I hear ya... and then there's this... It's been a good day! Welcome back Crisco!
-
Relax dude. We get it. Phenomenal signing...
-
I would have been okay with the AAV, but not so much the term. I would have gone 2 years max.
-
Nice looking rush by Kivenmaki, that resulted in a goal (off a defender). I'm just happy to see him playing after that nasty hit (concussion) last season. Also, nice to see Viro with a couple assists, and getting big minutes as an 18 year old, playing against men.
-
Me get it man, you really like the signing... We all do...
-
Yeah, he may be looking to get one last big pay day, and rightfully so. But if that's the case, no thanks...
-
I think that was sort of a small money contract with a contender, to get his Cup. It worked out. I would think he would want something in the $3M+ range. I'd be okay with that, as long as it's short-term.
-
If it's short-term at a reasonable cap hit, I'd be okay with it. I'd rather Shattenkirk on a two year contract, than Krug on a six year contract...
-
Apparently we're in on Shattenkirk...
-
F***ing Holland...
-
Absolutely. We need to split up that top line and spread out the offense. A team as bad as the Wings don't really have the luxury to have Larkin and Mantha on the same line. Split them up.
-
$5M for the next 4 years for a middle six, declining, undersized center... No thanks... I'd prefer Turris, but if it's Johnson, wait for Tampa to buy him out, and then sign him short term at half the salary...
-
What? Why would we do this?
-
Not a big fan of Johnson. I would much prefer Turris.
-
Beat me to it. I'd take Ryan on a short-term contract for sure.
-
It's not 1st or bust for me. I'd take a package of 2nd, plus on both of these players. I think they'll be traded, I'd rather us get the deal done than any other team. We need the extra assets.
-
I'd be good with this... and Fleury and Eriksson...
-
Again, I've already said we should add a top four defenseman. Just not Krug. And not Pietrangelo. For me, I think we need one quality top four defenseman, two max, definitely not three. And looked good in that role at times. He's still a young kid, and has shown flashes. I still think he has a future as a 4/5 defenseman. If not, we should find out this coming season.
-
More hyperbole I see... How often do guys like Krug come along? Is this a serious question? Every. Single. Year. There are always top end forwards / defensemen / goalies available in free agency. You just have to (over)pay to get them. Krug would be no different. For me, the timing isn't right. If we were a couple years further in our rebuild, or if Krug were a few years younger, sure. But since that isn't the case, no thanks. Continue to build through the draft, and in a couple years when we're getting close, that'll be the time to go big in free agency.
-
It is already slowly happening now... I agree. Which is why I said we should add a top four defenseman... That doesn't mean we should massively overpay in term and AAV for the 2nd best defenseman on the market, who will be well past his prime when we're ready to compete... Hotter take: Being slightly better, aiming for mediocrity, may be slightly better in the short-term, but could be detrimental in the long-term... Build through the draft, not free agency. Where did I say that I only want bad players? I mentioned Turris (good player), as well as Tanev (good player), and if we could add Fleury (good goalie), while adding an asset or two, that would be huge. No rebuilding team should ever be in on the biggest free agents in my opinion, but if Krug is willing to sign short term, I'd consider it. The problem with that though, is that Krug is likely looking to sign his last big contract, and we would end up paying him for what he did in Boston, not what he will do in Detroit... Again, DeKeyser, when healthy is a top 4 on most teams. I never said that Nemeth or Staal were top four defensemen, but they need to play, so we can get something for them at the trade deadline. Those spots can then be filled by Seider / Lindstrom when their seasons are over in Sweden. I disagree on Cholowski. He needs to be given more of a leash in the NHL. Let him play his game. Give him sheltered minutes in an offensive role, offensive zone starts / power-play time. Don't try to turn him into something he's not.
-
I'm comfortable with all four of those defensemen playing big minutes all season. DeKeyser is a top four when healthy in my opinion. Nemeth and Staal need to play, and play well to have a chance at getting something at next year's trade deadline. I know you hate Cholowski, like you do most of our prospects, but the potential is there. He needs to be given a shot. I agree, Biega sucks, and shouldn't be anything more than a 7th defenseman. I think we need to add one top four calibre defenseman, on a short-term contract. Two at most. Three is overkill. F*** Krug! F*** Greiss! F*** Dadonov! Yes please to 2021 1st round pick. Bring on Fleury!

Yeah, short-term is key for any potential signing today, even if you have to go a little higher on AAV. I'm just happy Yzerman realizes the need to add more right-handed forwards to the lineup. Something Holland neglected for years, and Yzerman is now addressing. He traded for and re-signed Gagner, he drafted two high-end right-handed forwards in Raymond and Niederbach, and now it looks like he wants to specifically sign another right-handed forward this weekend. I really think Turris would be a great fit here on a short-term contract. He's still a quality middle six (top six on this team) center, but was just paid way too much. 2 years at $3M. Get it done Stevie! A goalie is obviously needed as well, but three defensemen seems a bit excessive... I know Seider is staying in Sweden until March (at the earliest). Is the same the case for Lindstrom as well? He's playing in the Allsvenskan, below the SHL. I'm not sure if the same rules apply... Either way, we still have Hronek, Nemeth, DeKeyser, Staal, Cholowski, and Biega. I can see the need for one, maybe two defensemen. Tanev would be a good fit, on a short-term contract, but I can see him having a lot of interest from better teams than the Red Wings...

Another buy-out candidate in 4-5 years. I like Anderson, but he's not a player you sign to big money, long term. When will GM's learn that the long-term contracts (and NTC's), should be reserved for the top end, elite players, not role players... That trade was lopsided in Columbus favor, but after seeing what both players signed for, just makes it look that much worse...
