I think both would crack the lineup in the 2020-21 season, but that doesn't really matter much to me. I just see Cozens as the better all around player with the higher ceiling.

4/9 2019 Draft Lottery GDT - Red Wings vs The World - 8:00 PM ET (NBCSN)

This is such a dumb argument in my opinion. If a team could just "then start winning", why not skip the "just tank until they were eliminated" part, and "start winning"?... No bubble team is going to say, "F*** making the playoffs... We're going for that high pick"... -

I brought this up earlier this week in the "2019 Draft" Thread... I absolutely love the idea. You're wrong on one thing though. It's not based on each non playoff teams record after the trade deadline. It's based on when each team is officially eliminated from the playoffs... For instance, Ottawa was the first team mathematically eliminated, so they had 13 games to accumulate points, giving them the best odds at the top pick. Montreal and Arizona were both on the bubble and only played one game after being mathematically eliminated, giving them the lowest odds at the top pick. Here's the full standings breakdown that I posted in the other thread... OTT - 13 GP - 12 PTS - 3rd overall pick DET - 12 GP - 16 PTS - 1st overall pick LAK - 10 GP - 13 PTS - 2nd overall pick NJD - 10 GP - 9 PTS - 4th overall pick NYR - 8 GP - 7 PTS - 6th overall pick BUF - 8 GP - 5 PTS - 9th overall pick FLA - 5 GP - 8 PTS - 5th overall pick ANA - 4 GP - 6 PTS - 7th overall pick VAN - 4 GP - 5 PTS - 8th overall pick PHI - 4 GP - 0 PTS - 15th overall pick CHI - 3 - GP - 4 PTS - 10th overall pick EDM - 3 GP - 2 PTS - 12th overall pick MIN - 2 GP - 0 PTS - 14th overall pick MTL - 1 GP - 2 PTS - 11th overall pick ARI - 1 GP - 0 PTS - 13th overall pick -
I hope they lose in 3...

I'll take it! I'm much higher on Cozens than Dach, but I wouldn't be that surprised if there are teams that would take Dach over Cozens. To be honest, this draft could go any number of ways. I bet there will be a player most people would consider a lock to go top 5, slip out of the top 10...

Burke is a jackass, but I agree with him on this one... -
They're my 4 as well. Just bump Cozens up to the top, and that's my list...

Cozens can play on the wing, as he did most of his rookie season in Lethbridge. However, he has played center pretty well all of this season, so I'm not sure who is projecting him to the wing... Regardless, it will be up to whichever team drafts him to determine where he is best suited. If the Wings do end up drafting him, I'd be completely fine with him developing into a winger. We have Larkin as our 1C and one of Veleno or Athanasiou as our 2C going forward. With Zadina, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Rasmussen and Cozens as winger options, that could be a lethal top 6 in a few years...

We didn't get lucky in the draft lottery. However, there will be top-end talent available at 6. The question is, will we be lucky enough to pick one of them?... Top players that were available at 6 over the past 10 years (too early to tell on the last two drafts)... 2009 - Ekman-Larsson (6th) 2010 - Skinner (7th), Tarasenko (16th) 2011 - Scheifele (7th), Hamilton (9th), *Kucherov (58th)* 2012 - Forsberg (11th) 2013 - Monahan (6th) 2014 - Larkin (15th), Pastrnak (25th) 2015 - Werenski (8th), Rantanen (10th), Barzal (16th), Chabot (18th), Boeser (23rd), Aho (35th) 2016 - Tkatchuk (6th), Keller (7th), Sergachev (9th), McAvoy (14th), DeBrincat (39th) Some players / years obviously better than others, but there is always top-end talent available this high in the draft. And this seems like it could be another really deep draft, similar to the 2015 draft. I think a Scheifele (Cozens) or Werenski (Byram) caliber player could be available this year at 6. I'm pretty amped to add another big piece to the puzzle.

Not exactly... 2 more losses (in regulation) and we would have been 5th... 2 more losses (one in regulation and one in OT) and we would have been 1st. Like I said earlier, if only we knew that magic number before the draft lottery... -
I'm not going to say I'm "happy" we dropped to 6th, but I'm not going to piss and moan about it either. 6th was statistically the most likely landing spot, so whatever. We're getting a very good player at 6, so I'm happy about that.

Why can't it be both?...

Knight obviously isn't projected to be any more of a "bonafide stud" than any of the other guys going ahead of him... otherwise he'd be projected to go much higher... You take the best player available. And in this case, it would be any number of guys before Knight... Knight could be a Price calibre goalie. But he could also be a McCollum calibre goalie. Of all positions, goalies are the biggest crap shoot. Any of the guys that are projected to go in the top 10, could become elite. Only you would say that you're looking forward to our 2nd round picks more than our 6th overall pick... No we wouldn't. If we lost one more, we'd have whoever we're going to draft at 6th... -
He would be considered a top 10 talent in most drafts, but he'll likely fall around there. I don't see him going top 5. He reminds me of a right-handed Rasmussen to be honest. Big, good in front of the net, not the best skater, great work ethic, leader, etc. Which is why we'll probably end up drafting him... I'm really hoping Cozens or Byram fall to 6...

It didn't / doesn't... We could have lost two more games (one in OT), and picked 1st overall. If only we knew that was the magic number... We could have lost three more and picked 5th overall. OR We could have won two more games and picked 2nd overall. There was no way to know how the lottery would play out. Which is why I wasn't throwing a tantrum after every win (or loss)... We will get a very good player at 6. Why trade back to pick up a goaltender that is projected to go in the mid - late first round? -

Cozens or Byram for me. I'd be happy with any of Dach, Zegras, Turcotte or Podkolzin as well...

Oh well. It sucks but the odds were always against us, even if we did "tank". See Ottawa (Colorado). Like I said earlier, 4th to 6th isn't a big deal. We're getting a solid player and will instantly be our top prospect, right there with Zadina. I'd be happy with any of the top 7 or 8 guys.
