Glad he's re-signed. Not a player I wanted Holland to go after. -
Hawks trade Teravainen and Bickell to Carolina

My question is, why did Tatar have to do more with 'less'?... Do you think it might have to do with the coach trusting Nyquist more? Nyquist seems to be relied on more at the end of games when up or down by a goal. Is there a reason for this? Their production is virtually the same from year to year, and throughout their careers, they're basically the same age, same size, pretty close on the same style of play, the difference is negligible... To say either one is far superior over the other at this stage of their careers is ridiculous. They're both very good secondary skilled wingers... -

I agree, and I've said before that I'd be okay with giving up Pulkkinen for a late round draft pick (something has to come back the other way), but anything more is overpayment. And we're not in a situation that we should have to over pay. If it's going to cost more than that, eat the cap hit for a season and play the kids... -

I don't care if there's 29 teams begging to take Datsyuk's contract, or only one willing trade partner, Holland should not be giving up a ton to get rid of this contract. It's a completely different story if we're a legit Cup contender, but we aren't, and won't be for another couple years at least. We should be trying to acquire future assets not lose a bunch just to rid ourselves of a contract for one season... -

I agree with Leftwinger. I think there's already a deal on the table and it will be announced within the next few days. I also agree with kliq. Holland better not not be massively overpaying just to get rid of the contract for one year. It's not worth losing a bunch of assets, just to have more cap space for one season. The only way we should give up anything of significance is if there's already a mutual understanding that Stamkos will sign with us on July 1st... which I doubt would be the case... -
Hawks trade Teravainen and Bickell to Carolina
krsmith17 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
You don't care who I like better? Haha okay, end of discussion then because like I said, I'm not arguing who is the better player. I would trade Tatar before Nyquist because of my personal preference. If we trade Nyquist and keep Tatar I'd be okay with that decision. My bet is that when Holland talks to other GM's though that Nyquist is brought up before Tatar. Who knows though, maybe Tatar is the hotter commodity, but I could really care less to be honest. Both are good secondary scorers... -

You're arguing an opinion... I think Nyquist is slightly more of a complete player and when you look at their numbers over their careers - (Nyquist - 261 GP, 76 G, 82 A, 158 PTS / Tatar - 263 GP, 74 G, 74 A, 148 PTS), I would say that's pretty negligible... I bring up advanced stats and possession numbers when talking about Brendan Smith to prove to people that he does not "suck". Smith has much better advanced stats than DeKeyser, but I'm not going to sit here and try to argue that he is the better player... I'm not even arguing who is the better player between Nyquist and Tatar because like I said, I don't think it's that much of a difference. I like Nyquist slightly more. You, Tatar? Awesome, you win... It's a great point that losing Nyquist would make more sense because Tatar costs less. But I would also argue that Nyquist would hold more value in a trade with most teams. I could be wrong there though... Either way, if we were to trade one or the other in a package for a top pair defenseman, I wouldn't be too upset if it were Nyquist over Tatar or vice versa... -

I'd keep Nyquist over Tatar too but the difference between the two is negligible... Some fans will favor Tatar, others Nyquist, I think the same would go for NHL coaches and general managers... I wouldn't say either are more right or wrong than the other though... -

Stranger things have happened I guess. I'm still not convinced that they'll put it all together though... We'll see... No need for an offer sheet. Stamkos is unrestricted. -

Do you think Chayka would like to make his mark on the Coyotes with a big, stay at home Swedish defenseman?... I mean Ericsson would be the perfect fit on the top pair with Ekman-Larsson... -

I meant Babcock made the wrong choice because he will never have a chance to win again, but hey who cares when you can now wipe your a** with $100 bills... Babs is a great coach, but I was more than happy when he moved on. -

I agree, which is what makes it so impressive that Nill is able to get a 5th round pick from a team for a player they were going to let walk in a couple weeks time anyway.. -

Wasn't a huge reason Stamkos was somewhat unhappy in Tampa due to being moved to the wing? In Toronto they'll have some combination of Matthews, Kadri, Nylander, Bozak down the middle. Stamkos would be the best option for them at center right now, but will he be within a year or two if Matthews and Nylander develop into half the players Leafs fans believe them to be?... In Detroit, he would be guaranteed the number one center position now and possibly for the foreseeable future. Right now Larkin shouldn't be any higher than a number two center, maybe he becomes a legit number one, maybe not. Behind him, we have Sheahan and Athanasiou who is still an unknown at this point. I'm not saying Stamkos would choose to come to Detroit over Toronto, but if he's leaving Tampa, I believe there is a legit possibility he could come to Detroit... There are obvious pros and cons to both Detroit and Toronto for Stamkos, just as there were for Babcock. Babcock made the wrong choice, maybe Stamkos will as well... -

I would think that as the ceiling rises the floor would rise a similar amount... Would be great news for us.

We did trade Brad Stuart's rights to San Jose in 2012 for Andrew Murray and a 2014 7th round pick (Alexander Kadeykin). I just wish Holland would pull off trades like this more often. Kadeykin likely won't ever become a Red Wing and most 7th round picks don't ever make the NHL, but it's better than letting decent to good players walk for nothing... -

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
krsmith17 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
We have an offseason thread dedicated to the Red Wings, this one can be used to discuss everything else going on throughout the league. The Bickell / Teravainen trade has already been discussed in it's own thread but there's no need to start a new thread for every offseason trade or acquisition... Arizona acquired negotiating rights to Alex Goligoski from Dallas for a 2016 5th round draft pick. Pierre LeBrun - "Stars tried to re-sign the pending UFA but couldn't come to terms so they deal him before losing him for nada July 1" Why is it that Holland NEVER makes deals like this? Goligoski is a much better defenseman than Quincey so there's probably not much of a market there, but maybe even a conditional 7th... Or what about if we don't bring Helm back (I still hope we do), we should definitely be able to get a 4th or 5th out of a team like Winnipeg for his rights... Why didn't we ever trade Filppula or Hudler's rights when we let them walk? I love Holland but why is it that Nill can pull off trades like this but for whatever reason Holland is incapable?... -

You can't just put a player on LTIR because you feel like it. Otherwise there would be no need for all these buyouts... Carolina can't put Bickell on LTIR unless he is actually injured, nor could we with Datsyuk. -

Avalanche NOT trading D Tyson Barrie, GM Joe Sakic tells me. LT deal preferred for RFA, or arbitration. "Either way, he'll be here" - Sakic Good news. Now I hope Bob Murray makes a similar statement regarding Vatanen... -
Datsyuk - someone who works for JLA told me he's sold his house
krsmith17 replied to WeBleedRed's topic in General
I don't see Bickell's contract as I do Datsyuk's and I don't think most GM's would either. Carolina still has to pay Bickell real dollars, whereas whoever is willing to take on Pav's contract won't have to spend a dime. Of course we're going to have to give up something, but I think a mid round draft pick should be enough, or maybe even Pulkkinen with a late round draft pick coming back the other way... Frank, where did you hear this about not being able to trade him until July 1st? I was not aware of this. Do you have a link? I was of the understanding that we could trade the contract before the draft, once Ken and Pav have their sit down together... Jared Cowen was traded to Toronto last year in the huge Phaneuf deal, and is now being bought out by the Leafs. And Jurco / Pulkkinen plus a 2nd round pick is WAY too much to give up to trade one year of a contract. If that's what it's going to cost, I hope we eat the cap hit for the remaining year that's left on the contract... Zero chance he gives up our 16th overall pick...
