    Jurco injured

Yes, Jurco played on a line with Athanasiou and Tangradi during that 5 game stint with GR last season. I hope he can put up similar numbers (5 goals, 4 assists in 5 games) in these couple games... Not bad for a player with no skill...

    Jurco injured

Haha not even worth it... Jurco obviously has no skill. Like I said, Ott / Miller clearly >>>>> Jurco...

    Jurco injured

Of course he will... because GRIT > Skill... Can't take those minutes away from Miller / Ott...

Jurco has been assigned to Grand Rapids for a conditioning stint. Good Luck Tomas!

    Kyle Quincey

Quincey scored a beauty last night.. Unbelievable ability to find the puck in his skates, kick it from one foot to the other, up to his stick for the wide open net. May be the nicest goal I've ever seen him score... Check it out... https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.youtube.com/embed/hVkDBNgs59c&ved=0ahUKEwiz6dDkvr3QAhUs6IMKHSVLCOMQo7QBCBowAA&usg=AFQjCNEnsU_r6unUtBanGLduhhAYpOkoXw

Yeah, I couldn't believe when I seen the first power-play unit with all 3 of our right-handed PP guys on the same f***ing unit, and none on the other... There have been a lot of questionable coaching / player usage decisions, but this has to be up there on that list... Put 2 on one, 1 on the other, not that difficult... I'd like to see something like... Unit 1 Larkin Nyquist Zetterberg Mantha Green Unit 2 Vanek Tatar Nielsen Sproul Smith / Kronwall

    Marchenko Injury

Yeah, I hate to see anyone get injured, but Marchenko should have been sitting weeks ago. Glad it's not a serious injury, but think this is a good thing for the Red Wings...

11/20 GDT : Calgary Flames 3, at Red Wings 2

Honestly, I'm not even that upset with Ericsson in over Smith, because like I said, I've been very impressed with E thus far. I just hate that Marchenko seems to keep getting a free pass for poor play. He should have been the healthy scratch over Sproul and / or Ouellet long ago, before Kronwall even came back. Ericsson has coughed up some pucks in his own zone, but so has literally every other defenseman. I think E gets a bad rap because of past play. Even when he has a great game like last night where he was the 2nd star, and led all Red Wings in corsi, people are still calling him out... I guess it's a similar situation as Smith over the past couple years. People will turn on a player in the blink of an eye, and for some reason once you get in some fans bad books, there's no getting out of it... Oh well...

Mantha has looked great. He shouldn't ever play a game for Grand Rapids ever again. Nyquist hasn't been great, but is far from the problem with this team. Tatar has been bad. Vanek looked great in his return last night. The forward lines from last night were probably the best I've seen Blashill put together yet. I hope he keeps them for at least a few games. Once Athanasiou and Jurco are healthy I'd like to see something like... Nyquist - Zetterberg - Mantha Larkin - Nielsen - Vanek Tatar - Athanasiou - Jurco Abdelkader - Sheahan - Glendening Helm (LTIR) / Ott / Miller I have no problem with the way Ericsson has been playing. I think he has been one of our better defensemen all season. The key is, he's finally playing where he belongs in the lineup, on the 3rd pairing. I honestly think Marchenko has been dragging him down, being one of our worst defensemen in just about every game. The fact that he has yet to be a healthy scratch and Smith has been the last two games is troubling to me. I'm not sure if Marchenko would be ready to go next game after, but he should be the odd man out regardless. With everyone healthy we should see something like... Smith - Green DeKeyser - Sproul Ericsson - Kronwall Ouellet / Marchenko Smith and Green were our best pairing for stretched last season, and DeKeyser and Green have been a train wreck so far this season. I seen something the other day, something to the effect of, DeKeyser without Green is 33% corsi, DeKeyser with Green is 44% corsi, and Green with DeKeyser is a 55% corsi... It's pretty clear that DeKeyser is dragging Green down... Kronwall and Ericsson weren't great as a top pair, but maybe as a bottom pair in sheltered minutes they could be effective. Sproul has been great, and shouldn't ever come out of the lineup as long as he keeps up this level of play.

I'd even argue that Nyquist should have made that roster, making him one of the best 12 or 14 Swedish forwards in the world. I think he is as good or better than Backlund, Berglund, Kruger and Soderberg. Also, if you go by the logic that because a player didn't make a World Cup roster their somehow not good or great, just look at all the snubs from the Canadian and U.S. rosters... Hall, Subban, Letang, Kessel, Galchenyuk, Shattenkirk, Faulk, the list goes on...

    Jeff Blashill

I see him developing into a solid top four defenseman, in the mold of a Jack Johnson / Matt Niskanen type. Not the strongest skater, but rarely gets caught out of position because of his high hockey IQ. Strong in all three zones, and just solid all around player. Nothing in particular stands out as a huge strength when watching him, but doesn't really have any glaring weaknesses either. In comparison to Marchenko / Sproul / Ouellet, I think his style of game compares closest to Ouellet, though I think he has a higher ceiling than XO. I've always said and still maintain that Sproul could become a solid number 2 / 3, and Marchenko is a bottom pair guy at best. Just my opinion though...

