    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

If there's a trade involving Bertuzzi and Boeser, Detroit has to add, not Vancouver. No way they'd add Podkolzin, unless you're willing to part with 6th overall, or another significant piece. I love Bert, but you (and others) are massively overvaluing him. Boeser is a better player, and he's also two years younger. If we're trading with Toronto, the ask should be Sandin, not Robertson (or Amirov) in my opinion... We have enough small, skilled wingers. I think if you can get 9th overall, plus another piece, you run with that. We could take a skater at 6th overall, and goalie (Wallstedt) at 9th overall. Fill two huge holes, and still have the 22nd pick, plus multiple 2nd's...

    2021 Buyout Thread

Well, to be fair, it made "absolutely no sense" to buy out Abdelkader last year either, and that happened... I think Nielsen will (should) be bought out. I don't think DeKeyser will be though.

    2021 Draft

I already answered your dumb hypothetical question about 7 times...
  4. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

Yes they would. There's no one that would take two goalies in the top 22, if they had someone else ranked equally. I didn't "bawk" at anything. You're just (purposely) misrepresenting what I'm saying. That's what you do. Anyway, I wouldn't take two goalies in the first round. Yzerman won't take two goalies in the first round. I'm done.

    2021 Draft

I didn't separate them into tiers. Like I said, I simply have Eklund and Hughes rated ahead of Wallstedt. Yzerman has Wallstedt in his first "tier" All other players in his first tier are gone at 6, except Wallstedt. He takes Wallstedt. Yzerman has Cossa in his third "tier". All other players in his first three tiers are gone at 22, except Cossa. That most definitely wouldn't be the case. But IF it were, I would suggest he go to the next "tier" to take a skater, since the dropoff from "tier 3" to "tier 4" likely isn't that significant. When I said "tiers by themselves", I meant after players from said tier have already been taken, not that they were designated their own special tier... Miscommunication. I presume purposefully on your end...

    2021 Draft

"list" should have been the word in quotations there. Implying that I don't really have a "list"... I simply have Eklund and Hughes ahead of Wallstedt. I don't have a list of every player broken down into tiers... Goalies can be in the same tier. Those two specific goalies are not in the same tier in my opinion. There's a difference. So you think Yzerman has a "tier" with just Wallstedt and Cossa? "Tier 1" *Lists players* "That's not one tier"... I also never said half of what you're saying I said, but here we are... Your dumb hypothetical has already been answered. The answer is no, it would be beyond dumb, terrible asset management (in my opinion) to take two goalies in the top 22 of a draft...

    2021 Draft

No, I didn't say "I have a tiered out list". Not at all. I simply said I would have Wallstedt in a tier below Eklund. aka I'd personally prefer Eklund or Hughes over Wallstedt (and a number of other players)... I don't know how it's all structured / determined... I said I would "assume" most teams break their list down into tiers or groups. It's what would make sense to me. You seem to think they have a numbered list, and stick to next player off the list... Two goalies can be in the same tier. I've never said otherwise... I also never said the two goalies would have to be in tiers of their own. You're the one that said... "Yzerman's tier1: Walstedt, Power, Johnson, Eklund.... Cossa. Everyone in tier1 besides Cossa is gone at 22. Boom two goalies." Like I said, there are likely exceptions to the rule, taking best player available. You really think a GM would go into a draft with 10 picks and a list of 200 players in a specific order, not stray from that list whatsoever, and walk away with 10 players of the same position (10 goalies), because that's what the list said to do?... I know you're trying to be a smart ass, but you're once again proving just how dumb you are...

    2021 Draft

I don't have tiers... I don't know enough about any draft class to be able to break each player down into different tiers. Let alone this draft class, in which I've stated several times, I know very little about the group overall (less than most years)... I have players I like, and others not so much. Even that is admittedly based on limited information... My top choice at 6 right now, is Eklund or Hughes. At 23, I'm hoping a top 10-15 talent falls, like Raty or Lambos. Other than that, there are a ton of other players I'd be okay with in those spots, and even more players I know absolutely nothing about...

    2021 Draft

... It's a dumb hypothetical question. No I wouldn't take Cossa, if we had already taken Wallstedt. No one would. If it were back to back centers or defensemen? Sure. Goaltenders? No. Exactly.
  10. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

