A little higher than I would have liked, but overall I think it's a solid deal.

Tatar - Larkin - Abdelkader Zetterberg - Nielsen - Nyquist Jurco - Athanasiou - Vanek Helm - Sheahan - Mantha Frk - Glendening I know, never going to happen... -
Hudler was a special case, that was eventually deemed invalid after returning from the KHL was it not? I remember something about it, but can't remember exactly how it all went down... Regardless, that doesn't change the point that we have plenty cap space to sign both remaining RFA's, and it will likely happen before they reach arbitration...
-
We have just shy of $9M to re-sign both DeKeyser and Mrazek (with Franzen and Vitale on LTIR), which is more than enough to get both locked up. I doubt either player makes it to arbitration. We haven't had a single player make it to arbitration since '95 (Ray Sheppard).

Ohhhh, THAT'S your point... That wasn't clear the last 500 posts you've made regarding Helm since he was signed 25 days ago... Holland proved with this signing that Helm IS part of this teams future, and no, none of the kids you're talking about bring the same element Helm does, maybe with the exception of Athanasiou. Want to b**** about contracts and players taking up roster spots that aren't part of the future? How about Miller, Ott and Vanek... Helm is here for the long haul and you might as well get used to it... Or maybe we (myself in particular) should just get used to your constant b****ing, because hey, that's what you do... Same with Franzen, same with Nyquist, same with Ericsson, same with Howard, etc, etc, etc... -

Yeah, it sucks we're going to lose these guys because of the Helm signing... Stop being so f***ing over dramatic... Both DeKeyser and Mrazek will be signed, likely before their arbitration hearings, and Helm's contract will not effect it in any way, shape, or form... -

No question he would be our best player, but he's not worth anywhere close to Larkin plus top prospects / picks... Yup, if we didn't sign Helm to that s***ty contract, all 4 of Jurco, Pulkkinen, Athanasiou and Mantha would be in the lineup. Damn Helm for taking up 4 roster spots... The Helm signing is not going to affect Mrazek or DeKeyser's contract in any way. But hey, keep trying to spin everything with your absurd Helm hate... -
I wouldn't say it would be outrageous or crazy money, but I do think it's slight over payment. Ideally I'd like to see him somewhere around $4.5-5M for around 5+ years, but I wouldn't be at all shocked to see him get $5.5M+ to me honest...

Talk about massively over rating a player... Kucherov is a very good young player that any team would love to have, but there's no way he would cost near that much... Larkin alone would be over payment and you're talking about adding more pieceS like top prospects, our best defenseman, and a first round pick... Kucherov is 3 years older than Larkin. In Kucherov's rookie year he put up 18 points (9 goals, 9 assist) in 52 games (0.35 pts/g). In Larkin's rookie year he put up 45 points (23 goals, 22 assists) in 80 games (0.56 pts/g). Kucherov is a 65 point player, after Larkin's rookie year, I think it's a fair bet he will be similar (or more) productive player in the next couple years... -
Signed Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

Dickie, your comment "I ignore facts because they say I'm wrong" seems like sarcasm when talking about Glendening, but you seem to have that exact mentality when evaluating Helm... I get that Glendening's inability is much more glaring than Helm's, but in my opinion Glendening is a borderline NHL player, while Helm is a very good (one of the best) bottom 6 players in the league... You acknowledge the stats when discussing Glendening, but fail to see them for whatever reason when discussing Helm... -

Very knowledgeable post wall... Like I said a few posts back, you couldn't be more wrong on your assessment of Helm, but keep trying to claim that he's a 4th liner... All the stats say otherwise, but f*** that nonsense right? Player bias and personal opinion outweighs any stats... -

Great vid PVD. I especially enjoyed the two against the Habs, the following one against the Ducks, and the one at the end against the Bolts. Vintage "No-Hand-Helm" right there... Of course some would argue the ONE where "Datsyuk had to shoot it off his a** in OT against the Rangers" was vintage Helm, but I enjoyed that one as well. Go hard to the net and good things happen. Helm does that very well. Lefty, you were NOT right about Franzen. The guy was an absolute beast and as many have mentioned, he is the exact type of player we've been missing these past few seasons. But you will remain ignorant, and continue saying how much he sucked right? And how it's a blessing he's on LTIR? I was never a big fan of Hudler either and I was happy to see him go. I'm sure there are countless others as well, so don't act as if you were the only one saying he "sucks". Ericsson is another example of a player that constantly gets s*** on that isn't half as bad as he's made out to be. He is a solid bottom pairing guy, the problem is, he's a little overpaid. I don't know why I'm wasting my time though, talking to you about Franzen, Ericsson, Nyquist, Helm (he's not Swedish by the way...) is like talking to a wall. You're never going to change your mind on any of these players, even if they all became Norris, Hart, Selke candidates. But not only would you not change your mind if that happened, you're actually hoping it doesn't happen, so you wouldn't have to admit you were wrong... like you'd do that anyway right?... -

No, I'm sure he would stack up well with other 3rd line centers because I have compared him with many. What I said was, I don't know exactly how he would rank because I haven't compared his numbers with ALL 3rd line centers... The stats are there, it's up to you if you want to use them. Of course, you're also welcome to rely on the trusty ol' eye ball test as well... -

I wouldn't say Helm is definitively the best 3rd line center in the league, but I do think he's one of the best (if not the best). The stats are there to prove it. What evidence do you want? I'm not going to compare every 3rd line center in the league, but if you wanted to take the time to do so, I guarantee Helm would stack up quite well with the competition. Hahaha give it a f***ing rest Lefty. You of all people shouldn't be gloating about being "right". You've got to be one of the worst for trying to pass your personally bias on a player as fact. Once you start to hate on a player (for whatever reason), there's no amount of reasoning or facts that will change your mind. You weren't right on Franzen, or anyone else. In fact, every one of those players are better than you'll ever give them credit for and Helm is no different... -
Signed Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension
krsmith17 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Two things people always go to when trying to defend Glendening, blocked shots and faceoff percentage. Two of the most skewed individual stats in hockey could be blocked shots and giveaways... A player gets all kinds of praise when he blocks a lot of shots, but all that 'usually' means is he never has the puck... Another player gets s*** on because he has a ton of giveaways, when that 'usually' means he has the puck all the time... Glendening falls under the former. I will admit though, he is a very good faceoff man, but is that reason enough to pay him the big bucks and keep him around for another 5 years?... -

Yeah, despite all of these glaring numbers, I would still rather him on the team over Miller and Ott. That's not saying a whole lot though... It's really scary to think that we could have all three of those guys on our 4th line this season though... -

You're flat out wrong on Helm. He is not a 4th liner, he is a very good 3rd line center / winger. He may be slightly overpaid, but only by around $500K, and that's certainly not worth all the b****ing you're doing about it... As of right now he is better in that role than all the players you mentioned, maybe with the exception of Athanasiou. Stop trying to compare Helm with Miller and Ott. They're not even close to being similar in any way, other than the team they play for and the fact that they can kill penalties. But even then there's the difference that Helm is a much better penalty killer... -

If Jurco were to get traded for peanuts, everyone would be livid for years not weeks... If he were playing with any other organization he would be a very good middle 6 winger right now. Unfortunately, he has been severely mismanaged, and his value is at an all time low, so we literally won't know what we have / had until he's gone... Jurco is no all-star, but he's no Ville Leino type scrub either. It would be a mistake to trade him away for nothing... -
