To EDM: Michael Rasmussen (2017 9th overall pick) 2019 2nd round pick (SJS) 2020 3rd round pick (DET) To DET: Evan Bouchard (2018 10th overall pick) 2020 2nd round pick (EDM) Who says no? -
Yeah, I'm saying IF the top 5 go down as Wheeler laid it out, I'd trade back, and Caufield would be a potential pick in a trade back scenario, or maybe even Zegras or Krebs...
-
All of this is why I'd really consider trading back, as long as we remain in the top 9 or 10. For the record, I really like York as well. How would you feel about Caufield?
-
I'm sure Dabura would love this outcome, but if that's the way the top 5 goes (my personal top 5), I'd be inclined to move down (if possible).

Nothing more than dumb fans spewing dumb s*** on something they clearly know very little about. Holland is a great general manager. Ask fans and then ask people actually involved in the NHL, and you'll get two polar opposite responses. There's a reason for that...

I disagree. Hockey growing in the States will not negatively impact Canadian markets, especially Edmonton. I'll assume you've never been to a game there, but that city eats, sleeps and breathes hockey. Like I said, they're ticket and merchandise sales are in the top half (closer to top 10) of the league, despite them being a terrible team right now. Imagine those numbers when they get good in a few years... They're further ahead in that they have the best player in the world entering his prime. Something that is unique to one team. They've now added one of the best GM's of the past quarter century. I have full confidence in that team turning it around in the next few years. I guess I understand why there is some skepticism, but I have no idea why anyone would think they're going to be a defunct team any time soon...
-
Yeah, I'm just not that interested in signing a player to a contract that I think, "well, we'll have an amnesty buyout coming up if things go south"... I have no interest in trading for Weber for all the reasons (plus some) that I have no interest in signing Karlsson...
-
500 years? I don't even think I'd want him for another 7 years... But yeah, I agree with the bold. Weber is still a very good defenseman, but that contract is bad, not to mention the pieces we'd have to give up to get him. Not a good move for a rebuilding team...
-
Okay... I'm not sure what you're getting at here... Are you trying to refute what I'm saying because the Gretzky era Oilers are ahead of the McDavid era Oilers? Are you agreeing with what I'm saying? Or are you just stating facts to add onto what I'm saying?...
-
What makes you think the Oilers are a "small market" team? They're not. Right, you only have so many people to buy tickets and merchandise. The people in Edmonton are buying both, despite the team being s***. Imagine when they actually get good in a few years. They will get there. Mark it. Oilers aren't going anywhere...
-
The Oilers will not "end up in a US market eventually". Look where Pittsburgh were before they got Lemieux and later Crosby... or where Edmonton were before they got Gretzky (and later McDavid)... Oilers will be back in the playoffs *within* 3 years, and win a Cup *within* 10 years...

With Bean still to come... Would be the top D prospect in most organizations.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

Sounds like a player we should switch back to forward... I'm not too optimistic this kid turns into anything more than a depth signing / defenseman for Grand Rapids for a couple seasons, which is fine, but if he does, great. -

So are Horcoff and / or Fischer moving out?
-
Yup, but I would assume that pushes Draper out? Maybe... I'd prefer Draper over Martin, but oh well...
-
So apparently Martin is staying in Detroit in the same role as Assistant General Manager and General Manager of the Griffins. So where does that leave Verbeek? Also, Assistant GM? Maybe he'll take of Draper's old role as Assistant to the General Manager...
-
For sure. It's too bad though that Al Murray didn't come aboard as well, because I would say Murray >>> Wright...
-
Completely agree. I was hoping Horcoff and Cleary would stick, but that's more so for personal reasons. Martin, Wright, Fischer, Andersson or any of the other scouts could go as far as I'm concerned... It's now Yzerman's team, let him bring in all new faces / voices... I wonder if Mark Hunter would be a candidate to come on in some capacity... I know he's mostly been in a general manager type role, but he's also done a fair bit of scouting in the past...

I hear ya. I'm just saying, for me, I'd rather Callahan and a 3rd (it would be more than a 3rd) than spend that cap space on any potential free agent this summer. -
I was expecting Martin and Wright to likely follow Holland, and I'm okay with it, but was hoping to keep Cleary and Horcoff in Player Development.
