So, despite the fact that I say he's good. You keep telling me that I really think he's bad. Right. Because clearly it's impossible to be critical of someone AND think that overall they're good at their job. For the millionth time. Here are my thoughts on Babcock. 1. He's not the best coach in the NHL. He's top five. 2. He's not the best coach for our team. From now on, when I voice those opinions, and you put words in my mouth to the affect of "Babcock sucks", I'll report your posts.
-
Now you're misrepresenting my argument AND attacking me personally. Good job Harold. Hard to imagine why you've been gone so long. Neither I, nor anybody else, EVER called Babcock a bad coach. Get over it.
-
Oh great, Landon to the rescue. Can't wait for him to be small and weak all over everybody's asses.
-
I don't think anybody EVER said Babcock was a bad coach. It's just a straw man argument that guys like you use to defend him whenever he's criticized. Because if we don't think he's the best coach in hockey, then we must automatically think he's bad. Of course.
-
Why should Howard feel any differently than his coach does on the matter. Babs doesn't care about, or emphasize, getting shootout wins. So why should the team?
-
Dude, you're wasting your time. The only acceptable position to have on the matter is that "Babcock is the best coach eva!" because everybody else coaches superstar teams, and he coaches losers. You have to forget that he only has one Cup, and that the team that won it was full of superstars.

GDT 4/5 GDT : Washington Capitals 2 at Red Wings 1

He's an on the edge type of player so that doesn't surprise me. I like Wilson though. I see a lot of Caps games because I live down here, and they've got a handful of players I really like. -

Jesus, I just watched the highlights. Tom Wilson had a rough game eh? Zidlicky wiped him out with a low(ish) hit and then he blocked Dekeyser's slapshot with the back of his neck. Yeesh! The goals against weren't terrible. The first one is flukey, and the second one is just sort of what Ovechkin and Green do. And they're REALLY good at it. -

What happened here? I didn't get to see yesterday's game. Looks like Trotz continued to be Babcock's kryptonite or no? -
Good for Happy. Guy was always a good player. I don't miss him for a second, but I'm always happy when former Wings find success elsewhere.
-
Larkin and AA are our top two center prospects. I doubt they'll move one of them to the wing.
-
And Jimmy Howard. Duh.
-
When did Kyle Quincey become a badass? He's got a bitchin' beard and he hits everything all of a sudden.
-
Well his track record seems to suggest that with more ice time, he scores more. For our team, and for Florida. So I think it's at least a reasonable option. And it's not like we're playing so well that we should just keep doing what we're doing. It's probably worth considering a change when you've very nearly played yourself out of a playoff spot.
-
Unless you'd like more even strength scoring.
-
Only 8 of his 24 points came on the PP. So it's not like that's inflating his stats. He scores 5 on 5 despite not spending a lot of time there. Which was my point. And I think it's relevant considering our team is awful at scoring 5 on 5.
-
I'd argue that he absolutely DOES put up enough points. Again, he's on a 40 points pace despite playing 9 minutes a night at even strength. That's not too shabby. Plus, we've got a team full of "defensive forwards", I've heard about Babs' shot suppression system until I want to puke, and we still lose games because we can't score 5 on 5. I don't think it would kill us to put guys in positions to make plays. But your points are taken. Offense is an ancillary part of Babcock's game plan, and so a more offensive guy has less value...until he's Teemu Pulkkinen. .
-
He's the Keyser Soze of the Detroit Red Wings.
-
Weiss is scoring at a 40+ point pace, despite playing fewer 5 on 5 minutes than anybody (except Cleary) on the team. Too bad he hasn't "earned" more icetime.
-
Hey look, Weiss creating more offense. What do you know?
-
Yikes! Tatar with a brutal turnover.
-
I wonder what it would look like to see Detroit has some sustained offensive pressure. Seriously, what does that look like?
-
Ok, it's definitely not cool for people to question your "fanhood". But be honest, you do realize that you're a little bipolar when it comes to the Red Wings right? When we're losing, you're up everyone's ass with posts like the one above. And when we're winning you constantly reference how you've always known they could do it. Lets just all agree that you're impassioned, and leave it at that.

Good story. Too bad it isn't even remotely true. Zetterberg didn't "put this team on his back and will them into the playoffs last year. He didn't play a single game between February 8th and our first round playoff series on April 24th. Nyquist put the team on his back a year ago, scoring 13 goals and 8 assists in March and April. Not Zetterberg, who only played 45 games last year, none of which were in the second half of the season when we were fighting to make the playoffs. Nevertheless, I agree with your larger point. Which is that there's nothing wrong with the team leadership.
