    2019-20 Prospects Thread

I wouldn't necessarily say that. A lot of high end prospects stay in Europe for a year or two after being drafted. A lot of them do end up playing in the pro leagues (some even before being drafted) though. I'm pretty sure both Soderblom and Tuomisto are good enough to play in the pro leagues, but want to keep their college eligibility, so have to remain in the lower tier leagues. I'm just curious as to what their production would look like if they played in the pro leagues, or in North America, compared to some of the top players their age...

    2019-20 Prospects Thread

Anyone know how the Sweden U20 (SuperElit) and Finland U20 (SM-Liiga) leagues compare to the CHL and NCAA? Elmer Soderblom and Antti Tuomisto are tops of their respective leagues. Soderblom currently has 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) in 18 games for Frölunda, 2nd in points, behind Nils Aman (who is a year and a half older). Tuomisto has 22 points (8 goals, 14 assists) in 21 games for Assat, 14th in overall scoring and leading all defensemen. I'm thinking (hoping) Soderblom could be a steal in last year's draft...
  3. Yeah, if we're trading Athanasiou, I think it needs to be for a high 1st (top 15 pick) on the draft floor, if there's a player we're really high on available, or a high end prospect. I'd personally prefer a prospect that is closer to NHL ready, and we've seen that extra year or two of development. Dabura, you mentioned Tomasino plus a 2nd round pick. That's exactly the type of trade I'd be looking to make if we were to move Athanasiou, and I think he's worth that. Maybe even more if he continues playing the way he did last night, and gets his stock back up...
  4. I met Drapes at the Stadium Series game in Colorado. Got a pic with him, but never got his autograph. I'm not big into autographs to be honest...

2019-20 Red Wings News, Notes & Quotes...

Interesting tidbit from LeBrun's recent article on The Athletic, "Coaches who could soon be free agents"... "There are three head coaches on expiring deals, more or less, this season: Detroit’s Jeff Blashill signed a two-year extension late last season with the Red Wings but my understanding is that it’s a one-year deal plus a club option for Year 2. So this season is the only guaranteed part of things. Minnesota’s Bruce Boudreau... Winnipeg’s Paul Maurice..."
  6. Anyone else hyped to see what Perlini can do with this team? If Blashill gives him a bit of a leash, I think he can be a solid addition to our middle six.
  7. I hear ya, and I'm not trying to downplay what Hughes is doing, as he's going to be a fantastic player. However, Cholowski had 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) in his first 11 NHL games, and Mantha really struggled early on in the AHL. Some would even say he was "very, very disappointing"... Point is, players develop at different rates. Some players struggle early in their pro careers, and become great NHLers, and other have hot starts, and fizzle out. Not to say either will be the case with Hughes or Zadina, but you never know. It's still early days...

Minimal maybe, but there is an impact, which is the point. You shouldn't trade a player when his stock is down, and right now, Athanasiou's stock is definitely down. Production will always effect a players perceived value. The fact that he only has 3 assists, and is a team worst (and league worst) -12, through 11 games will definitely impact his trade value. The best thing to do, like mentioned, is to wait it out and hope he starts capitalizing on his chances. Assuming he does, he would be a pretty significant trade chip later in the season. If AA can get us a 1st round pick, plus, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  9. Boeser over Svechnikov is a no-brainer. Having Boeser would have given us that elite top line right-handed winger. Hughes is elite offensively, but will never be great defensively. Gun to head, I would take Hughes over Zadina right now, but I still think there's a lot of time for that to change. I'll hold judgment on that one for another couple years. I guess if I'm reserving judgment on Zadina, I should do the same for Rasmussen. He has looked good prior to his recent injury, but as of now, I'd still take Necas over him... Bertuzzi - Larkin - Boeser Zadina - Necas - Mantha Athanasiou - Veleno - Perlini Smith - Turgeon - Glendening DeKeyser - Hronek Cholowski - Seider McIsaac - Bowey Larsson

I just hope we don't trade him while he's goalless... Give him a ton of ice time and top power-play minutes, hope he breaks out and goes on a bit of a heater... Then trade him for a 1st round pick or high end prospect.

I'm not sure we'd get much of anything for either of them either, unfortunately... IF they can both stay healthy, I can see Green maybe having 20 points, and Daley maybe 10 points... I wouldn't expect anything more than a 3rd round pick for Green and 5th round pick for Daley at this point in their careers....

As long as they're not in the lineup on a regular basis, I'd be fine with it. Problem is, 13th/14th forwards play a fair amount of games throughout the season. Whether there's an injury, or sitting a kid, for... reasons. I'd prefer to see any combination of Glendening / Abdelkader / Helm / Erne / Kuffner / Turgeon / Pearson / Smith as our 4th line and 13th/14th forwards over Ehn / de la Rose...

    Karlsson on the move?

Yup. I knew whoever signed him would end up regretting it, I just didn't think it would be this soon. Granted, I doubt this is the end of elite Erik Karlsson. I'm sure he'll bounce back, but he'll never be close to worth that contract for the entirity of it.

I don't give a s*** about mistakes. As long as young players are learning from their mistakes, let them make them. However, a mistake made of a young player and a mistake made by a veteran is handled very differently... I agree with showcasing trade chips, but no one is trading for Ehn or de la Rose. They're not NHL players. Waive them and be done with it. I hope you're not actually suggesting we should extend either of these hacks, are you?

How are Ehn and de la Rose immune to being scratched? They both suck offensively. Are they really that good defensively? I don't see it... How about Nielsen? He's f***ing awful too. Can't scratch a vet making over $5M though... Same applies to Daley and Green...

Holland set to become GM of Oilers

I've been a Holland supporter for the most part, so it's unfortunate to see him go. However, I'm excited to see what he can do in Edmonton. He'll have that franchise center to build around, but he'll have a lot of work to do to clean up the mess left by Chiarelli.
