Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread
Datsyukian-Deke replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Here is the recent history of our 2nd round picks when we look at trading some of them to move up. Granted out of all the players in the list, only Ferraro and Jurco were drafted in the early 2nd round where we will be drafting this year. But gives you some comparison of the level of player we would be giving up to move up. 2017- Lindstrom 2016- Givani Smith and Hronek 2015- None 2014- None 2013- Nastasiuk and Tyler Bertuzzi 2012- Martin Frk 2011- Jurco, Ouellet, Sproul 2010- Jarnkrok 2009- Ferraro, Tatar 2008- None -

I’m optimistic about Rasmussen like Alot on here, but one good playoff run in juniors doesn’t mean he is going to be a great NHL player. Jury is still out of course. But because the Wings drafted Rasmussen, no reason to draft a similar type player the next year in Tkachuk. -

In order to have that flashy defenseman that can jump up in the play, you need a solid stay at home defenseman that will cover for him, which the wings don’t really have either. So either way drafting Bouchard or Boqvist we are getting something the wings desperately need. I lean Bouchard myself because Bouchard is the more defensive defenseman and boqvist is the better offensive player but I think bouchards offensive capabilities are stronger than boqvists defensive capabilities if that makes sense. -
I’ve seen a million mock drafts and it’s all over the board who the best fit D-man would be for the Wings at 6. Who do you guys like most out of Boqvist, Bouchard, Hughes, and Dobson? I was leaning Boqvist until I read about concussion concerns but now I’d prefer Bouchard myself. Id want us to draft the D-men in this order of availability: 1) Bouchard 2) Boqvist 3) Hughes 4) Dobson

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Hard to develop young defensemen when there are no veteran defensemen on the team. Kronwall will likely be LTIR and that leaves Ericsson and Deke as our veterans when we trade away Green this year. Yuck. -
Been liking what I've heard about cholowski so far. That was a swing for the fences pick by Detroit. Either he is gonna be a major bust or a major steal. Hoping for the latter.
-
2 years to prove himself at a decent cap it. I like it. After 2 years some other guys should be ready and if he isn't cutting send him packing.

Red Wings sign D Trevor Daley to 3 year, 3.166m/yr contract, includes NTC/Modified NTC.

I'm ok with it. Our veteran defenseman after this season would be Ericsson and Dekeyser. Everyone ok with those two being the leading example of our young defensemen? 3 mill is not bad at all. -
3 years at 3.1 mill per isn't terrible for Daley. Kronwall won't last this season and we are losing Green at the deadline. Dekeyser and Ericsson would be our veterans at the point. We needed someone to lead the defense.

Twitter reporting its pretty much a done deal. Daley to Detroit and Girardi to Tampa https://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2017/6/29/15893020/red-wings-contenders-free-agent-defenseman-trevor-daley-nhl-ken-holland-pittsburgh-penguins-detroit

Yes! 8 years ago....

Yea Holland was the top GM in the league before the cap era because top players showed up at his doorstep ready to take pay cuts to be on the Wings. The salary cap exposed him as a weak "play it safe" GM that doesn't know how to shake things up.
-
5 years ago I would have agreed with you. Now I'm expecting a 7 year 35 million dollar deal for Trevor Daley from Holland.
-
Read that the Wings want a veteran defenseman to bridge the gap between our 9 defense draft picks the last 2 years and when they can play. I'd rather just tank for those years than get stuck with another bad contract. No to Daley or any of those guys unless it's 1-2 years.
-
I'll give the Wing the benefit of the doubt for now. It's all best guess. The wings look for certain qualities in the players they draft. I'll trust they saw something in these kids. In 5 years we can all revisit and complain then. For now its matter of opinion.
-
Sounds like a reach. Really hope they see something in this kid. The Wings are notorious for reaches. But a lot of them pay off.

5 years before Carolina gets him on waivers
-
Holland yet again making a safe pick. Rasmussen mediocre offense and defensively. Good at Alot of things but not great at anything.
-
Lolololol. Nice job Holland
-
Vilardi is a slam dunk. Let's watch Holland screw this up shall we.

Come on mittelstadt or Vilardi!

Round one of the 2017 NHL draft is tonight at 7 PM eastern. Have a feeling we are going to be seeing a ton of movement this year. Already a lot of whispers of teams moving up.

Heard some rumors of Vegas trying to make a trade with Philly for 3rd pick then moving that pick for the top pick
