find it.

And yet Holland is voted one of the top GM's in the league every year. He hasn't signed a player to a good contract in at least 6 years. It's evident when we have no trade pieces because all of our contracts are inflated.

Dear god no on Filppula. He disappeared for long stretches in a wings uniform and that was when he was in his prime. No thanks.

I have a feeling Detroit will have a deal in place for Datsyuk's contract with a team dependent on getting a big fish free agent to sign with Detroit. So I don't see it being traded till July 1st or after. Holland knows if he trades away good pieces and then strikes out in free agency he will be looking for another job.

Basically what we are paying Green although 7 years is too much. Still would have taken him instead of Green.

No way we could compete with anyone for Subban. Edmonton would trade Taylor Hall as the starting piece. We don't have anything that would come close to that.

Great news about the cap going up. We need that cap space and hopefully it forces the hand of the lower market teams to take Datsyuk's contract. Although the bidding for Stamkos could be higher with the cap going up.

Yea NHL radio was talking about Malkin to Chicago. I don't know how they could possibly afford Kane, Toews, Seabrook, Keith, Hossa, Malkin, and extend Panarin next year. But for whatever reason Stan Bowman finds a way.

They made the rule last summer. Forgot about that. So used to the way it used to be.

No teams are allowed to make contact with him till July 1st. But one benefit to trading for his rights besides being able to discuss a contract with him is to have a chance to sign him before the bidding goes up when everyone has a shot at him. So they prolly sign him cheaper than they would be able to on July 1st.

No on Lucic. And not because he is a dirty player blah blah blah but because I don't think he would be worth the money he would demand on the open market. 3 years ago I'd def give him a look but he has been on the decline. I'd rather have Backes if we are looking for a bigger forward.

Holland isn't stupid. He would never sign Stamkos if he didn't already have the room for him financially.

Like many have pointed out on the site, it's not a matter of "if." If it was life or death, we could give someone Mantha and they would take the contract in a heartbeat. If the asking price doesn't come down from teams, he doesn't move the contract. It's as simple as that.

I agree that for a low market team that needs to get to the floor, this would be a dream come true. Get 7.5 mill towards your team salary without having to pay a cent of it and get a free prospect or draft pick. I'd be surprised if Arizona or Carolina doesn't work with us.
