This is pretty much where I'm at as well. We have Larkin and Veleno (hopefully) as our future top 2C's. But more than that, I just think Rasmussen's style of play is better suited on the wing. This is not a knock on Ras, because I think he will be a beast for us. Yup, samezies.

Kotkaniemi has a goal, 2 assists and 4 shots on goal in 5 pre-season games. That's pretty good, but I'm not sure I'd consider that sort of production "REALLY" good. I mean, Zadina has 2 goals (one being an OT winner), an assist and 9 shots on goal in 5 pre-season games, and we're all pretty "meh" on him so far. Some, including yourself even think he'd benefit from a season in the AHL before eventually (hopefully) becoming a star in the NHL. I still say Zadina was the right pick, even if we did move up in the draft lottery and end up with the 3rd overall pick. Kotkaniemi does look like a good pick for Montreal though. It's not like they picked Barrett Hayton... Curious, where do you think Rasmussen will end up in the lineup 2-3 years from now? Center or wing? 1st / 2nd / 3rd line?

I completely agree with the bolded. However, I still think Abdelkader is / was overpaid on both AAV and term. It's not as bad as some people like to make it seem, but it's not good either. In my opinion, Nielsen, Abdelkader, Helm, DeKeyser and Ericsson are all overpaid by varying degrees, but none are at all egregious.

Weird... I could have sworn I wanted to see him play one more season... Sure, his game hasn't been quite at the level it once was, but he was still a very effective player the past few seasons. There's no real reason to believe if he had played, his game would have dropped off much more from this past season. I think he would have still put up around 50 points. That along with his leadership on and off the ice would have been invaluable to the young players. He was also only 40 points away from the 1000 point plateau. It would have been pretty special to see him hit that mark. To say that you didn't want to see him play one more season is very confusing to me...

Love or hate Howard, it would be a smart move to trade him this season and acquire assets. Assuming he puts together another decent season, and a team is in need of a goalie at or before the deadline... Bernier is a capable starter for a non-playoff team. Much like Howard, he's not going to win or lose many games on his own, but he'll keep his team in most games, which is all you want as a bottom third of the league team. I think Sateri could be a viable backup options as well. If we can trade Jimmy for a 2nd, or even 3rd round pick by mid-season, I think you'd be foolish not to...

I agree. However, the people that hate on Abdelkader have a hard time separating his on ice contribution to his contract. Abdelkader is a fine middle six forward, but he's paid about a mil too much. I don't think many people would have a problem with Abby if he were making around $3.25M for another 2-3 seasons. Regardless, he's not going anywhere, so people might as well get used to him (and DeKeyser) as career Red Wings. Unless Holland steps down over the next few seasons, then I guess anybody can be moved... Which would lead into why so many people hate on Holland, but that's a whole other topic...

He's been outstanding. It's nice to see him produce, but it's his poise with the puck that I've been most impressed with. He should absolutely be number one in the pecking order.

Who would have guessed that of the five, including Kronwall, that he'd be the only one healthy enough to go to start the season... I'm assuming you're being sarcastic? None of the kids (Cholowski, Hicketts, Sulak, Hronek, Saarijarvi) are waiver eligible this season. They can all be called up / sent down freely. I'm excited to see what some of them can do in a regular season game or two. I'd love to see Cholowski stick with the big club.

I so badly hope they trade him for the Adam Larsson equivalent... like, I dunno, maybe Danny DeKeyser...

I seen that, but Seabrook definitely didn't have possession on the play. If it were a delayed penalty call, the play would have kept going and it would have been a good goal. Oh well, no big deal. If it were regular season, Athanasiou would have been credited with the assist and 5 points in the game. If they're going to be that stingy with assists though, Toews and Keith shouldn't have been credited with assists on Kahun's goal either since the puck hit Hicketts after deflecting off of Toews stick...

Why was Athanasiou's first assist taken away from him? Goal: Vanek Assist: Abdelkader WTF? There was also the goal that Toews scored from behind the net.
