Doubt he plays. Griffins are already overloaded as it is.

    Targets for the Wings

I don't want Shattenkirk either, not a huge fan, but saying he's not a 1D because of his +/- is just laughable. As for your proposed Trouba trade, Cheveldayoff would laugh his ass off and hang up with an offer like that... right after he said "Done Deal" of course... A 20 year old top 6 center, a 24 year old offensive defenseman (that could flourish if given the opportunity), and a top 10 pick that could become a top 3? F***! I'd love to have Trouba here too, but talk about massive over payment...

As it is. Your 24 man roster.

So we shouldn't waive Nyquist and Tatar?...

As it is. Your 24 man roster.

True, but they're obviously all better than Nyquist, Tatar, Abdelkader, Green, Kronwall and Ericsson...

Which UFA's do the Wings re-sign?

    Why? Because he's gargantuan?

    Griffins Calder Cup Playoffs Thread

In my opinion, yes for sure. I'd love to see something like this... Bertuzzi - Nosek - Frk Lorito - Holmstrom - Svechnikov Tangradi - Street - Criscuolo Smith - Turgeon - Callahan Ford / Campbell Hicketts - Russo Lashoff - Hronek Cholowski - Paetsch / Renouf / McIlrath Unfortunately, I doubt Smith or Cholowski will see much, if any time during the playoffs...

Which UFA's do the Wings re-sign?

I think Radulov ends up staying in Montreal, unless another team throws crazy money at him. Grigorenko and Tryamkin are meh, neither are an upgrade over what we currently have. The only two, I'd love to have on this team are Kuznetsov and Orlov, and there's zero chance Washington don't re-sign both. What about our very own Svechnikov? I'd prefer him on the roster over everyone except Kuznetsov...

    Cholo to debut with Griffs.

Yeah, I have no idea why they went with 7 defensemen with so many players (forwards and defensemen) healthy scratched, but Hicketts played most of the game on the left wing. Found that kind of odd. I agree on Hronek, kid looks really good. I'm not sure exactly how much ice time he had, but I don't think he had any more than one shift in the first period. Maybe because of all the penalties. But he did see more time as the game progressed. He didn't really stand out much. Skates well, moves the puck well, but looked lost in his own zone on a few occasions. Plenty of time to work on his defensive deficiencies, his offensive game looks to be on point though.

3-1 Griffins. 3 assists for Svechnikov. Goals and assist for Bertuzzi.

    Cholo to debut with Griffs.

The pairings are listed as... Allen - McCarron Cholowski - McIlrath Renouf - Hronek But I would assume that's the exact opposite the minutes would be distributed. I think he will definitely see some power-play time with so many regulars being healthy scratched tonight. No idea how that works but I wouldn't think they would burn a full year by just playing one game...

Which UFA's do the Wings re-sign?

Drew Miller - let walk. Ben Street - re-sign as a vet for Grand Rapids. He's been great. Mitch Callahan - re-sign to fight for the 12th / 13th forward spot in Detroit. Joe Vitale - he's done. Eddie Pasquale - let him walk to make room for Paterson. Dylan McIlrath - re-sign to fight for the 6th / 7th defense spot in Grand Rapids. There's also some pending RFA's, aside from Tatar, Athanasiou and Ouellet, who will all be re-signed... Robbie Russo - re-sign for top pair in Grand Rapids / first call-up to Detroit. Brian Lashoff - re-sign as a vet for Grand Rapids. Martin Frk - re-sign to fight for 3rd line in Detroit / 13th forward. Jake Paterson - re-sign to backup Coreau in Grand Rapids. There are also some pending UFA's that were strictly property of the Griffins... Kyle Criscuolo - re-sign for top 6 in Grand Rapids. Matt Ford - re-sign as a vet for Grand Rapids. Colin Campbell / Mike Borkowski / Dominik Shine - re-sign 1 or 2 to fight for 12th / 13th forward spot in Grand Rapids / depth in Toledo. Nathan Paetsch / Conor Allen / Matt Caito - let walk.

    Cholo to debut with Griffs.

