So Edmonton is the new Minnesota. You heard it here first.
-
Now there's a spicy take.
-
So unless you have a superstar center and goalie you're the new Minnesota?
-
I agree. And since you said they'd be "asking for Ed + 1st" what do you think they'd get?
-
So you're amending your original statement to suggest that we're the new Minnesota because we don't have a superstar center, not that we don't have superstars generally?
-
Your logic baffles me. If the "asking" price is a player already in the NHL why would they ask us for a player not in the NHL? Wouldn't they just not ask us at all if that really is the asking price?
-
Not sure I agree. Kane and Seider both seem like superstars to me.
-
Why would you conclude that? Edvinsson isn't already in the NHL.
-
No way, we're about to go get Buchnevich and Gudas. Watch.

If the Leafs HAVE to make noise in the playoffs I'm glad it will be under Brad Treliving and not Kyle Dubas. Who knew that what the Leafs needed was defense and not more scoring forwards and Ryan Reeves? -
I'll say this about Scott Wheeler's attempt, and it might address your comment here. I don't think he really knows what he wants to do with his "prospect pool" articles. Is the idea to tell fans how players are progressing? Is it to introduce them to new prospects? Is it to tell them about players in leagues that might not have access to? I watch A LOT of hockey. But even then, I'm limited to the NHL and AHL. The rest I have to follow online through box scores and articles. So there's a niche for Wheeler, but he doesn't take it. Instead of telling me the same things about Cossa you said when he was drafted, tell me about Andrew Gibson, Dmitry Buchelnikov, Emmitt Finnie. Sure those guys aren't Edvinsson, ASP, and Kasper but most fans are already pretty familiar with the top prospects (if only because they get the most press on draft day and right after). The feather in Wheeler's cap seems to be that he talks about a million prospects but that doesn't really mean much if you're not saying anything important about them to the fans. If I were Wheeler I wouldn't bother "ranking" anyone. And I wouldn't bother with the top 15 prospects on each team. I'd do a series of articles on the 5-7 most intriguing prospects on each team. Tell me why Tre Augustine dominates despite not have a pro sized frame for a goalie. Tell me why Emmitt Finnie isn't getting the same "best player on a terrible team" excuses that Nate Danielson got. Tell me whether Buchelnikov's KHL impact has a good chance of translating to North America. Tell me why everyone who sees him gushes over Albert Johansson but his counting stats look pedestrian. That stuff is interesting.

Well you've got Henry Fonda as RHD, James Cagney at 2C, and Gregory Peck in net.

Sorry guys, I didn't realize that making fun of the Islanders for looking like the cast of "12 Angry Men" is the equivalent of giving them the Infinity Gauntlet. Gostisbehere really trying to turn up the dial on that next contract eh?
-
I guess I should shut up about Brock Nelson. Yeesh.
-
Brock Nelson looks exactly like George Bailey from "It's a Wonderful Life" and that tells you everything you need to know about how exciting Islanders hockey is. "What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the Cup? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it over. Hey. That's a pretty good idea. I'll give you the Cup, Mary." Now THAT'S what a star hockey player looks like. KANE!!!!

Yall ready for some Islanders hockeeeeey?!?!!?! WOOOOOO!!!!! Yall ready for some razzle dazzle?!?!?!?! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Ain't no razzle dazzle like some Anders Lee razzle dazzle!!! WOOOOO!!!! Now give it up for the heart and soul of this great team, All-Star captain and Islanders legend BROCK NELSON!!! AHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Hard to say what the game will look like tonight, the Isles have been giving up A LOT of goals since Roy took over.

Would you agree that between 1995-2005 we had all or most of those things more often than not?
-
My dude, that's like saying a Nissan is better than a Porsche because it's bigger.
-
I was going to say "they all peddle garbage" but I actually like Meijer.
-
What do Little Caesars, Amway, and Priority Waste Management all have in common?
-
I'm about 95% sure you said this a while ago, but why haven't Seattle fans dubbed themselves "Krakheads" yet? I mean, it's sitting right there just waiting for it.

I've followed him a little bit, but not extensively so take it with a grain of salt. He's having a really solid, but not elite year offensively. He's regularly on the score sheet and he sees a lot of minutes. But his numbers don't blow you away like they do with a lot of OHL "offensive defensemen". But then you remember that our organizational philosophy is basically "draft toolsie guys that can play defense and the offense will come", and he starts to get a lot more exciting. He's a top end defender, in a 6'3 200 lbs body and DOES defend well. He rarely gets scored on in a notoriously offensive league AND he puts up points. TLDR: He's another workhorse defenseman that we're all going to love in a year or two. He's basically the right handed Shai Buium. Edit: Actually, right handed Jake Walman is probably a better fit because Gibson is pretty feisty and a lot of his offense comes from the fact that he can absolutely fire the puck.

If you included them on the list I'd say Berggren is our 2nd best prospect and Aljo is probably in the 7-10 range. So, yes.
