Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
kipwinger replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
"I know some (people) were saying that we don't have a shot for a playoff (spot), but I'm surprised you can say it with the big names in this locker room," Tatar said. "If we stay healthy we might actually have a shot at the (Stanley) Cup." How do you not like this guy? -
Agreed, except that I've always like Beauchemin. That dude is a stud. But yes, you're actually flirting with all time douchiness with that bunch. Nearly as bad as Lucic, Marchand, Thornton, Chara, etc. That bunch really takes the cake with regard to their relative levels of douchey douchiness.

You gotta think Helm and Jurco would be the vulnerable ones. As good as Abby's been I'd imagine Babs would drop whichever of those two isn't playing well and get Abby back in the top six.
-
I'd love to say Crosby in Pittsburgh, but it actually makes sense that they play hockey there. Anything California based is going to get my vote for "Most Douchey". Every day of the week. So yeah, Anaheim. God, could you imagine a team with Crosby, Perry, and Selanne for all those years? They'd be insufferable. Strangely though, Kesler seems less douchey in Anaheim than Vancouver. Which, of course, attests to the truly profound level of Vancouver doucheyness.

You would think that Sheahan, Weiss, and Franzen would carve up opposing third lines. But we'll see. I'm also curious to see how the new and improved Zetterberg line will look.

There's a chance, but obviously your chances are greater the worse you are. Any team that misses the playoffs can theoretically get the first overall pick. But you chances are much higher the worse you are because it's a lottery. It's akin to having your name written on a piece of paper and drawn out of a hat, and the worse you are the more pieces of paper with your name get put into the hat. It happened a couple years ago with Colorado when they drafted MacKinnon. They weren't the worst team in the league, but they "won the lottery" nevertheless.

Per Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today's practice lines: Nyquist-Zetterberg-Jurco Tatar-Datsyuk-Helm Franzen-Sheahan-Weiss Miller-Glendening-Andersson Cleary/Abdelkader Franzen on the third line? The mob goes wild!

So why not talk about all of Weiss' potential? You had no problem harping on him and ignoring how great an impact he could "potentially" have on this lineup. Instead you acted like it was the worst signing Holland ever made. If you're all about judging on potential how'd you miss that? Like I said, this is just you trying to justify yourself after the fact. If you were consistent in your analysis of players you'd have to A) give all players (including the ones you don't like) credit for their potential, or B) Judge all players (including the ones you do like) based on their current play. You do neither, and both. You gloss over the shortcomings of players you like, based on their potential benefits, and you harp on players you don't like based on their current play. It's a not so clever way for you to avoid saying anything that could be wrong. People do it all the time. You're not some special case.

Edmonton does not want to win. They want to draft McDavid. They'll change coaches after the season.

Weiss was injured for about as long as Brendan Smith was making boneheaded mistakes in the defensive zone (the lockout season and last season) and I didn't see you "labeling" Smith a turnover machine or f*** up. Why? Because you don't want to think that about Smith. Just like you do want to think that about Weiss. Because you'd rather be right than be accurate. You can say "I've always said I want to be wrong about Weiss" but your entire body of work here on LGW suggests otherwise. Which, I suspect, is why people respond to you the way that they do. I said the same thing you did about Helm's shooting percentage and wasn't called negative. Again, why? I'll tell you why. Packaging. If you don't want to be perceived as negative, then stop presenting your thoughts in a negative way. If you don't care, then why make this thread?

Sure it is. I'm skeptical of any site that doesn't have anything close to professional presentation. It's like somebody giving you a check filled out in crayon. I'm not excepting, regardless of how much you assure me it's legit.

So are hooking and slashing. I'd be just as inclined to tear someone down for glorifying those penalties too.

I'm sure you could show me all sorts of graphs and tables about how awesome McGrattan is if I'd provide you with the construction paper and glue sticks too. That website looks like it was made on MSpaint. And yes, anybody could have put it there. Which is why the internet is FULL of low brow, half assed, crap. It's not exactly exclusive.

Aha. There I go taking life too seriously again. -
I never trust a promise from the Red Menace. I can spot a Chairman Mao sneak attack from a mile away. Shame on you!

Anyone interested in oppressing revolutionaries (except the tax hating kind) pm ME.

See: Wells, H.G.. "There is no frigate like a book...", my friend. Whatever you say Fidel.

But aren't we all slaves, in the Marcusian sense of the word? I mean, think about it.

Oh look, you found a hockey fight website that's more obscure than hockeyfights.com to support your preconceived ideas about McGrattan. That's as cute as McGrattan's hair in the photo below, taken after his very last fight with Colton Orr. Also, for the record. You brought up Orr. Not me. Sigh. Edit: Haha, who made that website you just sent me? Why would you ever put any stock whatsoever into a website so clearly designed by a child? Is your point that some half wit, with a rudimentary web building program, likes McGrattan a whole lot? Who knew the very first website ever put on the internet was about hockey fights? It looks like it is hosted by Geocities lol. http://gizmodo.com/5983574/remember-the-hilarious-horror-of-geocities-with-this-website

My boy? I have a long and very explicit hatred of fighting in hockey. That's well established around here. You're the one who loves fighting, but can't face up to the fact that Colton Orr consistently mashed McGrattan's face whenever they fought. Which is precisely why I bring it up. I have a hard time figuring why you enjoy fighting so much, but then idolize the second best fighter of his era. It's a little bit like if Scottie Pippen was your favorite Chicago Bull in the 90's.

He's perfectly fine defensively. He's no worse than any other puck moving d-man. It's just a tag he got stuck with because he broke into the league when he was like 20, and wasn't great. Since then he's played 20+ minutes a night, on a defense first team, with a defense first coach. It's just like how Franzen can have an almost identical ppg average year to year and be inconsistent, or how "Osgood lets in the occasional floater" 15 years after he let in the occasional floater. It's just something people say because that's what other people say, and they said it because somebody else once said it too. If Yandle played here every single person on this forum would absolutely cream themselves. He's REALLY good. -
No doubt. He'd make Johan Franzen into Mark Messier. Such is the power of McGrattan.
-
Too bad they didn't reacquire Brian McGrattan. They would have punched their way to a Stanley Cup championship by now, am I right?
-
Agreed. The last thing the Oilers want is to start winning right now. Eakins will be their fall guy right after they draft McDavid.
-
There's some lines you just don't cross. Karlsson has WAY too nice a flow to play defense. I know it. Ottawa knows it. And now Paul MacLean knows it.
