Starting to see more mock drafts having Cole Eiserman available at 15. I love this dude. Has Matthew Tkachuk written all over him. Super competitive, fiery, can score from anywhere and doesn't like to lose. The knock on him is that he play an undisciplined and unrefined game. So what? If he's available at 15 I think you take him all day long if you're Detroit.

Anybody know much about Dylan Demelo for the Jets? RHD, played on their top pair, defends well, and is a free agent. Also from London Ontario and playing in s***hole Winnipeg. Sounds like a possible Edvinsson partner to me, or am I missing anything?

Isnt Elick just a carbon copy of Brady Cleveland?
-
It was definitely a set play, executed by two of the best players in the world (Lindholm and Pastrnak). But that's kinda the deal with the Leafs isn't it? A good team might get burned on a play like that, a great team shuts it down. It's Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. If you don't know where David Pastrnak is at all times then you're going to get burned eventually.

Sooooo….Nate Danielson hulking out is a positive turn of events eh?

CHL players can play in the AHL on an amateur try out contract after their CHL season is complete. But if they’ve still got CHL eligibility they have to go back to the CHL (or NHL) the following year and can’t play in the AHL. There are a few caveats to this: -if a player is on loan to the CHL from Europe (Zadina) then they don’t have the same restrictions. - if a player turns 20 before a certain date (Danielson) they only have to play their D+1 year in the CHL but don’t have to go back the 2nd year.

Shanahan probably is on the hot seat, but he shouldn't be. He's not the reason the team sucks, that's the GM. Shanny has been through three different GMs (Lou, Dubas, Treleving) and largely gave the leeway to shape the team how they chose. He's not the guy that puts a roster together. The guys who ARE responsible for that have consistently failed to recognize that having four excellent offensive players means jack squat if you can't defend. They can keep rearranging deck chairs all they want, but until they trade a high end forward for defensive help it doesn't matter who their President, GM, or coach is.
-
They should trade Marner for help in defense, strip Tavares of the “C”, and then re-sign Tavares at 5.5 mil after his deal expires next season. You’d get help on defense, send a message to the remaining roster, and get short and long term cap relief.

Lots wrong with that play. Rempe's hit was probably not illegal...but it was most definitely predatory. Most guys don't follow through on a hit like that because they're not trying to actually injure guys. That said, TVR needs to not admire his pass. Rempe is huge and barreling down on him and TVR is completely unaware because he's watching his pass. Playoff hockey for you.

Read up on Andrew Gibson, he's going to be a good one and I think he's probably one of the defense prospects most fans are sleeping on. Good defensively, booming shot, and very aggressive. I really think he's going to surprise people.

Just be patient, you'll get to see a lot more Berggren goals starting in October.
-
Rockford's goalie was a wall last night too. Hell of a shot by a guy I hope starts using his shot more. Lombardi is going to be a really good player if he can add some strength and start playing more aggressively. He defers a lot, which may be due to the fact that he's a rookie. Once he realizes he can dictate what happens on the ice he's really going to pop. Kasper had a strong night too. No points, but was a wearing Rockford's defensemen out on the forecheck and ultimately drew a penalty that got GR on the board.
-
Three point night for Nate Danielson and a sweet goal by Lombardi to send the Griffs to overtime (which they won). Look for the Griffins highlight package tomorrow because Lombardi's goal was an absolute snipe.
-
Down the stretch it seemed like every game we'd get pinned in our zone and we'd be chasing the puck and scrambling and it was Kane's line on the ice every single time. The dude's a detriment at even strength and while I had a lot of fun watching him I'm happy if he's moving on. I don't expect him to play "defense" per se, but he doesn't even try to win puck battles and that can't happen in the top six.
-
Maybe, as long as the ask wasn't anything significant. He'd essentially fill the role that Perron does (2nd/3rd line complimentary winger). But so does Fabbri, and he's already on the team. You've got Mazur who could probably fill that role as well. I just don't see a ton of value in it personally. At forward I'm really only interested in Sharangovich.
-
If you go back and look you'll see that I've been a big fan of Reilly Smith for a long time. But his best days are behind him and his contract is pretty rough. We need a few wingers LIKE Reilly Smith, but I'd pass on the actual Reilly Smith.
-
Johansson would have to clear waivers to play in GR next season and he almost certainly wouldn’t. Yzerman more or less said during his presser that Johansson would be in the NHL next year but his role would be dependent on how he plays.
-
I forgot about Larkin’s wife losing her baby. When the reporters asked about his year he almost broke down. He’s in a lot of pain and I genuinely hope he gets help and works through it. That was tough to watch.
-
I think he's fine in the AHL next year, but I'd caution everyone that he's probably not going to look like a superstar. Since scoring from the SHL to the AHL is roughly consistent we have an idea how his offense will translate. So he'll probably score a lot. But he's not ready to score and defend against top end players. Certainly not at even strength. He'll need time in the AHL to learn how to do that. It's very clear by the way that Wings handled Edvinsson that they want guys to play a full game before they get NHL time. ASP isn't there yet.
-
Did I say we should play Petry INSTEAD of ASP? Nope. I've openly called for us to pursue guys like Matt Roy and Brett Pesce to SPECIFICALLY fill the 2nd pair RHD spot. So pipe down cufflink.
-
Cossa vs Wallstedt going to the shootout tonight Aaaaand Cossa out duels Wallstedt…again Mazur, Lombardi, and ASP all need to gain strength. Most of the other top end prospects already have bigger frames than Lucas did.
-
I think y’all need to pump the breaks on ASP. Aside from the fact that he hasn’t played on small ice he also wasn’t a dominant SHL defenseman. He had elite production for is age because he was the trigger man on the powerplay. He was pretty sheltered at even strength and wasn’t even the powerplay QB for his team. He just has a really wicked shot but he’s far from a complete enough defender to play in the NHL anytime soon.
-
Marco Kasper is an absolute bully and I love it. Also, Lombardi is going to be a player. He just needs to get stronger. He’s really slick and really tenacious.
-
No thanks on the play in game. I don't really think any of Detroit, Washington, Philly, or Pittsburgh really deserved to make it considering how bad they all were down the stretch. It sucks that we missed out, but I'm more bummed that we didn't continue to play at the consistently high level we played at for most of the year. I like the parity, but I'd have rather seen a tight race between all those teams because they were all winning most night...not because they were all losing most nights.

Cayden Lindstrom would be my ideal scenario draft pick but I think he's off the board by the time we draft. Kid is absolutely everything we need. Big, strong, fast, skilled, mean center. Yes please.
