He COULD NOT be sent down to Grand Rapids, which is what he was referring to...
-
Got it. Never trade for prospects because their NHL projection is up in the air. You never know what you're getting. So many dumb GM's in the NHL making dumb trades... If only they were as smart as kipwinger... No, I like anyone's comments that I agree with. I completely agree with this...

Brannstrom is playing in the AHL. He sucks. Rasmussen is playing in the NHL. He's realgud.

Evander Kane jumps Chara; subsequently turns into a punching bag

Jack Edwards is the worst. Kane didn't get it near as bad as he made it seem... -
And I've already explained why he IS better now... What's your point? Who cares who's better now. It only matters who projects to be better in the long term. Most would agree that Hughes has the higher ceiling, which is why you should make that trade every time. You wouldn't though because the older forward is playing in the NHL, while the younger defenseman is only play in the NCAA... So short-sighted... And you think you would make a good GM? Filip Hronek is playing better than Quinn Hughes at a higher level? Well no s***. He's two years older... We literally have nobody in our organization like Quinn Hughes either. Sure there are players that are similar, just like there are players that are similar to Rasmussen. You've always said that Mantha is a great net-front forward. Now, all of a sudden he's not? What about Bertuzzi. He's better at that role than Rasmussen NOW (because he's older and more experienced)... No, actually I said "I think Hughes will end up being a better player than Rasmussen. " And then you said that I said "he is already a better player", which I didn't... You did misinterpret what I was saying. So you "clearly don't think that Rasmussen IS or WILL BE better than Hughes, but you wouldn't make that trade. Got it. Makes so much sense now...
-
And the fact that Hughes was drafted a year later, is six months younger, and it generally takes defensemen longer to develop... You're acting as if Rasmussen IS and WILL BE the better player just because he's in the NHL (probably shouldn't be), and Hughes is not... Similar to the Kotkaniemi vs Zadina debate. Some people think Kotkaniemi is and will be the better player, just because he's in the NHL and Zadina, up until this week, was in the AHL. It's dumb. I think most people would agree that Hughes has a higher ceiling and would take him over Rasmussen. You disagree and that's fine. Also, this.

No, like I said, he made one pre-season, but has since made another mid-season ranking, which Hughes is who he considers the top prospect across the entire league. I didn't say he is "already" a better player, although I can see why you would interpret it that way. What I meant is, at the same age, I think Hughes is / was a better prospect, and I do think he will end up being the better player. You mentioned "slam dunk" earlier. So I assume by your last comment there, you think it's a "slam dunk" that Rasmussen will be the undisputed better player between the two? I disagree. Hope you're right though, because that deal would never happen...
-
Why do you keep bringing up Quinn Hughes "name" like it's some sort of household name? I don't care if his name was Joe Schmoe, he's a very highly regarded prospect, and for good reason. Based on what? Pronman ranked Hughes number 7 and Rasmussen number 52 in his pre-season rankings, and number 1 in his mid-season rankings. Just one man's opinion I know, but one that most people (including yourself) put a lot of stock in. Scoring at a slower clip than Werenski? So? Werenski is well on his way to be an elite defenseman. Hughes might not ever be that good (he might be), but he'll likely be a very good defenseman. No one said this trade would be a slam dunk, but I would make it because I think Hughes will end up being a better player than Rasmussen. Sarcasm I'm assuming?

2/26 Carry That Weight GDT - Canadiens @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM ET

Looking forward to see what Zadina can do with (hopefully) more minutes in the top 6 tonight. Also, really looking forward to see Bowey play his first game as a Red Wing. -
Absof***inglutely!

I don't know how you can consider trading a top 10 pick (9th overall) for another top 10 pick (7th overall) a "significant price"... I'd say there are about 6 forwards ahead of Rasmussen as most "promising young player" in the organization. I wouldn't trade him for just anything, but for a better player (regardless of position or area of need), you bet I would. Hughes wouldn't be my first choice of trade targets, but I think he would be an upgrade over anyone we currently have. You should always be looking to upgrade any way you can, and I think most would agree that Hughes is a better player / prospect than Rasmussen.
-
Quinn Hughes isn't really a "big name"... yet. No bigger than Rasmussen or any other top 10 pick. No one is suggesting to "throw / break the bank". It was a simple one for one trade proposal. It's not like he asked if we should trade Larkin for Hughes... If you took the names out of it and said Player A (projects to be a 2nd line winger) vs Player B (projects to be a top 3 defenseman), most would choose player B.

