2017 ECSF Washington Caps vs. Pittsburgh Pens
Datsyukian-Deke replied to Datsyukian-Deke's topic in General
No Crosby No Sheary No Letang No Murray If Washington doesn't storm back and take this series they will never beat Pittsburgh in a playoff series. The stars can't align any better than that. -
Red Wings drop 2 spots, will pick 9th in NHL Draft
Datsyukian-Deke replied to brett's topic in General
In other words it's anyone's guess who we take, or any other teams in the top 10 for that matter. And just when we think we have it figured out, the wings will trade the pick. -
If Lidstrom recommended for me to take a kick to the nuts, I'd strongly consider it.

Sad to see Crosby with a concussion as much as I hate him. Could see his career being cut short at some point. -
Why are you guys arguing about whether we should take a center or defenseman? You guys know there is more than one round right? Take the best available player and then address the other position in the 2nd round or the 3rd when we have four 3rd rounders.

So far everyone on the capitals side, the media, NHL analysts, and basically anybody with a brain say It wasn't a malicious hit. But to the Penguins and their fans, Niskanen should never play hockey again, he should pay for Crosby's kids college tuition, the Caps should forfeit the rest of the series, and be forced to give Alex Ovechkin to Las Vegas. I think I summed up their reaction. -

No update tonight on Crosby it seems. -

No way that should have been a game misconduct. Crosby was going down. That's the only reason contact to the head was made. That being said if Crosby is out the rest of the playoffs and the Pens don't win it all this rivalry might have just reached Wings/Av's status. -
Red Wings drop 2 spots, will pick 9th in NHL Draft

Welcome to LGW! I'm not a huge fan of Petterson or Necas either. I see them more in the 10-20 range. Not top 10. -

I personally don't want Glass. He has a lot of size but I don't think he has the skill to be a top line guy in the NHL. Merely my opinion but I see him as more a solid 3rd line player. -

Yea I was disappointed yesterday in the results but I'm not angry. If we make a selection I don't see a big talent drop from 4-10. I still think knowing Holland he trades back to somewhere in the 10-20 range. He loves to acquire extra picks and with such a murky draft I can see our scouts valuing a player in the 10-20 range as much as who we could select 9th overall. -
I agree they aren't the best source but they voiced some of the same thoughts I had about Liljegren. The bout with Mono really set him back this year. It's hard to miss that much time and then come back strong afterward. I personally think he would be a great pick at #9. He has great vision, moves the puck well and can QB a PP. Something the Wings need.

Yea even last year in a strong draft year only 4 players played meaningful minutes in the regular season this year: Matthews, Laine, Tkachuk, and Chychrun.

Red Wings drop 2 spots, will pick 9th in NHL Draft
Datsyukian-Deke replied to brett's topic in General
Yea my point is I think the Wings will still have a solid chance at a Tippett and especially Liljegren. I found 5 different mocks that were put out since the lottery last night and it's so crazy to me how different they all are. I can't remember a draft that had this much uncertainty at least going into the draft. We all know there are surprises on draft day. But people can't even agree who will be #1. -

This is interesting. The one good thing about the draft this year is no one can agree on where people should be drafted. So we may have someone we want fall to us. In this mock we best be taking Tippett if he is still there at #9. -
I look at the list and see 7 solid NHL players(not super stars but guys who could def help the Wings), 2 young promising players, and one bust in Cowen. Although Cowen was a huge reach when he was drafted 9th so that was sort of expected.

Why would the players want to play hard and risk injury? -

Ok so I'm not really one of those "conspiracy theory" guys. But if I were the league and I wanted to send a message to teams that may appear to have tanked (Cough Vancouver cough) I would make sure none of the bottom 3 teams were picking in the top 3 picks to show that just because you are the worst, it doesn't guarantee you will get a top 3 pick. Then I would take someone from the 10-15 range and move them all the way up to show that with the draft lottery anything is possible so you might as well try to win till the final whistle cuz it doesn't matter where you end up. Hmmm. -

The talent is there no question. The reason he isn't top 5 is his size. Not that that is an end all in the NHL cuz there have been many success stories with small forwards, but size is becoming more of a premium. -

Trying to find the silver lining here. Maybe with falling to 9, we won't get anyone that is going to save the franchise in the upcoming season. Which means we will be back in the same place next year with a much deeper draft. If we pull a Philly and get lucky next year it will be a blessing. I like Suzuki but not at 9. If we traded back to 10-15 and drafted him and got an addtional pick then I would be very very happy with it. -

The best we can hope for imo is Liljegren at 9 or trade back to 10-20 and acquire at least an additional 2018 2nd rounder. -

What a total buzz kill. I'm glad Vancouver didn't get in the top 3. They flat gave up the last 10-15 games. -
