I think he has the ability to be a very good winger at the NHL level, but aside from some nifty stickhandling there's not too much of his game that's comparable to Datsyuk. He's bigger, faster, shoots more, is a winger and not a center, and has been compared to Hossa, not Datsyuk. But like I said, I agree with your sentiment.

You guys have made this thread all about whether Weiss is a more skilled player than Filppula, which I think misses the point. The real concern is whether or not Weiss can be a better player, FOR US, than Filppula was. And in spite of his struggles, I'm not sure that he won't be. He's looking better, and so far this season it's not like anybody else on our team has set the world on fire...to include D and Z. Who cares what Filppula's totals are, we've seen what our teams looks like with him (for several years now) and it didn't win. Time to try something new.

I'm currently watching Winnipeg and Chicago and if Blake Wheeler isn't on team USA there's a problem. That guy is a serious beast. If Mantha turns out to be a Wheeler type forward I'd be thrilled. Dude is big, fast, and has a killer shot.

He'll predictably downplay how pointless it all was, try to deflect some of the responsibility away from the players and onto the management or the "code", and ultimately use it to make some semi-intelligible point to "the kids" about honor. Also predictably, it's going to make me want to puke when I see it.

So your only is problem is that Holtby got beat up TOO BAD? You don't think it's a little silly that he had to fight at all, considering he didn't start anything, nothing illegal happened, and he didn't want to do it in the first place? Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid. Wanna know the best way to get fighting out of the game? Make sure every fight is pointless (Orr vs. Parros) or barbaric (Emery vs. Holtby). Not a single fight in this very short NHL season has been necessary. As a matter of fact, wanna know what fight would have been necessary? The one where some Washington goon went out to protect his goalie who was getting pummeled by Ray Emery and didn't want to fight. What's that? Such a fight never happened? I rest my case.

That line earned it. They've been good in the third. It's crazy what line chemistry will do.
