Holland isn't stupid. He knew if he had Datsyuk's 7.5 contract and 2 seasons left on it he would be stuck with it. One year is much more appetizing to teams.

I see it as a possible ploy. It might seem like Carolina and Arizona have the upper hand in the deal but both teams would be unaffected by taking his contract for one season and would give up a chance at a free high end prospect if they try to hold Holland over the barrel too much.

Honestly, if it was Carolina and we only had to give up Pulks or Jurco then they are doing us a favor. Chicago had to give them Teuvo just to take Bickell who has a lower cap hit than Datsyuk.

There is no way they would announce any sort of trade of his contract this weekend. This is Pav's ride into the sunset.

They don't need to eat his contract. They will trade it in the next couple of days.

That's a pretty good cap his for the Ducks. I'd have taken him at that price any day.

Lidstrom was harder for me because I believe he still had 2-3 more solid years in him. Datsyuk has nagging injuries and lost a step this season so if he doesn't go now, he will miss his chance. Wish him the best over there.

I agree that Datsyuk's contract will likely be gone in a couple of days. Something I hadn't considered is if it's traded, Holland basically forces his own hand and has to make a big move this offseason to make that trade worth it. If he traded Datsyuk's contract and Pulks and then struck out in free agency he would be crucified.

Am I the only one who wants Stamkos to go anywhere but Toronto? Obviously I think their plan all along was to trade away salary, tank it for the 1st pick, and then go after a guy like Stamkos in his prime. I hope the cap going up either means Tampa re-signs him or the wings can open up their wallets now.

I've never been a fan of trading away guaranteed starters for a high draft pick that isn't a guarantee. Not the roll of the dice this team needs.

Not on Stamkos' level no. But if we could swing a trade for Trouba and sign Okposo or a similar forward, that Imo would be better than signing Stamkos. This team isn't one player from a cup unfortunately.

As much as I want Stamkos, these bottom feeder teams like Toronto are going to offer insane contracts to him and I don't know if we should be breaking the bank on one player. Part of me wants him but part of me would rather go after a top defensman and a upgrade at forward in free agency or trade instead.

3.3 mill cap raise would be huge in an offseason as big as this one is for the wings. Now Kenny needs to stop kicking tires and take the car for a spin like old times.

Saw that the Wings are meeting with Datsyuk tonight and will prolly make the announcement if he is officially leaving for Russia sometime tomorrow. Then I hope they move quickly to trade Datsyuk's contract. As much disappointment Holland has given us the last few off seasons, I do have some hope this year. Usually all the rumor mills say things like "Holland doesn't want to make a move unless it really improves the team" and "he isn't likely to make a big splash." This year we seem to be in the conversation for any big name out there and I think he is going to actually be aggressive and roll the dice for once. But Holland has hurt me before. He has hurt me before....

Yea we won 4 cups with having a largely veteran core. Datsyuk, Z, and Kronwall just hit the proverbial wall this year.

Not a bad cap hit. Hard to compare this to previous RFA contracts because the cap and contract prices have gone up steadily the past few seasons. I think this contract is about right.

If that happened then Prongers last team would be the Wings. So he could technically retire a Wing. I don't think anyone would have imagined Pronger anywhere near the wings organization. 😂

I think it's more likely we trade Datsyuk and Jurco to Arizona and get back a cheap prospect. I think they would want to keep Pulks because of his great shot.

When I complain about the name for the next 30 years I want to at least say I did something to try to stop it. No matter how small it may have been. It's a long shot but weirder things have happened in this world.
