    Who should get A?

Hyman played one season with Larkin at the University of Michigan, and became his linemate. I'm sure they became buddies, but I doubt they knew each other at all prior to that. Hyman being from Toronto, the Leafs were an obvious choice for him. Matthews played a bit with Larkin growing up in the National Development program and again in the World Juniors and World Championships, but I don't know if they were ever really good buddies. I'm sure there's a ton of respect between the two, but off the ice I don't think they were ever really close. I think Larkin was a lot closer to Eichel growing up than he ever was with Matthews. I'm not so sure he would consider either to be his good buddies, and I doubt any more than he is now / will become with Glendening or Sheahan (his roomates), or Abdelkader, DeKeyser, etc. You know who Larkin is really good buddies with? Zach Werenski. Let's try to pry that kid out of Columbus. Guys going to be an absolute stud...

    Tyler Bertuzzi goal.. Savage lol

That isn't even close to the same as moving a stick laying on the ice... If you watch the video again, he swiped the stick away, there was no slashing down motion. It's on Sadowy for not holding on to his stick... "No penalty on the play. We have a good hockey goal"...

    Tyler Bertuzzi goal.. Savage lol

I don't believe that would have been called any sort of penalty on Bert. It wasn't slashing nor was it any sort of interference in my opinion. Datsyuk was known for that move (maybe not with quite as much force), one on one with a defender, move the puck one way while batting the stick away, all in one motion. In my opinion, that's all Bertuzzi did on that play, and because he was one on one against a forward (Sadowy), he made him look foolish. Bottom line, the player in that situation needs to hold on to his stick...
  5. That is MASSIVE overpayment for Fowler...
  6. We're liking going to have to overpay for any top 4 or 2 defenseman we bring in, and I'd personally much rather overpay for Trouba than Fowler. You're basically saying that you would trade any players that you have openly said you "want" to get rid of, plus a few unproven players / prospects... If Holland waives Jensen it's one thing, I think he'd likely clear anyway, but if he waives Sproul I'll be pissed. Trade Ouellet in a package, keep Sproul as your number 7 and waive Jensen...

    Who should get A?

I don't think there's any way Larkin would bolt for the Leafs. He was a fan of both the Maple Leafs and Red Wings growing up. His father was a Leafs fan and his grandfather was a Wings fan (or vice-versa), and he got drafted by one of his favorite teams in his hometown. I just don't see him ever playing for another team, especially one of our biggest rivals... My bet is he eventually becomes the captain and plays his entire career here and becomes an icon to the city and organization, much like Yzerman...

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

I agree kickazz, I f***ing loved the Givani Smith pick, and he's already becoming one of my favorite prospects. He pretty much owned the Red Wings Snapchat account for the week of development camp and it was awesome. I think he and Bertuzzi already have somewhat of a relationship, which is cool to see. He says he molds his game after Wayne Simmonds, and if he can be half the player Simmonds is for Philadelphia, we have a good one on our hands. joesuff, I'm sure anyone speaking of Jurco's potential are basing it off of what he was able to accomplish before he made the jump (too early) to the NHL. I'm not sure how much you've followed him in the Q or AHL, but he was a beast in both, and he would have absolutely owed the American League if he had stayed down there. By the way, he is a very fluent skater, great passer, unbelievable hands, just lacks power in his shot, which is fine since that has never been his game. He's never going to be the type of player to blaze down the wing and snipe top corner, but he is capable of making plays, and scoring some nice goals. He can't do that, and no, neither would Nyquist or Tatar, in a 4th line checking role with Glendening / Miller / Andersson / Ferraro...
  9. Datsyukian, I think you're right in saying that any talks with the Jets on Trouba would "start" with Larkin, but I don't think he'd necessarily cost that much. I think a deal could be done with Nyquist / Tatar plus prospects and / or picks... If they're not interested in that package, we have other pieces we could throw in, including Svechnikov, Mantha, Athanasiou, etc. I'm not saying I'd necessarily trade those players (depends on what else would be going the other way), but the point is, I do think a trade for Trouba is very possibly without losing Larkin...
  10. Okay, so if these are things that "need" to be done to "save" this summer... what specific moves would you make to achieve this goal?... What would you give up to get Fowler? Which roster defenseman and three forwards would you trade and for what? And what two defense kids would you trade and for what?... By the way, he wasn't "snubbed" by Stamkos (I'm assuming that's the UFA you're talking about), he signed a great deal with the team that drafted him. He never hit free agency...

