What does it say about this team? Nothing... The Leafs (along with the Habs) won all their Cups in the original six era. Those two teams dominated. The Red Wings are 3rd all-time in Stanley Cups. They've won 4 in our lifetime. Most Leafs fans have either never seen their team win the Cup or were too young to remember.

I agree. I'd be shocked if the Hawks don't draft Turcotte. I'd love for him to slip to 6, but I don't see it happening.

I'm assuming this was in response to @LeftWinger on Karlsson? If so, I agree 100%. Stay away from Karlsson.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

The situation Yzerman was in in Tampa, is vastly different than the situation Holland was in and Yzerman is going into in Detroit. The Lightning were a perennial Cup contender. That team took time to build. There's no doubt in my mind that the Red Wings could be (will be) a perennial Cup contender in a few years as well, but it's not going to happen overnight. Don't rush it. Continue to draft and develop. Make some trades to improve the team. Don't massively overpay in free agency for two players that are soon to be past their prime. Sure, they'll have some good years, but by the time this team is truly ready to compete, they will both be 30+. With Karlsson, there's the injury concerns. With Panarin, there's the loyalty concerns. I really hope we stay far away from both of these guys... -
The only team with as many NTC/NMC as the Detroit Red Wings (Ken Holland) is the Tampa Bay Lightning (Steve Yzerman)... Also, these clauses rarely prevent players from being traded. It just basically gives the player more control as to where they're going to get traded. Arguably the two worst NTC/NMC on our roster are Nielsen and Abdelkader. Nielsen has a 10-team no trade list. Hardly an issue. And assuming we don't make the playoffs, or Abby isn't among the top 9 forwards in time on ice, we can trade him to any team after next season. Same goes for Helm. Ericsson and Daley's contracts are done after next season. Basically, none of the contracts including clauses that Holland signed should really effect us much going forward.

I don't see it happening, but man, I really hope not...

Yzerman will not be acquiring any big names via free agency. It would be dumb to do so. Yzerman is not dumb. If Green can't go (I think he will be good after a long summer of rehap), we still have Dekeyser, Daley, Ericsson, *maybe* Kronwall, Hronek, Cholowski, plus others on the farm that could be called up. I'd much rather re-sign Witkowski or sign another filler for pennies than go after Karlsson, who I assume you're referring to since he's the only top pair defenseman available in free agency... -
This pretty much sums it up for me. Good coach, but massively overrated. His arrogance and stubbornness is what pisses me off the most. His systems are good, but his player deployment and situational awareness are atrocious in my opinion. I wouldn't want him back in Detroit, and yes, I'd prefer Blashill over Babcock.

I'm going to say 4-2 Canes, with the Caps peppering Mrazek with 40+ shots.

NO! I agree. Glendening would have been a good pickup for them. Howard would have also been a good pickup for the Flames... Gauthier sucks. I said before we ever drafted Rasmussen that's who he reminded me of. I've come off that a bit since drafting him, but unfortunately I can still see a lot of similarities. I sure as hell hope Ras becomes a better player than "The Goat"...

After dominating the regular season, Veleno has really cooled off in the playoffs, which is a little concerning. He only has 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) in 13 games, and all 12 came in the first two rounds. He's been completely shut down in the three games in the Conference Finals against Halifax. McIsaac has cooled a bit as well with just 8 points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 13 games. I get that everything ramps up during the playoffs, but still would have liked to see a little more out of both...

I'm not sure he'll ever be Lidstrom, but Heiskanen is an absolute stud. He would have looked amazing on our top pair with Hronek for the next 15+ years. Oh, what could have been... If we gained one extra point in any game during the 2016-17 season, we would have finished ahead of Dallas, thus winning the 3rd slot in the draft lottery, and likely would have taken Heiskanen... Pretty depressing to think about actually...

I don't think Yzerman will offer sheet anyone. He said, he's not looking for any quick fixes, so hopefully he stays true to that. I don't think we should offer sheet anyone, unless it's for less than $4,059,322 (2nd round pick compensation). The only player that might work on is Kasperi Kapanen, and the Leafs would likely match that anyway. I don't want to give up any 1st round picks that could potentially be top 10 (or top 3) in the next couple years. Trouba (or any other player) is not worth the small chance that we could have in drafting Lafrenier or any of the other top players of the 2020 draft.

How do you get "scoring droughts" from that? Even if his point production had fallen off "considerably" at that point in the season, he still finished 11th in WHL scoring in his draft year. Every single one of the 10 players ahead of him are 2-3 years older than him. That's impressive. Regardless of his point totals though, he's far and away my favorite player that could be available at 6, and I think his style of play, will transfer well to the NHL. I believe he has the raw tools and compete to be a legit top line center / winger. I love Newhook, but not at 6. He's my Veleno of last year. I'd love to trade up into the middle of the first round to get him, but maybe he could slip the way Veleno did last year. Although I highly doubt he drops all the way to 35...

What scoring droughts? He's been one of the better point producers in the WHL for his age group the past couple years. Currently has 3 goals, 7 points in 4 games in the U18's. Are his "scoring droughts" even a thing? And if they are, are they any more of a thing than any other "scorer" ever? He's one of the better north-south skaters in the draft, and can stick handle at top speed, has a good shot and is an underrated passer. I've been a huge fan for two years now. I really hope he's a Wing in two months...

Before Yzerman took over as general manager I had a strong feeling we were going to target Dach if he were available. Now I have no idea who we're going to target. For me, I still hope it's one of Byram or Cozens...

I'm all for trading for a defenseman like Trouba, but I hope Yzerman stays far away from any free agents. He's said that he's not looking for a quick fix in free agency, so I hope that's the case. I'd be all for that swap, but no way I want Nielsen on the cap for another 6 seasons... -
The Red Wings were given permission by the Lightning to talk to Yzerman back in March. I'm sure a lot of people in hockey circles knew he would be named the next GM in Detroit sooner than later.

BPA. No way Broberg lasts to the 2nd round, but I'd be all for moving up for him, Soderstrom, York or Harley...

They technically could, but I think a buyout would be more likely if there's no trade market.
