Andersson is a stud. He's also a righty, which I think we need more than we need help on the left side. Stylistically he plays a lot like Chiarot tho. He's more offensive minded then you'd think by looking at him. Not sure how those two would fit together. But that would be a good problem to have I suppose. Or just put him with Maata and leave Chia and Petry together as a third pair.

I think it's time Boston put Jack Edwards out to pasture. The man is suffering.

I'm watching the Capitals/Sens game right now and the Caps announcing team can't stop singing the praises of the Red Wings. It's absolutely wild how we've gone from "Detroit is behind Ottawa and Buffalo in their rebuild" to "The Caps better not play loosey goosey against Detroit tomorrow or the Red Wings will make them pay" in less that six months.

Justin Barron for Montreal is another good choice. Rumor has it that the Habs were interested in Berggren as well.

Sprong isn't getting a HUGE payday, despite what everyone thinks. He's had two 20 goal seasons. For comparison's sake, Tomas Tatar signed his biggest contract ever (5.3 million) after putting up four 20+ goal seasons. Sprong will probably make 4ish million bucks on his next deal. I agree with the bolded otherwise.

I don't think he'll get re-signed, unless it's for a really big pay cut. SY has never been afraid to cut loose fan favorite players/locker room leaders for the sake of good business. I mean, he bought out Lecavalier and traded St. Louis. I just don't see him bringing back Perron, regardless of his influence in the room.

Karlsson is an actively bad player. He's also a giant puss. You'd have to have Dubas for brains to think that guy could help you win anything. Imagine Gostisbehere with twice the offense but 10 times worse defense. THAT'S Karlsson. Buyer beware.

If he's planning on re-signing Kane, plus give raises to Raymond and Seider he's going to need to save money elsewhere. To do so he's going to have to do two things, 1) move overpriced vets, and 2) have lots of entry level contracts. That's why I'm starting to think this Berggren situation may end up without a trade. I think it's way more likely that we try to move on from middling guys like Fabbri, Perron, Veleno, Maatta, Holl than it is that we trade a young scorer on an entry level deal for help at the deadline.

Soooooo, before we signed Kane I said something like "we don't need him, is he really any better than Berggren at this point". I was REAAAAAAAALLLLLLYYYYYY wrong about that. Woof. 100% my worst take in the entirety of my LGW tenure. Kane is still so unreal.

Gostisbehere doing his absolute best to get scored on there, eventually succeeds after throwing the puck away three times in one shift.

I was thinking the same thing. We'll see how dialed in the boys are tonight. If they come out and play a great game I'll be feeling really good about the locker room, Lalonde, and the process.

Who do you root for tonight?

Stroke of genius by Gary Bettman. The biggest complaint about sports with long seasons is that there are a bunch of meaningless games in the middle. The playoff chase hasn't begun yet and the enthusiasm of a new season has worn off. In baseball they call it the "dog days". Three point games mean there are no dog days in the NHL. The whole point is to keep games meaningful all season long and it works. I just watched a February game between Toronto and Arizona last week because of the playoff implications for Detroit. Bettman has been playing 3D chess for years. Fans boo him and blame him for things the owners do/want and meanwhile everything they really enjoy about the game is his brainchild. If you like fast paced, high offense, meaningful hockey games there's only one guy to thank for it.

