Steve Yzerman to step down as GM for TBL. Will serve in "Advisory Role".
krsmith17 replied to kliq's topic in General
at any of the rumors / speculation that Yzerman is going anywhere but Detroit... Yzerman is not going to New York, Buffalo, Ottawa, Edmonton, or any other city / team that people are throwing out there... -
I don't think I'd go that far, but I'd be thrilled if we draft Cozens. Can't wait to see how things play out on Tuesday...

Sabres beat us on Saturday, and finish ahead of us in the standings... We gain a whole 1% in the draft lottery and Red Wings fans rejoice... Three days later the Sabres win the draft lottery, despite the significant advantage we gained over them on the last day of the season... We drop down to 6th... I know what you said was meant tongue in cheek, but f*** scratching players, f*** tanking... Let the balls fall where they may... -
First tie breaker is ROW, which they would both have over us, meaning we finish lower in the standings (higher lottery odds).
-
This. Also, I said 36, not 38, meaning I think we will finish right where we are now, 27th. I do think we'll move up in the draft lottery, but that only effects the 1st round, not the later rounds.

Not every game. That's my point. Vanek is having a bad game? Sit his ass. Athanasiou is having a bad game. Sit his ass. I DON'T GIVE A S*** HOW THE PLAYERS FEEL ABOUT IT! IT ONLY MATTERS HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT!... And I want equal treatment of players, no matter the age... end rant...

Hey, me and the Bobfather have the same top 10, just different order... I'm really liking how little attention Newhook is getting. He will be our Veleno of this draft, and drop all the way to 36...

I agree that a lot of coaches do it, but I guess that just means I disagree with a lot of coaches... A s***ty veteran should not be immune to being sat / scratched, just because they've been around forever. To me, that tells the young guys, that once you've got that big contract, you can sit back and be complacent... In my opinion, if you're going to sit a young player for a boneheaded turnover, you need to sit a veteran for a boneheaded turnover...

Svechnikov will start next season in GR, and will likely have at least a couple others ahead or right there with him competing for a spot. Lindstrom is still a couple years away. Regula, Pearson (Turgeon) and Smith are competing for bottom pair / 4th line roles. Should be easy enough to make room for some of them if / when they earn it. I've always liked what I've seen from Turgeon. Hoping he and / or Pearson can steal a spot from Abdelkader / Helm / Glendening / Ehn / de la Rose / Kuffner over the next year or so...
-
Yes. You can retain up to 50% of the cap hit on any contract in a trade, regardless how long the contract is.
-
Which I'd be fine with. I'm not saying we MUST buyout Abdelkader. Just that if we need cap space and / or a roster spot, the option is there. Also, anything longer than 2 years, I wouldn't do it. So no, I wouldn't buy out Abby this summer.

The Pens are going to lose their next two games (vs Red Wings and Rangers). The Canes are going to win at least one of their next two games (vs. Devils and Flyers). The Jackets OR Habs are going to win their two games (vs. Rangers and Sens) OR (vs. Caps and Leafs). Pens miss the playoffs... ... and win the draft lottery with a 1% chance... -
If there's an option to buy him out without penalty (amnesty buyout), I'd do it without hesitation. That option might be available after the next lockout... The thing is, even with a regular buyout, the penalty isn't that significant in the final year (or two) of the contract. Buying him out this summer, or next would be a big mistake, but I think it could be a viable option in 2-3 years from now. Cap hit on a buy-out with 2 years remaining... 2021-22 - $2.25M 2022-23 - $2.25M 2023-24 - $1M 2024-25 - $1M Cap hit on a buy-out with 1 year remaining... 2022-23 - $2.25M 2023-24 - $1M The cap-hit is very manageable, it doesn't last for infinity years, and it gives you roster flexibility going forward...
-
Not ideal, but as long as they're all one year deals, I'm fine with it. We need to make room for a lot of kids in the next year or so... Out: Vanek, Kronwall, Ericsson, Daley, Green. In: Zadina, Veleno, Rasmussen, Cholowski, McIsaac, 2019 1st round pick.

IF we draft at 7, I think at least one of my top 6 will be available. And IF we don't draft top 2, I'm hoping Cozens is available...

My top 10... 1. Jack Hughes 2. Kaapo Kakko 3. Dylan Cozens 4. Alex Turcotte 5. Trevor Zegras 6. Bowen Byram 7. Vasili Podkolzin 8. Kirby Dach 9. Phillip Broberg 10. Matthew Boldy Top 3 are the only 3 that have been set in stone for a while now. The other 7 change depending on the day... Regardless where we end up picking, we should get a really good player...
-
Actually not a bad idea. That would be a pretty decent loophole for some rebuilding teams to take advantage of. I really don't like that buy-outs have to be paid out over double the years remaining on the contract. Ideally, there will be another compliance / amnesty buyout given to each team after the next lockout. I hope there isn't another lockout, but at this point, I think it's inevitable...

Hughes to Detroit. It's happening. Only have to wait 5 days for it to become official. Well, technically 78 days until "official", but you get the point...

Still only an 18% chance he goes to Colorado. I'll bet on them slipping to 3rd... Hopefully...
