You don't take a defenseman that far off the table unless they actually seen something special in the kid... Here's to hoping... If we absolutely had to take a defenseman there (I don't think we should have), I would have much rathered see us take Johansen...
-
Yeah, great trade to get rid of Datsyuk's contract and also pick up another 2nd rounder, while moving back just 4 spots... Unfortunately though, that pick couldn't have been worse (as it looks right now)... I said long ago that I wanted either McLeod or Bean (assuming Chychrun wouldn't have been available...) and if they were gone, I was hoping to trade back and pick Jones. Either one of Jones or Gauthier would have been great picks there, hell I could name at least 10 players I would have taken before this Cholowski kid... Of course I hope he becomes a huge steal, but I really can't see this kid developing into anything more than a 2nd / 3rd pairing defenseman... Prove us wrong Kenny...

I really don't think we should have to eat any significant amount of Howard's contract. $1M max... -
Very possible that Bean could drop, but I see him going around the 12 range as well. I'd be okay with Kunin too, but only if a few of the other big names are off the board.
-
I assume you didn't list Bean because you think he'll be gone before 16?

No way would I trade our 46th pick and a prospect, just to get rid of Datsyuk's contract for one season... I still think the asking price will go down quite a bit, and we'll be able to move it before July 1st... -

I'd love to land Lucas Johansen in the 2nd round, but I don't see it happening unless we make a trade to get in the 30 range. Nathan Bastian is another player I like in that range as well. Maybe we could be so lucky for one of them to drop all the way to 46... doubt it. Wade Allison is another player I like, but I wouldn't take him in the first couple rounds, so again, unless we make a trade to get in the 3rd round, I doubt he drops to us in the 4th at 107... I really hope we're able to land Kenny Johnson and / or Filip Berglund in one of the later rounds as well...

Stanley is probably the only player projected to go in the first round that I'd be pissed if we drafted... It's McLeod or Bean for me if we draft at 16. Jones or Gauthier if we trade back a couple spots...

Thanks amato, I was thinking only in terms of retaining salary, didn't even think about another contract coming back the other way... I'm wondering what team it could be referring to though?... Columbus and Hartnell?... Dominator, is every player not on the Wings a piece of s***?... -

That tweet from Craig Custance makes no sense. There is no salary attached to Datsyuk's contract so that's obviously not the issue with negotiations... Regarding Howard, if he isn't moved before the expansion draft (I hope he will be) he absolutely will be made available. No chance Mrazek is exposed... -

I'd love to have Subban on this team, unfortunately he would cost WAY too much... Bob McKenzie - "MIN is fielding offers on some of its good young D. A trade of a D for a good young forward is possible but not necessarily assured." Matt Dumba? Pierre LeBrun - "Cam Fowler trade talks heating up to the point where he could be moved before Friday night's draft. Stay tuned." Bob McKenzie - "DET in no hurry to dump Datsyuk cap hit. Wings know asset cost but don't want to pay the price until they're certain they need the cap room." -
Glendening is not close to as useful as Helm. Helm is effective in all three zones whereas Glendening is only effective in the defensive zone. Why do some still feel the need for the possession black holes that aren't effective in any other aspect of the game other than defending, aka chasing the puck and blocking shots. And Helm's injury woes are behind him. Jurco absolutely has been misused and he is a very good hockey player that just hasn't figured it out at the NHL level yet. He's still very young and I have full confidence if given ample time, he will be an extremely effective middle six winger. One thing I will agree with is that he hasn't made the most of his opportunities, but again he's still young and I do believe he'll figure it out. We're likely not going to agree here, but for me, it's Jurco over Glendening 100 out of 100 times...
-
Jurco doesn't have a role right now because he has been highly misused. I hope he's given a legit shot out of camp this year and he runs with it. His skill set and potential are way too high to give up in an expansion draft over Luke Glendening. If both were exposed, teams would chose Jurco over Glenny without question... Yes, both Glendening and Miller were acquired via free agency. Glendening straight out of college and Miller after Tampa let him walk. I never mentioned Helm because he's not in the same category as the other two. Helm is one of the best bottom six forwards in the league, whereas Miller and Glendening are fillers...

Yeah, it's not easy to see when they're all overlapped like that. Being able to choose each player individually makes it much easier to understand. I'd post Smith and a few others individually to compare, but I'm unable to right now... -

My eyeball test shows me that Helm is not a turnover machine, and that he creates more opposition turnovers with his forechecking ability than he commits... Who's opinion is right? If only we had stats to back it up... Oh right, we do have the stats but apparently they're inaccurate because someone on a message board says so... All of this nonsense aside, my biggest beef with this entire debate is that you continuously say "take- and giveaway"... Seriously, WHY? If you're willing to go the extra mile to type out the word giveaway, why the hell can't you take the time to type the word takeAWAY?... -
Glendening, like Miller is the most overrated type of player in hockey. You know that famous Ken Holland quote, "there is no hockey store" to acquire top level talent... Well there is a "hockey store" to acquire bottom 6 talent like Glendening and Miller, it's called free agency... Jurco >>>>> Glendening in my opinion and it's not even close...
-
Yes, I would protect Jurco over other possible options... Who else would you protect? Zetterberg? No team is going to take that contract for an deteriorating 37 year old. Pulkkinen? Jurco is over Pulkkinen for me. Glendening? No thanks. Nosek? Callahan? Nope. Nope. nyquististhefuture, I'd be okay with going that route with Smith and protecting Marchenko or Ouellet, as long as we're not losing Smith...
-
So am I correct in saying that we don't have a single player that we would be forced to protect? Datsyuk was the only player with a no-movement clause, and the rest have no-trade clauses and would not need protection?... I think this list will be different a year from now, as I expect some moves before the season starts, as well as possibly at the trade deadline... But here's my list as our roster sits today... Forwards: Nyquist, Tatar, Abdelkader, Sheahan, Mantha, Athanasiou, Jurco Defense: DeKeyser, Smith, Sproul Goalie: Mrazek
-
I'd definitely be okay with landing Bean. I just hope one of those two are available at 16. If not, I hope we trade back and are somehow able to land Jones and Johansen...

Don't waste your time Aethernum... Fans have always done it and always will do it. With some people, once they have an opinion on someone or something, no amount of reasoning can change that opinion. You can throw as much information and as many stats at them as you want, it's not going to matter. The same people refuse to see how good Smith really is, despite all of the stats and evidence that support it. Tatar sucks, Nyquist sucks, Smith sucks, etc, etc... -
Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

Why are you talking about a kid that just turned 17, isn't draft eligible for another year, wouldn't be NHL ready for at least another two years, and we have little to no chance in drafting?... Or is that just you're not so subtle way in saying that we'll be a lottery team next year? -

I don't usually take much stock in trade rumors, but I can't help but salivate over the thought of Trouba in the Winged Wheel... I know I've mentioned it a hundred times, but Kenny needs to be all over that. I'd also welcome Fowler, but Trouba is my number one choice...
