Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
kipwinger replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I'd still not make that trade. I don't care about Mule, Smith, Backman's rights, or the 2nd. I just think Myers is horrible. I wouldn't spend almost anything on him. He's a #1 defenseman who's not great offensively...or defensively. He makes bad decisions, and he's "got good mobility"...but only in straight lines. He has no lateral mobility at all, so he's too slow to man the point on our powerplay. AND he's got the worst corsi relative rating in the league. Add to that the fact that almost everyone plays worse under Babcock than they do elsewhere, and it's a recipe for disaster. You think he's going to improve his production under Babs? He's trash...very expensive trash. Like the Kardashians. -
Haha. I actually love Pierre McGuire. I've said it before. At least he brings something to the table. I'd rather listen to Pierre McGuire than Chris Osgood any night of the week. He just seems like a pleasant, insightful, and engaging dude. The fact that he has a preternatural knowledge of minor league hockey, the world over, is icing on the cake to me. That said, Edzo is a dick.

I'm sure they're not too worried about it. If I recall correctly they've got a pretty good shooter too.
-
Yeah, I like these a little better. Both Weiss and Sheahan should be able to find Pulkkinen in the open. An aside...does anyone else laugh at the thought of Doc Emrick saying "driiiiiiiiiiiive" every time Pulkkinen shoots? If Pulkkinen cranks a really hard slapper I think Doc's head will explode.

I wasn't trying to be insulting. You're just the only other person who actively scoffs at the thought of spending any real assets on Myers. And actually this is the only instance in which I'm ok with talking up Smith. Sure, I think he's terrible, and dumb, and overrated, and ultimately disappointing. But so is Tyler Myers. And he makes 5 million dollars a year because he a "super frickin' huge guy". To me, trading Smith for Myers is a lot like trading Smith for a bigger, slower, more expensive, less offensively productive, version of himself. -

This is the most reasonable post you've ever made. Tyler Myers is ******* terrible. It drives me crazy how overrated the guy is. People go nuts for him because he's A) Huge, B) Not a Red Wing. He's trash. -
Aaaaand Pulkkinen makes it 8 goals in 8 games, or is it 9 in 9? I can't keep track at this point.

The baby duck gif slays me.

The first fine handed out for diving was to James Neal, a notorious diver. Like I said, the league has only given out two so far. They'll get around to the other culprits in due time as long as they keep emphasizing this rule like they are now. I mean, none of us even knew Nyquist had got a warning right? So god knows how many other people have been warned once already.
-
I know. Which is why there aren't any quotation marks in my post. I'm telling you, I think there's a difference in what you described (players get away with as much as they can), and what I saw in the Nyquist video (jumping up and falling down like a girl).

1-0 Griffs. Paetsch

I think there's a pretty big difference between saying all players will get away with as much as they can, and saying all players will trap a guy's stick between their legs, jump straight up in the air, and fall down as if shot.
-
You think Nick, Yzerman, Dats, and Zetterberg would do what Nyquist did in that first video? C'mon?
-
You're forgetting Smith. He's had a couple doozies.
-
Considering they've only handed out like 3 fines so far, I'd say just wait a while. They'll get theirs. Point is, you can rationalize just about anything by saying "we're not the only ones doing it". Doesn't make it any less dirty. It takes ZERO class to dive. If Yzerman didn't do it, and Lidstrom didn't do it, and Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't do it, then our next generation stars and leaders shouldn't do it. Nyquist obviously feels like it's ok to do. He should be broken of that flawed thinking by the coaching staff.
-
By that rationale we should be ok with it if one of our guys cheap shots someone in the head. Ya know, because other people do it too. I'm a proponent of having higher standards than that.
-
I hope Babcock bags his ass to death the first chance he gets. Wear him completely the f*** out for doing it. Twice. Once for each offense. I can't stand seeing this s***, and it's never going to stop until the league seriously addresses it (which I guess they're trying to do), and until players and coaches completely condemn it.
-
In isolation it could go either way. But with the Bruins dive as hindsight I've got to imagine he "lost an edge" on purpose there. He's clearly not above doing such things.
-
Talk about playing heavy. But seriously, he should be ashamed of himself. Hopefully this gets him demoted for a few games. If not, Babcock's full of it too.

Nyquist isn't currently scoring goals AND he's a documented diver. Trade bait! -
How easy is it to find 23 Luke Glendenings?
-
It is that easy. Mike Babcock can coach any team to a Stanley Cup anytime he wants. Why hasn't he? Because Ken Holland is stupid and terrible. So Babs' should go to Pittsburgh and work for Jim Rutherford. Because he's DEFINITELY not stupid and terrible. Which is why he's got all those Stanley Cups.

GDT 1/6 GDT : Red Wings 4 at Edmonton Oilers 2

I think it's hard to tell. I don't think Weiss looked bad, but I thought that line looked bad last night. But then again, I thought the team looked bad last night. Obviously, that line (as well as the team) were better than their respective opposition. But not as convincingly as you'd like to see against the Oilers. I though we looked clunky, not in synch at all. Very slow. Almost no flow to our game. Which was true of that line as well as all the rest. Weiss had a couple real nice passes, and didn't look out of place skating on that line, but I wouldn't read too much into that. A better line, and a better team, would have beaten us badly last night. -

Yeah, they did a bang up job tonight by only barely "not losing" to the worst team in history. The Oilers are only slightly better than District 5, sans Gordon Bombay AND Adam Banks. -

Whelp, glad we won but man what a stinker of a game. If we keep playing like this we're a lock to get into the playoffs...and promptly sent home. The guys need to shape up. Bad.
