I've been really impressed with Kindl's play so far this year, and I think he keeps getting better as the season progresses. The heads up play he made on the Helm goal a few weeks back really shows what the kid can do, and I think we'll see more of that as his confidence grows. That said, I do feel bad for Commie. He's a good team guy who really wants to play hockey, and I hate to see him sitting out after the way he was approached by Holland in the offseason. But then again, who knew Kindl and Ericsson would be so sold coming into this year?

I don't really know how the coaching change will affect the Ryan situation, I doubt they'll move him now, but if he'll still on the market, anybody think there's a chance we could package Stuart with some others for a trade? I know he wants to go back to Cali and the Ducks defense is pretty poor, so maybe they'd be interested. I absolutely don't want to see Stuart go, but if his mind is set on it, then it might work for all parties.

Anybody know why Miller wasn't taken out of the game and sent to the training staff for a concussion evaluation like every other player involved in a bit hit/potential injury situation is forced to do? He played for another period and a half. I'm not implying that he was faking or anything, I'm just wondering if there are a different set of rules for goalies with regards to injuries as well?
-
Is it just me or does Datsyuk look sloooooow this season? He's not holding on to the puck, he's moving slowly, he's not making moves that he typically would. Is he hurt or something? Anybody know anything?
-
Agreed, but Lucic is lucky Patrick Kaleta wasn't on the ice or else he would have got hit by something much worse than Miller's stick...actually hit about 20 times with something worse. Kaleta is a beast. Note: Haha, I just found a youtube video of Lucic busting Kalata in the nose. Oops.

Don't be such a princess about it. The point of the original post was not to say Datsyuk was bad, or even to ***** about his production. I was wondering if he were still recovering from injury or something because the moves he was making and the speed with which he were making them didn't seem very "Datsyukian". I think that was pretty straight forward from the start. With the exception of a handful of people on this site, every single post on every single thread just devolves to people bitching about whoever isn't playing up to their expectations, or else someone (like the guy I'm responding to here) being overly reactionary and acting as if I'd just dick slapped Datsyuk in the face. The question was simple, stick to the topics, start a new post, and get over yourselves.

I thought about that too, but when he came back from that injury he tore it up so I'm not sure how that would be the issue.
-
I'm talking about his moves and his puck handling, not who's on a line with him (I know the limitations there). In those areas I think he looks slow, he seems to be getting stripped a lot, and his dangles just don't seem as sharp and affective. Then again, it's just a perception, maybe I'm wrong. I'm just wondering if he's hurt or if he didn't condition well this off season.

Well it could be worse, we could have paid James Wisneiwski 5 million a year to do nothing (a position I was in favor of during the off season and am currently eating crow on).
-
I realize this has already been discussed previously, but the Montreal Gazette is reporting that the Canadiens are "unlikely" to sign defenseman James Wisniewski to another contract and he will thus be forced to test free agency. Wisniewski is about the same size as Salei (5'11, 210 lbs.) plays phsical, fights, and is a good penalty killer, but also has a much more positive offensive game. 51 pts. in 2011, mostly on the powerplay. Additionally, he shoots right handed as Rafalski did and it a good outlet passer for a transition game like Detroit's. His plus/minus was -14, -18 with the Islanders and +4 with Montreal. Finally, his contract was roughly 3.5 million last year and could expect a little more, but not substantially more for a new contract. Any chance the local boy signs with the Wings to fill Rafalski's shoes and leaves a couple of million left to pursue other pieces?

I like how this post has devolved from a very reasonable OP which acknowledged that Filppula isn't the best defensive forward in the league, wasn't going to win a Selke, but was nonetheless a very talented defender who is likely in the upper eschelon of defensive forwards in the league, but who gets little notice because of his unassuming style and more able teammates. So what does everybody start arguing about immediately? 1) Flip isn't the best defensive forward in the league. 2) He's never going to win a Selke. 3) He's good but not even the best on his team. 4) His style is unassuming and doesn't draw a lot of attention. Way to go you hockey gurus, you've certainly enlightened everyone except the original poster or anyone with reading comprehension skills more developed than an ape.

