LeftWinger, you want Russell because of his penalty killing and shot blocking but you want nothing to do with Helm, who is one of the better penalty killers in the league? Makes sense...

I think Callahan should be given a shot over both Miller and Ott, but that's not going to happen, because vets trump kids... I would have also liked to see Frk given a shot over Vanek, but that's not going to happen either. We could potentially lose one or both of those guys, and although not huge loses, still assets lost for nothing. We're also very likely to lose Ouellet or Sproul unless Holland pulls off a trade or continues to get "lucky" with injuries. I hope Sproul sticks if we're picking one or the other. Of all the players that are no longer waiver exempt though, the player I'm most afraid of losing is Coreau. He was unreal last year in Grand Rapids and he's proving so far in camp that he is / will be a legitimate NHL goaltender. I'm hoping he clears and will be Mrazek's backup to start next season (if not sooner).

Hahaha Ott, Glendening and Miller all with a goal each... Best 4th line in the league...

Yeah, I really don't get offering Trouba $8M per season when his reported asking price is only $7M. Great negotiation tactic... You want 7? How about we give you 8 instead?... Giving Trouba $8M per season would be insane. That would make him the 2nd highest paid defenseman in the league, behind only Subban. Not to mention giving up the four 1st round picks in an offer sheet would be terrible management... I think you have to look at some of the recent contracts signed in Rielly ($5M over 6 years) and Jones ($5.4M over 6 years) or even Barrie ($5.5M over 4 years), and use them as a benchmark. I'd overpay as much as $5.5-6M, but any higher than that would be out of the question... Like has been mentioned, Trouba has all the potential in the world, but as of right now, that's all it is, and you don't pay for potential, you pay for what a player has proven thus far. I've made it very clear that I want Kenny to go hard after Trouba. And I'd be okay with him slightly over paying in assets, however no way would I want him to drastically over pay in cap or term, and 8x8 would definitely be a massive over payment. I agree that DeKeyser is likely the only piece Winnipeg would have any interest in, that's why we should be looking at the three team trade involving Anaheim. We have pieces Anaheim would want, Anaheim have pieces Winnipeg would want, and Winnipeg have pieces we would want...

Seriously? Tomorrow's game won't be broadcasted either? F***ing Bulls***! I neeeed some Red Wings hockey... Available where online Jacksoni? I'm pretty sure Crashnburn is right, or at least that's what NHL.com is saying...

Because I personally think Trouba is and will be the much better defenseman. I know a few are still skeptical on Trouba, but I think he has all the tools to be an elite defenseman in this league for a long time. Fowler on the other hand, while I do like him, I don't see him ever being anything more than a very good number 2 defenseman. Just my opinion.

I agree. Which is why I said several times now that as much as I want this to happen, deep down I know it won't... This current roster is exactly what we'll have going into the season.

Box score from yesterday's Red White game... Period 1 White - Sheahan (Nyquist) White - Aubry Period 2 White - Street (Russo) (PP) Red - Sadowy (Turgeon) White - Sproul (Nyquist, Helm) White - Tangradi (Ouellet, Sproul) Red - Mantha (Larkin) Red - Larkin Red - Frk (Lorito) White - Svechnikov Red - Lorito White 6 - Red 5 Wish these games would be broadcasted, but it looks like the big names had a good game. Aside from Athanasiou and Bertuzzi, pretty much every player hit the scoresheet. Love that Sproul had a goal and an assist. Hopefully he can keep it up through these preseason games...

Projected lines and pairings... Nyquist - Helm - Sheahan Tangradi - Lorito - Callahan Svechnikov - Street - Borkowski Smith - Aubry - Campbell Ericsson - Green Paetsch - Jensen Raneuf - Hicketts Glad the kids (Athanasiou - Larkin - Mantha and Ouellet - Sproul) aren't playing tonight. Apparently there's not going to be an broadcast for tonight's game...

Blash already said that he'll keep the Athanasiou - Larkin - Manths line together for one game. Hopefully we'll get to see it tonight... Apparently Blashill was really impressed with Mantha in training camp and the Red White game yesterday. I'm still hoping for big things from this kid...

I think Nyquist alone "should" get us Fowler, but I don't think it would... That's why I would be willing to throw in a Marchenko or Ouellet to get it done. Then flip Fowler and a high pick (1st or 2nd) for Trouba. Makes perfect sense for all three teams in my opinion...

Three way trade involving Fowler and Trouba makes too much sense... Make it happen Holland!

One for one? Yes I would. But there's no way Cheveldayoff would make that trade. Besides, it doesn't really make a ton of sense for us either. We'd be getting the better player, but the point in getting Trouba would be to have someone to pair with DeKeyser. Who then would be pair with Trouba? My pick would be Smith, but I'm sure there are plenty here that would laugh pretty hard at that...

Pretty much exactly what I said earlier... I just really feel like I'm going to be disappointed when nothing materializes out of all of this. Unfortunately I just don't see Holland pulling off a trade of this magnitude. If he were able to somehow pull this off, it would put us a year or two ahead in this rebuild...

What about some sort of three way deal involving both Anaheim and Winnipeg? Something along the lines of... To ANA: Nyquist, Marchenko To WPG: Fowler, 1st round pick (DET) To DET - Trouba Anaheim gets their top 6 winger. Winnipeg gets their top 4 left handed defenseman. Detroit gets their top 4 right handed defenseman... I'm not sure if the value in and out would be good for each team, but I don't think it's that far off...

Yes, he is, despite the insistence that "production is the only determining factor in a players worth, because f*** intangibles" by some people... If we were able to trade for Trouba, I don't think finding cap space would be an issue at all. He's made it very clear that this is not just about money, it's more so to do with opportunity and role on the team. I don't think there would be any reason Trouba wouldn't take a one or two year deal on the cheap, knowing that he would get paid after that. He would instantly be our number one defenseman and play in all situations, and I believe when he says that's the most important thing to him.

And Tatar probably wouldn't have made team Sweden either... Nyquist absolutely should have made that team over Kruger and I'd even argue a few others as well, Soderberg, Berglund, Backlund, Silvferberg... You're one of the only people I've heard of that thinks Tatar is that much better than Nyquist. I'm not going to argue that Nyquist is better or vice versa, because they are very similar in overall skill level and ability. They've had very similar personal success thus far in their careers and I expect much of the same throughout their careers...

Cheveldayoff may want a ton in return for Trouba, but the second the trade request went public, the price tag dropped. The fact that he isn't reporting to training camp and is practicing on his own in Detroit, definitely bodes well for the Wings. My only concern is Holland and his inability to make trades... Everything seems to be aligning perfectly, and should be a slam dunk. Is Holland able / willing to pony up the assets to get it done though? Unfortunately, I have my doubts... As much as I'd love to see a top pairing of DeKeyser - Trouba, I bet he ends up in Boston or something...

I love when our best players happen to be North American, but I'm not going to target players solely on their Nationality. I personally don't care if a player is Canadian, American, Swedish, Russian, Slovak, or white, black or purple. If they're helping the Wings win games, who gives a s***?...

Yeah, I think Jensen would clear waivers for sure. Sproul and Ouellet on the other hand, both would likely be claimed. I agree though that both will be with the team to start the season because I doubt Kronwall will be ready to go by then. I'm hoping Sproul gets a good long look. If I'm picking one of the two, it's Sproul for sure. Ouellet is the safer option, but Sproul has the much higher upside.