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

I think it's still too early to call it a "boom" or "bust" pick, but I loved the pick five years ago, and in hindsight, there are only a couple other players I'd possibly pick before him. I think both Boone Jenner and Brandon Saad would have been good picks as well, but would either of them be any better than Jurco at this point in the Wings organization? I'm not so sure... So no, I don't really think either of those guys would have panned out any better than Jurco has. I think it was a good pick, just a terrible job at developing him...

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

Jurco is a prime example of player mismanagement... All the potential in the world and the skills to reach that potential but never put in a position to succeed. I still believe he was brought up to the NHL too quickly and it stunted his growth. If he were seasoned for a year or two longer, I think it would have gone a long way in his development and we would have a completely different player today... Because he was brought up too early, he has struggled and his numbers have been very underwhelming, he'll be lucky if he makes the roster as the 13th forward... Sproul, I also believe has been mismanaged, but for the opposite reason... He was given plenty (too much) time to season in Grand Rapids, and I think he should have been given more than that one game a couple years ago against St. Louis. He looked very good in that game, and there's no reason he couldn't have been given another look in the past two full seasons in all that time that Marchenko and Ouellet were being called up and sent down... I've always been more impressed with Sproul but especially since he's cleaned up his defensive game. If Holland doesn't figure out this log jam and we end up losing Ouellet, Sproul or even Frk for nothing, I'll be pretty pissed...
  13. ... And we didn't even really trade Datsyuk's contract for the 16th overall pick... The way I see it, we traded down from 16 because we weren't that high on Chychrun (for whatever reason?), and the guy we were high on (Cholowski) was likely going to be available a few picks later anyway, so we traded back, still got our guy at 20, and picked up a 2nd round pick (Hronek) as well... We basically just traded Datsyuk's contract ($7.5M cap hit without having to pay any salary) for Joe Vitale (LTIR no cap hit having to pay $1.3M salary). Good trade for both teams, and about all it should have cost for a cash strapped team like Arizona...
  14. If Holland didn't make that trade and we were still stuck with Datsyuk's contract, with little to no activity on July 1st, it would be the exact same people b****ing and moaning. Just imagine how much backlash there would be if Stamkos did hit free agency and he went to Buffalo because we didn't have the cap space to sign him. I don't think there's any question that today Chychrun is more skilled and more developed than Cholowski. My first reaction when we were trading the pick was "pissed" too, but after hearing what the trade entailed, I was stoked. It was a great trade, and you make it every time in that situation. Who knows how it will look in 5-10 years, but hindsight is 20/20...

This year vs last year: a poll

Yeah, there's no chance Zetterberg sits games as a healthy scratch, unless we already have a playoff spot secured toward the end of the season, and even then it would be doubtful. The best way to get the most of Z for an entire season is to cut his minutes back from 19-20 to 15-16 minutes per game, and put him on the wing.

Yeah, that was a nice goal Nerve. I seen all the highlights yesterday on the Red Wings twitter feed. Sadowy and Bertuzzi looked good. Was kind of disappointed not to see a whole lot of Svechnikov though...

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Zero chance Sadowy plays in Detroit this season, and I'd even doubt the following season. It's not going to be between him and Mantha, it would be between him and Bertuzzi and Bert would get the call before him in my opinion. Sadowy was a great pick up for us, but I don't see him as anything more than a bottom 6 winger at the NHL level. Same goes for Bertuzzi. Mantha will remain in Grand Rapids until a scoring line spot opens up...

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

332 forwards have played at least 1500 minutes 5on5 since 2013-14 season. Ott, Miller and Glendening rank 317th, 328th and 330th respectively in corsi%. It's scary to think that our 4th line could potentially consist of 3 of the 16 worst corsi% forwards in the entire league. Puck possession black hole at it's finest. But yeah, let's play them 18 minutes a night, while Athanasiou and Mantha are in Grand Rapids and Jurco and whoever else is a healthy scratch...

    Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

Yeah, we never should have signed that bum Helm, he's not good at hockey... Now Martin, that's who we should have signed, guy's a stud... Grass is always greener...

Don't take those 'boxscores' to the bank... Khan reported Svechnikov scored in the shootout, but I just watched the highlights and it was Saarijarvi, not Svech. Khan also reported that Smith scored a goal and added an assist in the scrimmage, but he wasn't listed as scoring in the boxscore. Who knows...

Yup, Sadowy will be in Grand Rapids this season. Hopefully we have another Bertuzzi type player on our hands. Both seem to love going to the hard areas and score dirty goals...
