Remember that time I said "plays die" on Veleno's stick and KRsmith nearly cried? Those were the days. -

I dunno dude, I think both the Berggren and Hronek penalties were legit. -

I love Chiarot. I just think he needs to be "the man" on his own pair the same way Seider and Hronek are. I'd love to see: Walman-Seider Maatta-Hronek Chiarot-Jensen Get a good solid defender with good skating to stay back and play defense while Big Ben wheels and deals. Edit: I was 100% wrong about Walman on the top pair. That dude is a monster. Love him. -

Tired: Ben Bros Wired: Chia Pets. -
To Dallas: Bertuzzi (50% retained), Vrana (50% retained), 2nd To Detroit: Wyatt Johnston, 1st To Buffalo: Dallas' 1st, Albert Johansson To Detroit: Juri Kulich
-
Jensen would be fine, not thanks on Boeser. His contract sucks and he's basically the exact same player as Kubalik.
-
Prediction: The Elias Lindholm to Detroit at the deadline.
-
Media reporting that Vrana isn’t going back to GR, just a paper transaction to reduce the number of days until he has to be exposed to waivers again.
-
So I'm genuinely a genius right? Since posting this we've gone 9-4, clawed our way back into the playoff picture. Ras, Berggren, and Fabbri - in particular- have been excellent and Vrana has returned. Worship me as your God you f*cking peasants.

Berggren was really good last night again. Had two world class passes to set up scoring changes, one Veleno botched and the other Walman put off the pipe. His assists are going to skyrocket the minute we get a finisher or two playing regularly on this team. -
Big game tonight. Gotta hope Larkin and Berggren stay on their hot streak because without Raymond and Vrana we're short on offense in the lineup tonight.
-
Could be, hard to say. At the end of the day I'm not mad about it, I just assumed that after the year he'd had (and given his cap hit) that he'd be pretty desirable to teams looking to go on playoff runs. Then again, we aren't exactly out of the Wildcard ourselves so maybe this is SY giving his team a vote of confidence.
-
If anyone here is religious, like really genuinely religious, then when you're brushing your teeth before bed tonight you should look at yourself in the mirror and think, "I'm one of the dumbest f*cks alive today". Just profoundly, disgustingly, stupid. Tyler Bertuzzi stupid.
-
I think Chiarot has played the right side in the past.
-
Something I noticed last night that I found interesting. Neither Berggren nor Kubalik played in overtime nor shot in the shootout. Lalonde sent Seider out for the shootout (which was predictably terrible) and not Berggren. You'd think those would be the exact scenarios you'd want those guys (Berggren especially). I'm not sure if they were in trouble or whether Lalonde is just THAT conservative of a coach. Our shootout order was: Fabbri Perron Larkin Seider Suter
-
Seider had an absolutely beastly stop on McDavid during overtime as well. One on one situation and Seider bodied him, completely nullified the play, and Detroit got the puck back. He was fantastic against McDavid all night long, no easy feat...obviously.
-
I'm not mad about SY re-signing Maatta. He's been good. I just don't understand why you wouldn't wait till after the deadline. See if there's a market for the guy and then re-sign if nothing materializes.
-
This is...an interesting choice. In terms of defensive depth I'm not bothered by it. Chiarot has played his off side in the past and you could easily still go into next season with: Walman-Seider Maatta-Hronek Edvinsson-Chiarot But I really don't understand taking this trade chip off the table just for the sake of signing a 2nd pair defensive defenseman.

I'll start by saying that I haven't really watched a ton of SJ and so my only familiarly with Meier is largely based on his league reputation and stat lines (so take this with a grain of salt). The only comparably players that have been traded recently have been hockey trades. Laine and Roslovic were traded to CBJ for a good young center: Pierre Luc Dubois. Mathew Tkachuk was traded for Huberdueau and Weegar. But for Wings' fans I think the most telling example is Mantha. Meier is what Mantha was supposed to be. Same player, but a better version. And Mantha got Vrana and a 1st (the 2nd and Richard Panik I consider a second salary-shedding move that happened at the same time). Now, our 1st will be more valuable than Washington's was in the Mantha trade but we're also not giving up anything as proven as Vrana was (at the time) because we don't have any pieces like that. So... 2023 1st, Berggren, Wallinder is probably the best package we could put together that would get us in the ballpark (assuming Edvinsson and Kasper are untouchable).

Columbus ain't moving Jiricek. He's a top ten pick (6th), he's performing really well, and they're a rebuilding team. He's an awesome player though, you're right about that. I don't think Hronek can really ask for the moon or anything, he's having a really good season this year, but his track record isn't so good that he can ask too much. He's like Bertuzzi in that way. One really good year and a few pretty good ones. That should typically put you in the 6-6.5 million range for Hronek. I'd lock him up at that in a heartbeat. But we've still got a lot of rope left to play out with him. He's under contract for another year, and then he's an RFA still. So he's under team control for at least two more seasons after this one. So SY has a couple options with him. Overall I agree that it would be nice to have another decent right hander, but I don't think it's as urgent as center or scoring winger.
-
They can't afford him. He's got an extremely high qualifying offer, something like 10 million, and their financials are a wreck (apparently, I haven't looked). Lots of speculation that whichever teams lands him in a trade will qualify him at 10 million then work out a long term extension at a more appropriately priced deal. It's not unheard of, Carolina did the same thing with Kotkaniemi.
-
Johansson also had a nice night, with 2 points. Glad to see he's rounding into form offensively. I was really impressed with how responsible he was defensively but I was hoping for more production and it seems to finally be coming.
-
4 point night for Edvinsson in GR’s win tonight. He’s going to be so good.