Wisniewski, Laich, Babchuck/Montador, Ty Conklin/Joey/Osgood.
-
See my note in the above statement, I realized you may be talking about only the last two years and corrected for it.

I know right? This future Hall of Fame goalie totally blows. Him and his garbage 2.49 lifetime goals against average, 400 career regular season wins, .905 regular season save percentage, 2.09 playoff goals against, .916 playoff save percentage, 74 playoff wins, 15 playoff shutouts, and three Stanley Cup wins. What a buster! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out Os-terrible...am I right...am I right? If you don't want to see him re-signed I understand. Making dumb ass comments which suggest that he's a bad goalie, is...well...nevermind, perhaps the NBA is more your speed. Note: I am way protective of Osgood considering so many people defy logic and want to talk s***. That being said, if you were only referencing his last two years when he wasn't really playing very well then I sincerely apologize for the overreaction. If, however, you were making disparaging remarks about a career that has been nothing less than stellar, you are dumb as hell.

Don't be so hard on the Canadians there fellas. It's got to be frustrating. After hockey season is over in the Deteroit, I just switch into baseball mode without ever missing a gear. What the hell are these poor S.O.B's gonna do until October?
-
I agree that he was insane all year, but I wasn't really impressed with the B's throughout the season. Even in the playoffs I often thought they looked beatable, but Timmy was the X factor. Either way, insane year, insane playoffs, and all with a chuckle and a good smile on his face. Seems like a guy that really enjoys where he's at right now.
-
One of the better playoff performances I've seen in a long long time. Atta boy Timmy!

I have never ever heard of this supposed hatred. I doesn't really make sense to me. But I'll venture a guess. Sometimes, West Coast teams, people, states, etc. are not really too highly thought of among the people in the Midwest and on the East Coast...which might make sense if Vancouver were in the U.S. I'm baffled by this though.

I don't think Franzen is untouchable. You'd certainly want to get a whole lot for him, but if the trade was right I could see them doing it. I'm not in favor of getting rid of him just to do it, like I am with Jiri, but depending on the return I wouldn't be heartbroken if they moved Franzen.
-
Let's say for the sake of argument that Jiri Hudler had scored 50-60 pts. (instead of 37 pts) and was the same -7 on defense. This would bring him in line with what everyone really thinks that he'll turn out to be. Does that make any difference in the San Jose series? Does it stop them from dominating possession and endlessly cycling the puck? Do we go on to win that one, beat Vancouver, and play Boston for the Cup? Does he somehow match up better against quality forwards? Does our goals against go down? Now replace Hudler with Wolski, Zherdev, Tim Connolly, etc.? Do we win with any of these guys? Against the good teams? If not, maybe the problem isn't that we don't score enough. What do you all think?
-
I'm with you for the most part, I don't think that he's going to light it up offensively. But I dont' think it's unrealistic to think he could average ten more points per year for the next four or five years. And that's nothing on his linemates, I think just by increasing your shooting by 50% you'd figure on ten extra points a season, given how few shots he takes.

None of us have our own idea? Today he finally got around to coming to the conclusion that James Wisniewski was the best option for a UFA d-man, something I made clear was my position two weeks ago in my thread "James Wisniewski". Now he's wondering which UFA top six forward we should sign. Wonder if my own idea on that could be found in my two week old thread entitled "Brooks Laich"? We don't have our own ideas or we've reached solid conclusions two weeks before he does in most cases, and then we're on to the next topic? Let the readers decide.

What was it you said to that guy the other day?...oh yeah..."I weep for you and your hurt feelings". Probably time to head back over to the other Michigan sports boards and get reassured you pathetic like gunsel.

Yeah I agree, but Pavel didn't shoot like that at 27 either. People don't really remember that about him, but for years everybody's been saying Pavel needs to shoot more. I'm not saying that Filpulla will ever be as good as Datsyuk, but I do think he'll continue to take more shots, and take over a bigger role in the scoring as well. He's got all the skills, with him it's just a mental thing, but I think he'll get there.
