If that's the case we only have eight more hours to go. Ugh. I hope it's Stone Cold Steve Austin, and the PA announcer says, "And introducing, the newest member of the Detroit Red Wings, starting on defense number 3:16..." and then the glass shatters!

Haha, me neither. I give it about an hour before my girlfriend loses what little patience she has with me as well. HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I thought about this too.

I tried to be cool and charm a little info from Ansar Khan on the mlive story. I called my buddy who works for mlive and (half) jokingly asked him to call Khan and squeeze him for info. I might resort to flat out begging him for info if he doesn't break the story soon. Clearly, patience is not a virtue I exhibit with any sort of class.

read my edited post above.

Nothing that I've seen that definitely rules out a trade. But also not a single source that has used to word "trade" rather than "sign". But Holland is playing it close to the chest, so the reporters probably don't know anything more than anyone else.
-
Well I haven't been this excited about the Wings in about two days. And the hits just keep on coming. Whoever it is, I'm preparing for the inevitable letdown right now. Without trading there are just no options, and it doesn't sound like anyone is getting traded. Ugh.
-
Nobody has said anything about a trade so far. All indications (admittedly very vague) are that Holland is signing someone, which would imply that it's a free agent.
-
I don't want the guy, but at least Lilja knows the system and is pretty good on the PK. Something I can't say for anyone else currently playing defense for the Detroit Red Wings.
-
At this point I might take Cheli. At least he makes you work for your goals.
-
I don't twitter, do any of you? And if so, do you follow Darren Dreger? He always breaks these stories first. I'd be looking to him for info.

Zing! You totally got me on supersonic airplane trivia. Awesome dude! Feel free to insert the name of whatever really really fast jet is in service, and then reread my post and the mysterious point I was trying to make will reveal itself.

This wouldn't surprise me. Some old, mediocre, hack to fill in for our young, mediocre, hacks. I realize that this is a stop gap measure, but I wish Holland would stop being so reluctant to lose talent and take a chance on a legit trade.
-
I'd start going to church. Unfortunately, they said he might play tonight, and unless lids can get from Sweden to Detroit in 9 hours, I'm guessing it's not him. Though I wouldn't doubt that if he wanted it done, Illitch would charter a Concord if it meant getting Lidstrom back.
-
Garbage in, garbage out. If it's a veteran free agent who isn't currently signed with anyone, then there's probably a reason for that. Need to make a trade and bring someone in that's worth a damn. Haha, just thought of something. It's probably Mike F'king Commodore. In this case "veteran" better mean a 29-32 year old and not a 36-38 year old or I'm going to be pissed.

I really don't think we would have to "overpay" for a top four. We got Brad Stuart for a 2nd and a 4th round pick wasn't it? The thing that makes defensemen expensive is if they score a lot of points. Get a big bodied, shut down, defenseman like Stuart was and they come fairly cheap because they rarely score.
-
Nobody should forget that pass, it was terrible. Kronwall hasn't looked good in either of these first two games.
-
I'll say he played excellent, and I won't make any reservations such as "...for a rookie" or "...for his first game" or "...didn't do much, so that's good". What other defenseman gets called up to the big club the day of the game, and immediately steps in on the PK, 4-4, and changes partners part way through the game due to injury? I really liked that I saw, maybe even more than I liked Smith's defensive game...which left quite a bit to be desired tonight. Plus I love the kid's size and mobility.
-
I like Volchenkov, and Ellerby. Subban, I could take or leave. He's a good player and all, but I'm not worried about our defensemen scoring, I'm worried about physical/shutdown play, and the PK. Volchenkov for sure. Or maybe Robyn Regehr. That guy's a beast too.
-
That was a totally sweet goal by Brunner, but part of me wishes he would have shelved it and made Bob look like an ass for going down early.
-
Penalties. Lots and lots of penalties.
-
Don't they have the same amount of points this season? The only difference is that when Franzen made a play earlier, White got the goal. Datsyuk was the recipient of Zetterberg and Kronwall's good play. Good for Datsyuk, good for Franzen. Both have a point.
-
Wow, where is Datsyuk these first two games?
-
Not noticeably bad