Cholowski will play tonight in the Griffs final regular season game, paired with McIlrath.

Ken Holland on 97.1 this morning.

I disagree. It's not just about freeing up the cap space, it's about freeing up a roster spot. I don't think it wouldn't take much to entice Vegas to take on a player like Ericsson. They will have to take a few big contracts in order to reach the cap floor, so if a team is willing to part with a mid round pick, they would be smart to take it. If we could convince them to take Ericsson for one of our 3rd round picks, it would be worth it just to free up the roster spot. We could even eat some salary, because again, it's not about the cap space. I don't want to see another season of a younger, in my opinion better player like Sproul riding pine again, because Ericsson has experience.

As it is. Your 24 man roster.

I'd like the option to make a trade or two, but only using players in the system? Not many changes for me... Nyquist - Zetterberg - Mantha Tatar - Nielsen - Athanasiou Svechnikov - Larkin - Nosek Abdelkader - Helm - Sheahan Frk - Glendening Ouellet - Green DeKeyser - Jensen Kronwall - Sproul Ericsson Mrazek Howard

Ken Holland on 97.1 this morning.

Again, there are no "untradeable" contracts. If Holland wanted to get rid of Howard (not saying he does) he would be able to. Same goes for Ericsson, Abdelkader, or whoever else people think are on "bad" contracts. It has already been reported that Vegas are willing to take on some "bad" contracts, as long as they receive some sort of compensation, in the way of assets (prospects / picks) in return. Vegas is not the only team that would do such a deal either. There are also cap floor teams that would make / have made similar deals. Holland has already dismissed the idea in his end of season presser, but I think you need to take anything Holland (or any GM) says in interviews with a grain of salt. It hasn't really been Holland's style, but you never know what he'll do now that the streak has ended. I'm hoping to see some changes in his approach, I guess we'll see over the next few months...

    2017 Draft

Scott Reedy and Dylan Samberg are a couple names I like from the mid rounds.

Why? And WHY? No thanks on Ryan, unless he comes extremely cheap (he won't). And hell no to Drew...

Ken Holland on 97.1 this morning.

No what? No he shouldn't or no he won't? I'd say yes he should, and likely will. Definitely a possibility we at least start the season with both again though...

Ken Holland on 97.1 this morning.

No contract is untradeable. If Holland really wanted to, he could easily move Ericsson and Howard this summer. Howard likely will be moved, whether it be through the expansion draft or trade to another team. I'm one of the few that doesn't think Ericsson or his contract is awful. I think he's a decent 3rd pairing defenseman that is mildly overpaid. He could easily be moved, I just don't think Holland wants to move him.

    Detroit's first rounder.

This is terrible. There are no generational talents (as we know of right now) in this year's draft, and that includes Patrick. I'd even go so far as to say that Patrick probably won't end up being the best player in this draft. It could be Hischier, it could be Vilardi, or it could be some 2nd rounder that many haven't even heard of. In fact, I'd say there are several teams that wouldn't even take Patrick if they were to win the 1st overall lottery pick. Pretty much every single year, outside of the generational Ovechkin, Crosby, McDavid, Matthews drafts there are players picked 2 or later that would go number 1 in a re-draft, or at least an argument could be made for other players. 2010, I'd take Seguin (2) over Hall, and I'd even consider Tarasenko (16) or Kuznetsov (26). 2011, I'd take Scheifele (7) and Hamilton (9) over Nugent-Hopkins, and I'd also consider Landeskog (2) or Kucherov (58!). 2012, I'd take any of Galchenyuk (3), Reilly (5), Lindholm (6), Trouba (9), Forsberg (11) over Yakupov, and that's just to name a few. 2013, MacKinnon was a good pick, but an argument could be made for either Barkov (2), Jones (4) or Monahan (6). That's just looking at a few recent drafts. Point is, there's no guarantee with any of these players, and that includes Nolan Patrick. I'd be the first one aboard the hype train if we won the lottery and drafted Patrick, but to say anything less is a failure is laughable. This may be a "weak draft", but there are still a ton of promising young kids available for the picking.
