Shouldn't have tanked so hard... Two more wins and we would be in the top 3... -

I don't. Which is why I said "likely"... I'd be a little surprised if Dach goes top 5 to be honest.
-
Stay. Away. From. Free. Agency... No Karlsson. No Skinner. No overpayment. If Kronwall wants to come back for one more season. Sure, I guess. But if that's happening, one of Daley or Ericsson need to be moved or bought out. Let Vanek walk. If we want to bring Witkowski back as the 13th forward / 7th defenseman, sure.
-
Considering the top 5 likely won't go down like that, picking top 6 or maybe even 7, there should be at least one of those players still on the board.

Wouldn't be surprised to be honest...

Not unless he trades back. I don't see Holland picking Byram 1st overall...

That's great, but for me the NHL package is well worth the money. I haven't missed a Red Wings game in the past 10 years, but there are only about 20 games a season that I can sit down and watch live from start to finish. I'm either out for the night (watch it the next day), late getting home from hockey (an hour or so behind), or have to pause it multiple times during the game (to do dad stuff)...

I'm not sure how much power-play time Regula has gotten in London, but I know they were using him in a net-front role earlier in the season. Probably because like you said, Bouchard and Boqvist were eating up most of the minutes on the point.

I don't see much Ovechkin in him. I see him as more of a Tarasenko type player...

Sure, they get the "best chance" at the top pick now, but that chance is still really low. They're playing against the field, and have less than a 1 in 5 shot at the top pick. There's a 50/50 chance the worst team in the league gets a top 3 pick or the 4th pick. Those aren't great odds... Any team can beat any team on any night. If the "worst team" in the league has 15 games to accumulate points, and the "best of the worst teams" has 1 or 2 games to accumulate points, who do you think will end up with more points? Obviously the former... With the "Gold Plan", no team is likely to move up or down more than a few spots, especially with the motivation to win every night.

I cancelled my cable a few years ago and I'll never go back. I get the NHL package every year for hockey and have an android box for TV / movies. It's amazing to me that there are still people paying for cable with all the cheaper (or free) options available... Podkolzin seems to be the next guy on most people's list. For me it's Cozens though...

a) I'd love to see Yzerman come back to Detroit. But unlike most, I'm also okay with Holland staying in Detroit. It killed me when he went to Tampa 9 years ago, so I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't bother me to see him go to another organization again. b) I'll be a little disappointed if we don't win one of the three lottery spots, but I know the odds are against us, so it's whatever. But when it comes to dropping from 4th to 6th, it wouldn't really bother me much at all. I think regardless where we draft outside the top 2, we're getting a really good player. c) I hope we don't do anything of significance on July 1st. I think we should stay far away from any and all free agents. d) I'd like to see a trade or two, but I'm not expecting any, so whatever.

Yzerman made over $65M in his playing career. That's not including anything he's made in endorsements and post playing career. He's made $2.4M per year as general manager of the Lightning. He's NOT hurting for a dollar... There's no way his annual expenses is anything close to $5M... He definitely owns everything, and has minimal bills / payments. He's also 53 years old (54 next month), and getting to the age where most people start counting down the days to retirement. Besides all that, he has stated that he's moving home to spend more time with family. I'm sure he'd be quite content to take a step away from the game for a year... Not saying that's what he will do, just that he could do it...

Why not?

Not at all. I've hated the draft lottery (or more so "tanking") for years, and that wouldn't change if Detroit won it. Fans cheering for their team to lose, or even worse tuning out altogether is terrible for the league. If we were in Ottawa's position I would still be clamoring for the "Gold Plan". With a mere 18.5%, I'll bet every time that the last place team doesn't win the lottery. I'd have the same mindset if we were sitting in dead last. Hence why I hate tanking and the current system in general. ALL games would be much more exciting down the stretch. Imagine the last game of the season between two bottom teams and winning gets the first overall pick. Much more exciting than hoping your team loses so they have a couple percent advantage in getting the first overall pick... This would also change the way teams approach the trade deadline. Teams would maybe be a little more reluctant to trade away rental players, putting a premium on return. In my opinion, something needs to change with the current system, and that won't change if we happen to win the lottery tonight.
