I don't know. It's so hard to gauge. Under normal circumstances, I would think a team would trade (give up assets) for Johnson, but with the flat cap, and teams being under internal budgets, it's hard to see any team giving up assets to acquire him. I tend to agree. I don't think a 2nd round pick would be enough. If Johnson were a UFA, I'd have no interest in signing him to a 4 year contract worth $5M per, so to help out a divisional rival, and take him on, it would have to be well worth it for us... I agree.
-
Tampa are not giving up any major assets to get rid of Tyler Johnson. Certainly not a 1st, plus... Johnson still has some value, and would not be a typical cap dump. EDIT: I didn't realize there was 4 years left on his contract. For some reason I was thinking he was a UFA at the end of next season... Either way, I still don't think Tampa will have to give up a 1st, plus, but I wouldn't want him at $5M for the next 4 years, unless something was attached...

He's going to be a f***ing beast.

I think McIsaac is more of a lock to be an NHL defenseman, but I would agree that Johansson has the highest ceiling of any of our LHD.

Love it! Playing with fellow Wings prospect Malte Setkov, and future Wings prospect(?) Helge Grans...
-
Yes, I understand that, but in the case of Aho, it was reported (or leaked) before he ever signed it.
-
I don't understand offer sheets because I assumed they were all reported? I don't tell "everyone" their offer sheet proposals are dumb, just yours. Because it was dumb. I don't get this. Why would someone not admit to an offer sheet? Bergevin had no problem admitting his Aho offer sheet, even though it was extremely low...
-
First I've heard of this... Yes. This was (I guess) my wrongful assumption... I guess it makes sense that they wouldn't all be reported, much like trades that never get finalized, but for whatever reason, I did assume offer sheets were different. Either way, Cernak offer sheet would be dumb. Sergachev offer sheet probably wouldn't ever happen, but would be smart as s***.
-
I'd be okay with Perfetti, but I have a feeling we're not taking him, and it will end up being Holtz (which I'd be okay with), or Lundell (which I'd be less okay with)...
-
Maybe you should re-read what I just said... This was before Aho signed it.
-
Because it's a tool that should probably be used more often to acquire elite talent from cap strapped teams. As I admitted, my original offer sheet proposal probably would be matched, but I'd be willing to up that to a level they probably wouldn't be able to match. It might be an overpayment, but for top end talent, I think it's worth it. I don't think it's ever worth it to overpay for middling talent. Are you serious? Ever hear of Google? You're acting as if offer sheets are done in secret or something... When Bergevin sent Aho an offer sheet last year, we all knew about it. We also knew when Aho signed it, and when Waddell matched it...
-
I guess the same way you "know" Sergachev wouldn't sign it... Offer sheets are rarely given out, but when they are, they are usually signed, and when they are signed, they are usually matched... Common knowledge.

This doesn't happen, unless it's in the 7th round, like when Marty Brodeur announced his son Anthony with the last pick in 2013 for the Devils. Bertuzzi wasn't picked because he is Todd's nephew, just like Draper wouldn't be picked because he is Kris' son. That's literally all I was saying...
-
Sergachev just won a Cup, has a relationship with Yzerman, knows the Wings are an up and coming team with a rich history, especially with Russian players, Tampa can't afford to offer close to the money the Wings are... But yeah, there's no way Sergachev would ever consider signing it... Offer sheets are almost always signed, even if it's just a way to get their team to match. The question is, would Brisebois match? We already established that by how much better Sergachev is than a 1st round pick, which was your point of contention to begin with... We're a rebuilding team. I'd rather see what Lindstrom can do, over giving huge money and assets for Cernak. In a trade, yes. Offersheet, no. If you're going to overpay in an offersheet and piss off another GM, make it worth it. Cernak wouldn't be worth that. You don't mind overpaying your top players by a mil or two. It's when you overpay your depth players, you get in trouble. Again, in a trade, sure. Not overpaying on an offersheet.
-
It's pretty much exactly the same actually... Bertuzzi was ranked 207th amongst North American skaters, and people flipped out because we drafted him 58th overall "just because he's Todd's nephew", not knowing a damn thing about Tyler as a hockey player. I'm not advocating drafting Draper in the 2nd round. Like I said, I wouldn't mind using a late round pick on him, and if they do, maybe just assume they know what they're doing, rather than "just because he's Kris' son"...
-
And you know the same people b***ing that we took Todd's nephew, would be doing the same if we took Kris' son, despite knowing absolutely nothing about the player...
-
I'd take 22 year old Sergachev now, over the slim chance at number one overall next year. Again, you can't have it both ways dumbass. It can't be way too much for us to give up, but no way Brisebois doesn't match... 1. The last thing this team needs is another right-handed defenseman. 2. If you're offer sheeting a player, it should be a needle mover. Cernak isn't that. 3. Just under $4.5M, plus a 2nd round pick is an over payment. 4. We could get more value out of the 2nd round pick via trade, or the cap space via free agency.
-
Yeah, I was really being a "coward" by calling you out on your dumb offersheet and not quoting you directly... Instead I was talking behind your back to marc... Unfortunately, you must have heard me... Oops... LOL my offersheet sucks but yet we shouldn't risk losing our 1st round pick for Sergachev?... You can't have it both ways "darling"...
-
I'd like to see Yzerman acquire Fleury, but I think I'd want more than a 2021 2nd round pick for two years at $7M per. Make it a 2020 1st (29th overall), and I'd do it.
-
I'd do this in a heartbeat, but like my previous offersheet, it's probably not enough. I don't disagree. I'd consider upping it to over $6M (adding a 2nd round pick) if that would get it done... There's supposedly at least a couple defensemen projected to go in the top 3 next year, better than Drysdale. I'd still take the sure thing, over a chance we get one of those picks, and chance that the pick turns out as good or better than Sergachev 5 years later...
-
I agree. Which makes the assertion that we are in no position to give up a 1st round pick for Sergachev all the more foolish. It would be a great move by Yzerman, if he could pull off the offersheet, and it would be a bad move by Bisebois, if he couldn't match. A top 2-3 defensman, like Sergachev is the type of player you want to offersheet. Not a bottom pair defenseman, like Cernak...
-
I completely disagree. Sergachev is performing like a top three pick, and just turned 22 years old. As we know all too well, a top three pick is far from guaranteed, even if we are the worst team in the league again next season (which I don't think we will be). And even if you luck out and get a top three pick, there's no guarantee that player will be as good or better than Sergachev. Sergachev is just entering his prime, and would be right around the same age as the rest of our core. He would be a massive upgrade on our back end, and make us suck much less next season, and for the next 10+ seasons. The 1st round pick would be next year, not this year, and we have no idea where that pick would be in 2021. Tampa might match, but they might not be able to, with their current cap crunch. Sergachev >>> potential top 5 pick in a relatively weak draft...
-
Offer sheet: Mikhail Sergachev - TBL - $5.4M AAV x 6 years - max for 1st & 3rd round pick compensation. Sergachev - Hronek Nemeth - Seider DeKeyser - Staal / Cholowski / Bowey / Lindstrom
-
Sanderson is probably the prospect I know the least about in the top 10, but if Yzerman sees him as best player available, I'd be okay with the pick. There's no one that I'd really be pissed about taking in the "top 10", just some (Stutzle / Raymond) that I'd prefer over others, and some (Askarov) I'd be a little more concerned about than others...

Wouldn't mind using one of our late round picks on Draper's kid, Kienan.