I liked our top six a lot yesterday. If Kane, Debrincat, and Raymond are your other top six wingers then one of Ras or Veleno isn't too much of a problem IMO. I mean, it's not like the team isn't scoring. I really like Guentzel and Buchnevich, but I'm concerned about the price tag. Maybe if we could nab a budget guy like Pacioretty or something. Otherwise I think I've talked myself into just adding a depth center and flexing Veleno to the wing (or even someone Wennberg to the wing for that matter). I've been a big fan of Andersson for a year or so now, and I absolutely DO think they'll trade him. Calgary is about to move into a rebuild and he's too old to be part of their next core. But it's a tricky situation to handle. Because he's under contract they can trade him at any of the next three deadlines. They'll get a higher return the earlier they trade him, but if they're only willing to move him at the deadline (instead of the offseason) there's really only a handful of teams that could acquire him and the returns will be muted (late first rounders at best). I think it makes more sense to trade him in the offseason when more teams will be interested, and if you move him to a team on the uptick (like Ottawa with Chychrun) you're likely to get a better first round pick than what a playoff team would give you. As for Lyon, I agree this is also tricky. We seem to have caught lightening in a bottle here. He's not the best goalie in the world, but he's the right guy for our team right now. And our team is REALLY coming together and playing for each other. I wouldn't want to mess that up by bringing in a starter. I like the idea of a backup but then we'd have 4 goalies. We can easily waive Reimer, but we'd have to put Husso on LTIR for the remainder of the regular season. Otherwise we'd have A LOT of our cap wrapped up in goalies. I'd almost rather just go with Lyon and Reimer, give Husso plenty of time to take his time and get healthy, and then have Husso as the backup in the playoffs.

I don't care about Corsi. Our team has the fourth worse possession metrics in the league. Seider's only got a 45% corsi for. Only Larkin is above 50%. Who cares? We win games, against good teams, and Ras is a really big part of that.

How would that make you fanboy? You said YOU'D "sing his praises" if he looked good in 9 of 10. He did EXACTLY that in January. Wouldn't that just make you sincere? Edit: I haven't even mentioned his work on the PK. You know, the same PK that's only given up four goals in 30ish attempts. The same powerplay that held opponents 0-20 earlier this season. The same PK that's winning us key games like the one against Colorado.

You're moving the goalposts. I said he provided offense when he was used in an offensive role, something he's only been asked to do for...*checks notes*...one game. You said he was inconsistent in response, and compared him to Boyd Devereaux. Now you're saying he's inconsistent because he's not as good as Draper or Larkin or Seider? Or that he didn't look good in two our two worst games in the last two months? Also, by your own standard (that he look good in 9 of 10 games) then he ABSOLUTELY is that good. Remember all those games in January when he was with Copp and Fischer played together and barely got scored on? He had 6 points in 13 games, and his linemates were also producing, and the team was 9-2-2? That was him literally doing EXACTLY what you're saying he'd need to do for you to "sing his praises". Yet I don't recall you doing any singing. So you're either trolling, disingenuous, or blind.

You and I have a different definition of "inconsistent" then. Rasmussen scored at a 40 point pace when buried in the defensive zone and asked to check guys like Kucherov every night. Debrincat is inconsistent. Gostisbehere is inconsistent. Rasmussen isn't inconsistent, he's literally got the hardest defensive deployment of any forward on the team. The fact that he scores at a .5 ppg pace despite that usage means he's pretty consistently tilting the ice in Detroit's favor offensively. Also, stop trolling. It's gross. Boyd Devereaux was never the best defensive forward on the Red Wings team, nor was he deployed the way Ras is. I don't recall seeing Devereaux on the ice against Forsberg too often.

    Rumors Thread

I remember hearing rumors about Detroit and him, but I'll be honest with you I'm not really a big Schmaltz guy. He's a really skilled player, but he's soft as warm butter and our right shot winger depth is really good (Debrincat, Raymond, Sprong). I'd imagine he'd cost a 1st (plus more) to acquire and I'd be looking at Buchnevich if I'm SY and I'm willing to part with my 1st.

I gotta tell you guys, I'm absolutely SHOCKED to learn that Michael Rasmussen can score when he's not buried in the defensive zone or being asked to shut down Auston Matthews or Nathan MacKinnon. I mean, just the other day I was listening to the dorks on the Winged Wheel Podcast talk about how he's "at best" a bottom six, defensive specialist and now he's putting up multi-point games in Red Wings blowouts. I genuinely can't imagine what changed. I bet he found a magic lamp on the banks of the Detroit River.

Unreal game. I know you can't judge too much from one game, but that's a good team we just played and that looked easy. Lucas Raymond looked incredible. Lyon looked incredible. Kane looked incredible. Debrincat looked incredible. The depth lines were dominant.