    Jeff Blashill

Not really, no. Like I said, I don't think he's better than anyone on the current roster right now, other than maybe Marchenko, and if Marchy's coming out (he should), I'd rather see Ouellet get another shot than Russo at this point. I believe Russo is going to be a solid NHLer in a year or two, but there's really no need to rush him at this point... Besides, if we're truly talking about MY personal perspective... I watch a lot of Griffins games and with Athanasiou, Mantha and Bertuzzi all on the Wings roster right now, Russo is one of the few bright spots on that roster... Svechnikov, Frk, Russo and Hicketts are the only reasons I still watch the games...
  14. krsmith17

    Jeff Blashill

He's far and away the Griffins best defenseman right now, but I wouldn't consider 7 points in 13 games in the minors to be worth waiving a player like Ouellet. With the log jam of mediocre defensemen on this team, I'd be shocked if he even made the team next year. He's still waiver exempt next season, so unless he steals a spot outright from someone in the top 6, Kronwall or someone ends up on LTIR, or there is a trade made, he'll remain down in Grand Rapids...
  15. krsmith17

    Jeff Blashill

Do you really think Russo is going to help the defense enough that it's worth losing another defenseman for nothing? Our defense has not been good enough. A trade needs to be made to bring in a top 2 defenseman, not bring up a player just for the sake of "a different view"...
  16. krsmith17

    Jeff Blashill

Russo is going to be a good player, but there are already two defensemen sitting every single game that are better than him. He MIGHT be better than Marchenko, but even then, there's still guys ahead of him. Why would we waive a player to call up a player that isn't significant upgrade?
  17. krsmith17

    Jeff Blashill

I agree. Sproul should be in every night regardless. It's not even that Smith has been THAT good, I think he's had some rough stretches, but Marchenko has been pretty bad all year...
  18. krsmith17

    Jeff Blashill

Marchenko continues to be bad, and Smith is the odd man out... DeKeyser - Green Ericsson - Marchenko Kronwall - Sproul Smith / Ouellet (extras)

Darren Helm (shoulder) out at least 6 weeks

I disagree with a lot of s*** Holland has done over the years, but one thing I agree with was re-signing Helm. Of course I would have liked a lower cap hit or shorter term, but that's the going rate for UFA's these days... Hindsight is 20/20 and there's no way Holland could have foreseen this injury coming...

Darren Helm (shoulder) out at least 6 weeks

You do realize that 80% of an 82 game season is approximately 65 games right? And Helm has played 75 and 77 games the past two season respectively (over 90%)... Helm went through an extremely rough stretch in which he couldn't get out of bed without injuring himself in some way. That however has not been the case the past two season. When a player plays as hard and as fast as Helm does, you have to expect some broken / fractured bones along the way. This injury is a huge blow to the team, I just hope he's back sooner rather than later, and is good to go around Christmas...

Darren Helm (shoulder) out at least 6 weeks

Not before a quick pit stop in Grand Rapids to play last nights game against the Stars. He picked up a goal and an assist and could have easily had another couple points. He was all over the ice, played a great game. Completely unrelated, but I seen Backman play last night for the first time since he left the Red Wings organization. He still looks like he could become a player for the Stars. I guess we'll find out next season when he's waiver eligible...

    Detroit goal scoring

Hamilton would be an amazing add for this team. Same as Trouba, he's the type of player you have to be willing to overpay for. I'd give up a significant amount for a defenseman of that caliber. What exactly did you read from Friedman though kip? The only thing I seen on it was in his "30 Thoughts" article... "That brings us to Dougie Hamilton. Nick Kypreos mentioned the rumours last weekend. Hamilton’s name has been in and out of NHL whispering circles since the draft, but Calgary GM Brad Treliving has always denied them. What no one can dispute is Hamilton’s minutes per game: 17:07 as a rookie, then 19:06, a career-high 21:20 in his third year, 19:46 and 18:26 so far in season five — fifth among Flames blueliners. He’s been above 20 minutes once since Oct. 20. His last three games saw him play 16:24, 14:39 and 15:56. If you trade him now, you might be selling low, but I think there are teams who believe they can make a better player out of him yet. He’s 23. Wonder if Detroit, having struck out so far on Cam Fowler and Jacob Trouba, would have interest. Here's another SportsNet article on what Kypreos said last weekend... With a 5-9-1 record, the start of the season hasn’t gone according to plan for the Calgary Flames. And though they may not be prepared to make a move yet to try and get back on course, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos said on Hockey Night in Canada’s Headlines segment that there are at least two teams out there inquiring about a trade. The part of Calgary’s roster with the most depth is the blueline, so if the Flames ever did make a trade they might start there. Kypreos said the two inquiring teams had especially focused on 23-year-old Dougie Hamilton. “As far as trade talks are concerned you hear Dougie Hamilton’s name out there,” Kypreos said, before downplaying Calgary’s interest in moving him right now. “I don’t suggest for one second that Calgary’s shopping this guy, but there are teams inquiring. The two teams I’m hearing that are kicking tires are Arizona and Pittsburgh.” The problem, from Calgary’s perspective, is that Hamilton hasn’t yet developed into the player they thought they were getting from Boston. He has just two goals and six points in 15 games and is fifth among Flames defencemen with an average of 18:49 of ice time per game. Calgary got Hamilton from Boston in June of 2015 for a first-round pick and two seconds. "I think if you’re Calgary you’re focused on this guy playing a lot better first," Kypreos continued. "If you are in fact going to think about trading him you gotta trade him when the stock is high and right now, unfortunately in Calgary, it's not."

    Be honest..

..... "for nothing"... aka Brendan Shanahan. Just because you say that Bowman didn't want Coffey (maybe he didn't, but I doubt he thought he was worthless like you claim...) doesn't mean he had "zero value". In a trade scenario, it's the other teams in the league that dictate how much a player is worth. No matter how many times you say it, Coffey absolutely did have value as a point producing defenseman. Otherwise he wouldn't have played another 5 years until he was 40, playing in 255 games, putting up 121 points... Imagine how valuable Kronwall would be if he played another 5 years putting up those kinds of numbers...

No hate at all actually. I really like Glendening and I think he is a decent to good 4th line player... He has no business playing on a scoring line. But yeah, keep trying to spin things to fit your narrative Buppy...
