Yes, anyone signed to an NHL contract (one-way or two-way) count toward the 50-man roster limit. That list includes Megan and McIlrath, as well as other 'not really considered prospects', Pope, Sadowy, Elson, Puempel, Terry, Chelios and Lashoff. We're currently at 47/50. McIsaac is already under contract, but yes Veleno will need to be signed this summer. I don't think Van Pottelberghe comes over. From everything I've heard and read, he has no interest in playing in North America and is content to stay in Switzerland. No big loss. I would say Larsson, Eliasson and Petruzzelli are all ahead of him anyway.

Nah, I wouldn't do it.

Oh definitely. There's no way you can demote a young guy like Vanek... I don't care if Zadina gets "top six" necessarily, as long as he's not on a line with scrubs... I'd be okay with... Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha Vanek - Nielsen - Nyquist Athanasiou - Rasmussen - Zadina Abdelkader - Glendening - Helm

They can and probably would trade them though. They could trade their rights, the same way you can trade any UFA's negotiating rights when you know they're not going to sign before July 1st. It would likely include some sort of conditional pick. I think either would be thrilled to sign in Detroit, original six team with a long history of winning, starting to build a solid young core, new building, etc. Trouba is another player Holland should be targetting for sure. Not sure which "Michigan boy" you're referring to that we could possibly trade for Trouba though... Larkin? Hell no... DeKeyser? Hard no from Cheveldayoff... If we're going to get Trouba, I think it would come through free agency.

Fabbro or Fox would be an amazing get for this team, but I doubt either will just walk when eligible. I would think Poile or Waddell would know whether or not they want to sign before they're eligible to hit free agency. One thing though is that the Preds and Canes have arguable the best d-corps in the league, so they could probably afford to trade them. If I were Holland, these guys would be big targets for me. With Hronek, Cholowski, McIsaac and Bowey all being 23 and under, adding another high-end defenseman in that age range would be huge... Cholowski - Fabbro / Fox DeKeyser - Hronek McIsaac - Bowey Not a bad top six in theory... with the possibility that any of Lindstrom, Regula, Barton, etc. develop into NHLers as well. So I guess according to this, Nashville and Carolina would have another full year before they have to make a decision on Fabbro or Fox?...

Nick Jensen + 2019 5th Round Pick (BUF) Traded to WSH for Madison Bowey + 2020 2nd Round Pick

Where is this talk about Bowey's skating being a cause for concern coming from?... "Bowey is a dynamic defenseman who has continued to improve his overall game. His best asset is his skating abilities, which he uses with and without the puck...""Bowey is mobile along the blueline, and makes it difficult for opposing forwards to cover him because he could move laterally or move down the boards with the puck in a hurry. He has so many options due to his speed, that opponents are half a step late in trying to read what his next move will be...""Bowey is a gifted defenseman with a lot of upside. He still has a few kinks in his game, but there are some scouts who rave about him. He is a quality skater, if not high end, with a powerful stride, good balance, four-way bursts, and above-average top speed that enables him to close gaps quickly. He shows a willingness to engage, that along with a solid strength level, can help him erase checks off of pucks effectively. He also makes plays as a stick checker. Bowey has very good ability as a puck mover, whether he is rushing the puck out of his own zone, or moving it around on the power play. When he is on his game, his offensive hockey sense can be sterling. He has what one scout describes as a heavy shot from the blue line, adding to his multi-dimensional offensive ability. However, scouts have concerns about his defensive play, particularly in his risky decision-making—he sometimes gambles ineffectively when deciding to pinch or rush. His defensive zone play is not bad, but he is inconsistent with his positioning. Still, it is important to note that he did improve on that skill in the second half of this season. Very smooth skater already has a pro stride… Does a great job advancing the puck and using his agility in defensive coverage… Not an elite offensive player but should be a capable 2nd unit PP player… Possesses tremendous athletic upside… Needs to continue to improve dzone positioning. http://www.mynhldraft.com/2013/NHL-Draft-P I think Bowey is more than just a throw-in like some people seem to be suggesting. He is a bit of a reclamation project, but the raw skill is definitely there. The biggest question for me, is like others have mentioned, can he sort out any off-ice issues, and get his game back on track. I think he can. He was projected to be a top pair defenseman just a few short years ago. I'd say top four is still possible, but at worst, a solid bottom pair defenseman. Which is all Jensen ever was, and he's 5 years younger. Right now, I'd say this looks like a very good trade by Holland, and it could be an absolute steal if Bowey lives up to the hype a few years ago... He's still only 23. Jensen was what? 26 when he finally cracked the Red Wings full time? Looking forward to see him suit up in the next few games... -

-
Same. I really like Bowey. Huge return!
-
For Madison Bowey and a 2020 2nd... Wow Kenny!!!
-
Kings are already there... Pick 2 in 2019 > Pick 10 in 2015.
-
Calgary is obviouslu the likely destination if he gets moved, but with games still remaining before the Monday deadline, anything can happen. Doubtful at this point, but if any of the contenders lose their number one goalie, he could still go there as well.

This Duchene trade looks like it could be great news for Detroit. It looks like two of the big forward names (Duchene and Panarin) are off the board, raising Nyquist's trade value. And Bobrovski may be staying put now as well, leaving Howard as the only real viable trade option in goal. Why sigh? That's great news. Another forward off the board. I hope Hayes gets moved next.

This trade should have waited about 6 hours... Columbus are in Ottawa tonight. They should have waiting until midway through warmups and just told Duchene to switch jerseys...

I think Abby and Helm are good to go tonight. I was thinking they would be giving someone else down there a look. Hopefully not Zadina... Not yet... -

Not that I care, but why? Someone else coming up??? -
Get the f*** outta here with that s***... Holland will get us a 1st round pick for Gus Gus... Nyquist isn't going to be the same player he is now, when we're ready to compete... We don't "need" Nyquist now. We need to better our draft position and acquire picks. Whatever we get in a Nyquist trade could be just as, or more valuable in 3 years time when we're ready to compete...
