Is the right hockey move to trade Jonathan Toews?
Datsyukian-Deke replied to kliq's topic in General
Both he and Kane were up for new contracts and they couldn't pay one more than the other at the team. It would have created a rift. So I understand why they did it. But it def has turned out to be over payment for Toews. Although he does things on both sides of the ice. It's not all about points for Toews. -

No one would take that contract unless Chicago takes a bunch back, which would defeat the purpose. So we can just keep watching them sputter in the playoffs for the forseable future. -
2017 WCQF: Nashville Predators vs. Chicago Blackhawks

I'm dying -
He had a bout of Mono which really put a dent in his season. So his stock has fallen. I see that as a possible good thing for us most likely drafting 7-10. I think he is a steal there and more NHL ready than Makar is.

From what I've read is Rasmussen is good in a lot of areas but not great in much of anything. We need a difference maker. We need a player with a great shot and a nose for the net. I'd love Tippett or Suzuki if we are in the back half of the top 10. I really like what I've seen from Tippett. He has a shot like Pulkinnen but he is strong in other areas of his game as well unlike pulkinnen.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams
Datsyukian-Deke replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
I wouldn't mind Radulov on a 1 year deal but Holland needs to avoid signing any free agents to long term deals until we have some young super star players to build around via the draft. He already made that mistake with Nielsen. -
We ended up 6th from dead last. When factoring in Las Vegas we have roughly a 1 in 5 chance of a top 3 pick.

I agree it's not the best year for defenseman in the 1st round but I think it depends where you draft. If we are top 5 I'm staying away from a D-man but if we are somewhere 6-10 I think Liljegren is great value there. If I'm 15+ then Makar would be great value. But def don't reach for a defenseman in the first round.

Really glad Svechnikov started his career off on a positive note. Hope that gives him some confidence going forward.

Been patiently waiting to see this kid in a Wings jersey! Finally!
-
Well we pretty much locked ourselves out of the top 5. Unless something drastic happens. I would almost rather us trade back for a 2018 first rounder where the draft will be much deeper. But depends where we end up. Tippett would fill a need of a sniper type player that puts everything he can on net. Similar to what we thought we had with Pulks but Tippett is more than just a great shot, which turned out to be all the Pulks had.

Gonna be the first time that I was old enough to remember hockey that I don't see Red Wing playoff hockey. Talk about an empty feeling. Would have liked to see the last game played at the Joe be a playoff game. Here's to the next streak!

Happy Turtle Day everyone!

There are not a lot, if any, that probably make anyone's team this coming season outside of Patrick, Hischier, and perhaps Vilardi. Even that is suspect. When I hear it's a "weak draft" to me that means no generational players and very few players that are ready to jump into NHL action right away. I think either way we look at it the player we draft sees one more year of amateur hockey before coming to the show unless we get lucky in the lottery.
-
I think we imagined him scoring more then 33 points and being a -17 when we forked out 6 mill a year. That's what I meant by that. He has been the best blue liner for us but I think we expected a little more of a return from him.
-
Mike Green did. He was the big fish in the defenseman market and the summer Babcock left we finally got a big free agent. Granted Mike Green hasn't worked out quite like we wanted but you can't argue he wasn't highly sought after that summer.
-
I think Chelios was referring to the real big fish not wanting to come to Detroit like Parise, Suter, Boyle, Niskanen etc.
-
What are your guys thoughts on Michael Rasmussen? I've seen a lot of mocks with him going to Detroit and with Detroit playing better than most of the other bottom feeders lately I see us picking 5-10 somewhere which is where I think Rasmussen goes.

Why would Pittsburgh ever need an enforcer when they have Bettman.

Here is a pretty good read about the effect it's had on the 2016-2017 Red Wings without Pavel Datsyuk on the roster. http://wingsnation.com/2017/3/4/what-if-datsyuk-didn-t-retire-early

There Will Be Blood - Kris Draper
Datsyukian-Deke replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
If March 26th isn't a holiday to you, you aren't a Red Wings fan. #TurtleDay #SweetRevenge My favorite part of the fight besides Mac dropping him with the first punch was him dragging him to the bench and then kneeing him in the face repeatedly. That was when hockey was hockey. They let him continue to play the game and be the OT hero. Nowadays it would have probably been a 10 game suspension. -
Yea this is my biggest knock on Middlestadt. Out of all the forwards projected in the top 7, he is the least NHL ready. I'd rather have a guy that is closer to helping us in the near future instead of another huge project.
