Hey man, if you can recall my m.o. has changed quite a bit over the years. I used to always recommend prospects stay down longer, but since we're finally rebuilding, and the league in general is changing (getting much younger), I think these players are ready much sooner. And yes, I think Svechnikov is more than ready, and if utilized properly, he could be a 15-20-35 point producer this season.

I would. Howard is as good a stop-gap as we're going to find. Give him another 2-3 year extension, and hope one of Larsson, Petruzzelli, or Fulcher step up in that time.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did. Not sure if my paper boy is as reliable a source as Jonas' though. My paper boy is 15 years old, and has never stepped foot inside of Michigan, let alone the LCA. I can't say for sure where he gets his information... Seemed legit though.

I'd be happy with all additions minus the "24 goal scorer". IF we happen to sign Vanek or any other top nine 34 year old, you'll see how many Red Wings fans out there are "as hardcore as me"... I still doubt it happens, but yeah, I'd be a little pissed if Holland signs any aging vets in favor of promoting ready kids...

Jesus Christ dude, let fans fan. Adding another top 10 pick is doable. And I'm with BinMucker and MileHigh, I'd be EXTREMELY happy if we were somehow able to pull that off. Sorry if that bothers you... Seriously though, I hope we stay at 6, and move up from 30. Even if we get into the top 15-20, I'd be EXTREMELY happy. One of the defensemen at 6 and Veleno or Bokk in that range would be great as well. I'd add Kotkaniemi as well, although I think he and Zadina will be gone before 6. This would be my dream scenario...

It's funny how much things can change in just a couple months. Holland went from saying the goal is to get younger and add 2-5 young players, to not wanting to fill the roster with prospects, instead add old, washed up UFA's... because veteran leadership. I'm not saying we should get rid of every vet, and just play the kids, but we need to get much younger. It's ridiculous that a team that is supposedly rebuilding is also the oldest team in the league, looking to get older... I agree that we shouldn't try to bottom out, and we should try to improve on last season, but we don't need to sign Vanek or Kovalchuk to do that. We need growth from within. We need Larkin and Mantha to take another step. We need Athanasiou, Bertuzzi, Rasmussen and Svechnikov to contribute offensively. We need Zetterberg to continue doing Zetterberg things. We don't need to *add* any old guys. That's just my opinion.

I'm looking long term, you're looking short term. Holland said he was going to look long term and insert up to 5 kids into the lineup. Which is exactly what *most* fans want to see. So let me get this straight... If it came down to it, would you seriously choose a 34 year old Vanek over a 21 year old Svechnikov? We need to build for the future, and not worry about wins and losses in a season where it shouldn't matter.

Absolutely, but Svechnikov > Vanek, and that's probably what it would come down to. If we sign a player like Vanek and send Svechnikov down, f*** Holland.

Was this even a reputable source reporting this? I highly doubt Bowman has any interest in giving up the 8th overall just to dump a contract. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen, I just don't see either sides being interested in such a deal.

I wouldn't take Bouchard over Zadina, but I'd be open to trading down, acquiring assets and taking Bouchard in the 7-9 range.