Yeah, extending Howard is a must, and 2-3 years would be ideal, hopefully to a similar (or slightly less) cap hit. Kronwall will never be a big point producer again, and he shouldn't be relied on to play big minutes, but in a 3rd pair, penalty killing role, he's fine. I'd be okay with re-signing him if there weren't such a logjam on the back end. We need to make room for Cholowski and Hronek, and with Green, DeKeyser, Daley and Ericsson already under contract beyond this season, there just isn't room for Kronwall. If you want to trade, waive or buy-out one of Daley or Ericsson, I guess I'd be okay with Kronwall coming back for one more season. I think it's time to move on though...

I'm sure Vancouver would have no problem throwing McDavid in that deal... not sure about Edmonton though...

The lottery only applies to the first round. Round 2-7 revert back to the original standings in reverse order. Regardless, Florida's 2nd round pick will most certainly be better than San Jose's. Great news! -

... if only Holland thought of that... -
Because Holland is lazy and he sucks...
-
You missed the part where I said "MAYBE" Nyquist was only willing to waive his NTC to go to San Jose... I don't know what happened 100%... That's the point. None of us do. But sometimes we like to pretend we do and freak out when when what we think "should" happen, doesn't happen... I get it. You wanted more for Nyquist. We all did. But to act as if Holland didn't is absurd. He got what he felt was going to be the best offer on the table. Maybe he's wrong. But maybe he's right, and if he waited until today, he would have only got a 2nd and a throwaway prospect. I'd rather the 2nd and 3rd, that can become another 2nd...
-
You missed the part where I said, maybe Nyquist was only willing to waive his NTC to go to San Jose... Nyquist held all the power, and when he negotiated that NTC into his contract, he had every right to take advantage of it... which is why Holland should stop giving out so many, at least FULL NTC's... Maybe one of the teams you mentioned was willing to give up a 1st. That doesn't mean Holland could make the trade if Nyquist wasn't willing to go there. According to many reports, there was quite a bit of interest in Nyquist. You can't really think that Holland had better offers on the table, but decided to trade him to San Jose where he was getting less of a return anyway...
-
Who's left that "could" be traded today? Howard? Daley? Kronwall? Glendening? Vanek?... The only place that makes sense for Howard is Calgary. Maybe a deal gets done there... Daley sucks and I doubt he gets moved, but I'd be happy with a late pick. I doubt Kronwall gets moved. He likely wants to retire a Wing, and if so, he deserves it. I'd be okay with trading Glendening, but only if it's for a return similar to Jensen / Nyquist. I doubt many teams are interested in Vanek, but with the "tweak" yesterday, Holland might have been getting some calls...
-
I don't think anyone should have truly been expecting a 1st. Sure, we were all "hoping" it would happen, but it wasn't likely given the market. I agree that maybe Holland should have waiting until later today, but maybe Nyquist was only willing to waive for San Jose, and they were only willing to give up a 2nd and 3rd. Maybe Wilson said take it or leave it. If Holland wasn't willing to make the deal he was going to New Jersey for Johansson. And if he wasn't willing to make the deal he would have been risking getting nothing (or even less) for him today...

Meh, I was hoping for more, but I guess a 2nd, plus was all any of us were expecting. Hoped a team might cough up a 1st, but knew it was a bit of a pipe dream. Well I guess we'll all be rooting for the Sharks to make the finals now... 4 picks in the top 62 is still great. Hopefully Holland is smart enough to package a couple of those picks to move up into the 1st though. This team needs quality over quantity. -

It's legal in Canada as well, but you still can't smoke it with a lot of occupations. You can get fired from most jobs if it shows up on a drug test. I would assume professional hockey would probably fall in that category... Not saying I agree or disagree, but I doubt anyone on the Red Wings openly smokes marijuana...
