Yea I read an article that Boyle signed with NY not because he didn't like the other teams that were after him but because he truly wanted to play in NY. Niskanen wanted to play with Orpik in Wash. Robidas said he chose Toronto because he has family in Toronto. Stralman would have signed here but asked for us to add on one more year and Holland said no. So I think it was just odd circumstances that people didn't sign here and not this huge conspiracy that people don't want to play for the Wings or Babcock. But anyway back to Mantha. The longer we keep him in Grand Rapids the better chance he has of stepping into the NHL and being an impact player right away.

Yea this is what makes the Mantha situation so unique. I can't remember there being this much excitement over a prospect before. Datsyuk and Zetterberg were still relatively unknown when they cracked the lineup. Mantha's size, strength, and scoring ability are certainly something to get excited about. Cue the "just cuz he can score in the Q doesn't mean it translates to the NHL" argument.

I think if anything happens it's going to be for Myers. I think it will be Jurco, Pulks, and a 1st. Or Myers and some hack prospect for Jurco, Pulks, Kindl, and a first. I'm not sure if I would want that to happen though.

I think it's very important that this kid gets handed nothing. He needs to earn his spot. I think he needs to start on the 3rd line in GR and prove he can be in the top 6. Then prove he is capable of getting a call up. When he gets called up, he needs to start on the fourth line. The kid has been a hot shot his whole life and although I think he has a great attitude so far, I don't want him handed a spot and turn into a loafing Franzen that is good only when he wants to be.

Holland trusts Blashill's opinion about when the kids are ready. He will start in GR and I think best case scenario is he plays a couple NHL games this season. I may have to watch more GR games this year.

Well if a trade happens you can bet Sheahan or Jurco are gone. I'd rather see what our younger guys can do and wait and go after UFA's again next year. One defenseman doesn't suddenly thrust us in Stanley Cup talks...let's be serious.

I read on NHLTradeRumors that St Louis may be interested in Petry and maybe sending Berglund back. We don't have assets like Berglund that I'm willing to trade.

The article I read say they could be trading him for a pick. I would give up a 2nd rounder for him. He is only 26. He has come close to the 30 point mark 3 times in his career and 2 seasons ago had 29 points in 45 games. He isn't quite as good as Niskanen but he isn't too bad for his cap hit.