So I suppose you think teams have rankings 1-200, and never stray from that order. No debate at the table. Just next name off the list... I personally think, based on the amount of time spent on each pick (especially in the 1st round), teams have tiers of players that they will have an internal debate over, depending on who they believe to be the best fit. If Wallstedt is the top ranked prospect available at 6, Yzerman will obviously take him. If when pick 23 comes up, and there are three prospects (Cossa, Lambos, Raty for example) available (all ranked in that same "tier"), they may decide right off the bat to pass on the goalie (after already taking one at 6), and debate between the center and defenseman. Seems made up, doesn't it? Way too far fetched... Most of the quotes I've heard from players over the past year have been in pre/post-game pressers. Those aren't easy to find. I can't find any from players... No QuOtE, iT DiDn'T hApPeN... Sure. So either not a single reporter asked a single player what they thought of Larkin being named captain. OR every player that was asked said it was a poor decision, and Yzerman should have named someone different... That must be why I can't find anything... After a quick Google search, here's a couple quotes from the GM / coach... Yzerman: "Dylan is an extremely competitive and driven player who sets the standard for dedication and conduct for the Red Wings," Yzerman said. "This is the right time to name our new captain, and we're certain Dylan is ready to take on the responsibility. He will be an outstanding leader for us, both on and off the ice." Blashill: “I am extremely excited that Dylan Larkin will be our captain,” said Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill in a statement. “To be named captain of the Detroit Red Wings is an enormous honor and one that Dylan has certainly earned. Dylan has the utmost respect from his teammates because of his work ethic, passion, care for others and burning desire to win. I have watched first-hand as Dylan has grown as a leader during his time with the Red Wings and internationally at three World Championships representing Team USA. He is ready for the challenges that come with serving as captain and will be complemented by a great leadership group ready to support him.” I have a feeling that maybe, just maybe, the players would / HAVE echo(d) the same sentiment...

    2021 Draft

Fortunately, Yzerman isn't dumb enough to have those 3 players and 2 goalies (LOL) in the same tier... Again, there are exceptions to the rule. You'd have to be dumb as s*** to take two goalies in the top 25 of a draft... ... like I was saying... Provide a quote? Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing. Going back over all the videos on the Red Wings YouTube page to find a quote for you... How about you find a quote of players saying Larkin isn't a good captain... You didn't "fool" anyone into admitting anything... Talent definitely plays a role, but how often do you see career 4th line grinders named captain? On any team, let alone the Red Wings. Never. Sure. Both will likely be better players. They may even be better leaders on and off the ice. If that's the case, they'll make great alternate captains. Yzerman is NOT stripping the C from Larkin. It's not happening. I'm really disappointed that you were banned. I know you said something else extremely dumb in response to my last post, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to read it in time...
  12. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

In order for Yzerman to take BOTH goalies at 6 and 23, they would have to be sitting alone in tiers by themselves. That most definitely wouldn't be the case. I'm not sure what you're finding difficult to understand about this... Terrible asset (draft pick) management in my opinion... Yeah, I'm sure his teammates would totally agree. Oh, except they don't. They've all said he's a great leader. "WeLl WhAt Do YoU eXpEcT tHeM tO sAy?"... Probably not go out of their way to talk him up as a captain of the team... Larkin works just as hard as Glendening, but actually has some skill to go along with it (unlike Glendening)... The second point I can get on board with. Unfortunately, Yzerman didn't see it that way. He clearly seen Larkin as a better option as captain, than Seider. I agree with the bold. However, Larkin will still eat the tough minutes, against the oppositions best. Raymond will get more of the offensive zone starts, and eat other teams second and third lines / pairings alive. Oh Goodie, a Smith reference. Just take your defeat Burgerman. You have once again been backed into the corner...

    2021 Draft

100%. Except for the fact that he could... He did it twice and was on pace for 60+ another season... One down season, and Larkin is done at the age of 24...
  14. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

I guess you missed the part about tiers... You think Yzerman has both Wallstedt and Cossa in tiers of their own? LOL Ok, sure, I'll humor you... IF that were the case, then sure, take both goalies in the first round... Larkin is very vocal. We've all seen it. I didn't compare Larkin to any of those guys. I simply said none of those guys were very vocal, and none of them had much of a personality / charisma... Seider will make a great alternate captain in a few years... I'm pretty sure you just described every captain ever, and also your boy Glendening that would have been such a better choice over Larkin... Raymond is going to be on Larkin's wing very quickly. I hope Raymond can transition back to center. But even if he does, we're looking at 3 years minimum before he unseats Larkin as 1C.
  15. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

Yes. O'Reilly won the Selke, Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup at the age of 28. Larkin is 24. O'Reilly was right around where Larkin is now, at the same age. Except Larkin was slightly better... Larkin has had two 60+ point seasons, and one other where he was on pace for 60+. He can get back there after one down season. You're not debating that though. You've already admitted that you think he can get back to 60+ points. If he can do that, while playing against the leagues best every night, and holding his own, that WOULD make him a true number one center. No, my reasoning is that Yzerman JUST named him captain. We have absolutely no reason, zero, to believe he's going to take it from him.\ What mistake? Naming Larkin the captain was not a mistake whatsoever. What makes Seider, or anyone for that matter, a better option as captain than Larkin? You've already admitted it has nothing to do with skill level? So what is it? I understand that just because a player is named captain, doesn't necessarily mean it's forever. But until we're given legitimate reason to believe Larkin isn't cutting it as captain, there's no reason to assume he won't be the captain for the foreseeable future... So you only want to keep Larkin around if "the little lad" is willing to give up the C... LOL I'd love to know who you think Yzerman is going to acquire, be it through free agency, trade or the draft, that is going to unseat Larkin as the 1C... There aren't 1C's better than Larkin available in free agency. No one is trading us a 1C better than Larkin, unless we're giving up premium piece(s) (1st round pick / Seider, plus). There likely aren't any 1C's better than Larkin available in the draft, unless we win the lottery (Wright / Bedard). And even then, it would be 3-4 years minimum before either of them would unseat Larkin as the 1C...

