I'm sure they would prefer not trading to Chicago or Anaheim if they could avoid it since they would face him a ton each season. It would make sense that they would prefer to go East but then again it comes down to what Kesler wants. -
I agree yandle has been the better player but he is a left handed shot and although we get better, it's not exactly what we need. Tyler Myers would be a better fit and prolly cheaper.

Been reading the Vancouver Canucks blog site and not one person is mentioning Detroit and Kesler. It's all about the Chicago Blackhawks. I think that's where he will end up IMO. -

Bergland signed an extension in St. Louis. A lot of speculation he could be the one traded for Spezza or Kesler but looks like he is staying put. -

From what I read Babs said it's dependent on if his back is good enough. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a couple months to sign Alfie. -
When Holland became satisfied with making us a first round exit team. People wanted to come to Detroit because we were committed to winning championship every year. Since the Salary cap era, Holland and Illitch can't monopolize the league anymore.

Crazy to think Niskanen was a thrown in player in the James Neal Goligoski deal. Gotta be one of the worst trades in Dallas history.

According to this we are so in favor of Niskanen that we are prepared to offer him a 7 year deal. http://msn.foxsports.com/detroit/story/red-wings-target-defenseman-matt-niskanen-062614 Two things can happen. We sign him to a long term deal and get stuck with him if he doesn't pan out Or He reaches his true potential and we get him for a good cap hit and don't have to worry about giving him a raise for 7 years.

This is where having Nick Lidstrom in the area would really benefit. Hearing from one of the greatest defenseman of all time would go a long way.

The NHL will honor their elite at the NHL Awards Show tonight in Las Vegas. It will air on NBCSN at 7 PM Eastern. Hopefully Babcock wins the Jack Adams. I would have rather Kenny traded him to a team where he would get an immediate chance to play instead of letting him walk. He had a great season with the Griffins last year with 31 points and you get nothing out of it.

Good signing for Yzerman. Callahan is a hell of a player. -
Although you are right and Weber is the better defenseman, they don't give the award to the leagues best defenseman but the leagues best scoring defenseman. If they gave it to the truly best defenseman each year then Lidstrom would have won the award like 20 times.

I hope we get more than that if we trade our first pick. Remember last year our pick wasn't as high and we traded it for another first round pick and a second round pick.