    2021 Draft

No it wasn't. On "my" list, I have Wallstedt in a tier below Eklund and a couple others. Maybe Yzerman has it reversed. If you're talking about your dumb (never gonna happen) two goalies in the 1st round draft scenario, well, that was... dumb... You know who else had a boring personality? Yzerman. Also, Lidstrom and Zetterberg. Along with countless other captains around the league. You think because Seider is charismatic, he's going to be the captain over Larkin? LOL Larkin is ALWAYS talking on the ice, and on the bench. Where are you getting all this bulls*** from? Seider will make a damn good alternate captain, and maybe captain in 10+ years when Larkin is done.
  18. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

So, O'Reilly is one of the best two-way centers in the league, but you wouldn't consider a 65-75 point two-way center a true number one center... Okay... And yes, me saying that I think the newly appointed captain will likely be a lifelong Red Wing, is a lot less of a hot take than you saying that you think he's going to be stripped of his captaincy and traded... Ok, so if that's nonsensical, what would be your sensical reasoning for stripping the C from Larkin and trading our best (only good) center? This should be good... The San Jose Sharks are not the Detroit Red Wings. Doug Wilson is not Steve Yzerman.
  19. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

Need should ALWAYS be considered, but should NEVER be the determining factor. Again, I would assume most teams have tiers of players on their list. That's when you may consider which player better fits with the team, be it position, handedness, different attributes (leadership, skill, toughness, etc.)... Based on what? Detroit being a bad team? LOL Have you been in the dressing room? Have you asked players on the team if Larkin is a good captain? Nope and Nope... So you think the Red Wings would have had a better record last season if Larkin remained an alternate, and Glendening were the captain? LOL That's the difference. I don't think who wears the C has much of an impact on the outcome of games. Any more dumb questions?
  20. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

Yes, but there are obviously exceptions. Taking two goaltenders with your first two picks (both in the first round), in the middle of a rebuild, when you have other glaring needs, would definitely be an exception to the rule... Besides, I'm sure most teams have their lists in tiers, and I highly doubt Wallstedt will be in a tier of his own at 6, let alone Cossa in a tier of his own at 23... If Yzerman has Wallstedt and Eklund (for example) ranked similarly, I would hope he would take the skater (personal preference). If he has Cossa and Lambos (for example) ranked similarly, I'd be okay with either player or goalie there... Ok, so you think a different captain would have made a difference this past season, but won't make much of a difference in the future? So why strip Larkin of the C? Who would have been a better choice as captain this past season? And how much better would the Wings had been with said captain?
  21. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

No, he doesn't take two goaltenders in the 1st round. No team / GM would ever take a goaltender at 6 and 23. It's not going to happen. So you think the Red Wings will continue to struggle with Larkin as their captain, regardless of the players coming up? But if Yzerman takes the C from Larkin and gives it to Seider (who will presumably be an alternate), all of a sudden they're a much better team? LOL okay...
  22. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

Wallstedt at 6, and next best skater available (assuming there isn't much of a dropoff) at 22... I'm all for trying Raymond at center. He has all the tools to be an elite center. Will the Red Wings try him there? I don't know. Will he succeed there? Maybe. I have a lot of "actual opinions". You know that. Everyone here knows that. I'm just not taking a stance on a draft class, that I know very little about. Even the people that are supposed to know everything about all of these players, don't. There just isn't the same level of information on a lot of them. I'm hoping Yzerman makes the right pick, whether that's Eklund, Edvinsson, Wallstedt, or someone completely different... You think anyone else could have done a better job leading this team the past few seasons? You think we would have been better if a different player was wearing the C? LOL
  23. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

LOL I distinctively remember when the Red Wings took Larkin back in the '14 draft, people saying that he's a born leader, and someone, I can't remember who, maybe Pierre, said he will be a captain for the Red Wings someday. Well, he was right. Larkin definitely has leadership qualities, and he will remain the captain of the Red Wings. Seider will get an A, and maybe Raymond will get the other A...
  24. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

Okay, how about this. I would be mildly disappointed if Yzerman doesn't take a defenseman with one of his two first round picks... But in the end, I just want him to take best player available at 6 and 23. Seider and Raymond will be NHL players. No doubt. Will they be true number one defenseman / center? Who knows. Keep playing stupid though. You're really good at that... LOL
  25. krsmith17

    2021 Draft

It's funny you bring up Nyquist... I remember this one guy actually thought he was "the future"... He's now 31 years old, so no, I don't think he's going to become one of the best two-way wingers in the league... I never said the Red Wings will never trade a captain ever again... I'm saying Yzerman didn't make Larkin the next Red Wing captain, only to trade him. Larkin is here for the long haul, and like it or not, he will be the captain, and number one center for the foreseeable future. It's an opinion dumbass. Definitely has more merit than any of your dumb opinions, especially Yzerman will strip Larkin of the C, and trade him, because hookersarethefuture on a message forum said so... You don't strip a player of the C, to give it to someone else, just because he's a better player...
